Air Asia Cancelling Day Flights KUL to Syd

Pretty disappointed that AirAsia have recently rescheduled 2 day flights (Depart KUL approx 9 am) Kul - Syd. to night flights. Either I was very unlucky with my dates, or they are cancelling day flights that are not well booked and pushing people onto night flights. They are quickly losing my loyalty.

OK OP…… Is there a real question or just having a rant?

or they are cancelling day flights that are not well booked and pushing people onto night flights.

Had then even been day flights and night flights?

or is it more they moved from day flights to night flights.

I would hardly call 1.75 lines of text a rant.

        6 lines on mobile.

        • hehe! Dates were 3 May & 7 August. Moved to previous nights!

post has no meaning other than to rant about something. Size has nothing to do with it.

At least some other members of this FORUM had some very constructive comments. Your input not appreciated.

@Peck: So like your post then. I asked you a question to clear up what you wanted answering, as you had no real question in the post. The fact you just want people to whine with you, proves my point.

        • Do you understand the term 'a heads up'. Forums don't necessarily have to include a question. see https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/363351#comment-5679703 for an example of how to be constructive.

        • @Peck: Do you understand what it means to fly "Air Asia"? They do these flight changes all the time and as Eeples advised in another post, they offering the following when they change flights around

          A choice of…

          Suck it up
Credit to be used within 90 days
          Full refund
          Change date within 3 months.

This heads up is like saying the sky is blue. Book a cheap airline like air asia so far in advance, this is what you run the risk of. Been endless posts about it before.

These guys chop and change flight schedules all the time, as soon as demand changes they change. They don't run routes very long at a lost or low usage.

Oh but thats for the heads up, one for you. They don't serve free food or drinks!

Yes, I've always taken the night flights. Works out well for me. I sleep though most of the flight. Arrive about 3-4 am which is about the time I wake up here. Grab a brekkie from the food court while waiting for the connecting flight.

    • Yer, I usually do that. (Penang the most recent time).

But in April Im doing the day flight, a night in KL, and fly out next morning. I must be getting old.

I like night flights because I won't need entertainment devices. I just enjoy the movie in my head, starring me, in bizarre situations. :)

        • I think I just sleep better in a bed.

Another disadvantage of a day flight is the connection will often get you in after 10pm…. and add 3hrs time difference it’s 1am.

So, yer, think I’ll stick to layovers for a bit…

Cheapo hotels around KL Sentral or Chinatown.
(Although KL has some of the cheapest 4/5 star hotels in the world).

  • Hey.

    What dates roughly?

Did they give you a choice of…

    1. Suck it up
    2. Credit to be used within 90 days
    3. Full refund
    4. Change date within 3 months?
    • Yes, but it doesn't help when you buy 12 months in advance at a SALE price & need to have another booking to get back home.

What's the big deal? Just curious

    • They moved me from a day flight where I had overnight hotel booking in Kul to a night flight the night that I was staying in Kul. If I don't accept that option then I can refund the sale fare that I achieved and pay double for another date. I am just giving people a 'heads up'. They are not doing it for all dates as I see some day flights still available, but 2 cancellations in a short period of time is annoying. If its not a 'big deal' for you then please move on!

      • If your flying twelve hours later, then cancel your hotel. They saved you money really. Holiday still has same amount of daylight time really.

      • Take the option to move your booking a day earlier, so you still use your hotel booking.

        • They have me flying on the night that I was going to stay. Anyway, all good. I didn't mean this to get so bogged down.

        • @Peck: Yes I'm aware, If you can't cancel your hotel booking for a refund, then take up the option to move your flight to the day BEFORE, so you will be flying the night before. Then arrive in the morning, get the day there and then you can stay in the hotel still.

    lots of flights are cancelled.
thank christ they don't post about it.

    • Sorry if I have wasted people's time, but I felt there may be a pattern.

      • maybe it is a pattern.
        i like patterns.

  • How did you find out by the way…did they email you? I’ve got sone Air Asia tix for later in the year and worried they’ll do something similar

    • yes they email you.

AirAsia strategy. Looks like they've gone from 7 days/week to 4 days/week of day flights since Feb. History can be seen on https://planefinder.net/data/flight/D7220
Can't begrudge them if the passengers just aren't there.
That's what you get with AirAsia though, and I guess you have to factor that in when buying. Had it twice myself previously, but on intra-Asia flights, not long haul.

Brighter side is - Jetstar treats passengers with less aplomb + more contempt

  • Red Eyes and Tears served by these Fly-by-night operators.

    Thanks for the heads up.

It can be a pain for those who had planned to have connecting flights or other commitments that had tight time frames upon arrival.

That being said agreed it's not the end of the world and air asia seem fairly reasonable in the past to move flights around when this sort of thing has happened.

From what I'm hearing it's a nation wide thing they're cutting down a few morning departure flights to late night only flights on the east coast as well.
