  • Ooo I do like Xiaomi headphones. These must be new. Any reviews on audiophile websites?

EDIT: Or any responses from this deal - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/336086

    • I've known about them for about 6 months or more. But haven't seen any deals for them. And I was unwilling to take the plunge, because too many ANC earphones have poor to non-existent ANC.

    • It's not too bad for a wired NC but obviously not comparable to the QC20's or the Sony MDR-NC750s but slightly better than the Audio Technica ANC33. Sound quality wise, its probably the worst of the above but it's still better than most OEM ones that come with the phones or even the basic Xiaomi Pistons. For this price, I'd recommend it if you have a phone that supports Audio over USB-C.

      • ANC33 is not very good. So if it's only slightly better, eh.

        • Have sworn by the ANC33 for years, what would you recommend?

        • @voltagex: well this is about half the price of a new AT ANC33 so it's not bad considering the price. Just don't expect to get a cheap QC20 for 1/5 the cost. It's not bad future proof if more models are removing the headphone jacks. Just make sure you have a model that supports audio over USB-c for it to work.

        • @bchliu: I don't think any good ANC exists in this price range. I was hoping based on reputation that Xiaomi would do something incredible at a good price because it seems that's what they're good at.

It used to be just Bose, who doesn't like discounting their products but at least we now have Sony who can match them and will eventually have big discounts. Still, Xiaomi makes good products at cheap prices so I was really optimistic that they could pull off ANC 80% as good at Bose for 20% of the price.

        • @lostn: Yeah.. I'm not crash hot about Sony though - seems to be hit and miss. I've been using the MDR-NC750 with my old Z5 Compact phone and the sound quality on it is so far ahead of the others in definition with some good NC too. However, it only works on their Xperia Phones. I've got their totally wireless WF-1000X and what a disappointment that was.
In some ways, if you save up on the bits and pieces on these budget competitors, you'd end up with enough money to just get the Bose QC20/25. The only thing against the QC20s is future proofing if phones are gradually removing the Headphone jack. Though, you can probably use converter for that purpose I suppose.

        • @bchliu:

I had a QC20 but it got stolen, and I'm not paying the $300+ to replace it. They have the best ANC (though not the best audio quality), but I can't justify the $300 purchase a second time. I don't feel they were even worth $300 the first time, but if you wanted them, you didn't have an option because no one else had a product of its level.

I have indeed spent a lot on bits and pieces. I have some Huaweis, Audio Technicas and Samsungs. You're probably right that I could have bought another QC20. But I was willing to take a chance in case I could get acceptable ANC for a fraction of the cost. I also ended up buying a WI-1000X but it's still not as good as the QC20 (the WH-1000XM2 though is better than the QC20 for ANC).

I'm willing to accept compromises if the value for money is better. Xiaomi were poised to be that brand who could do it. Seems I have to wait a bit longer.

        • @lostn: The two choices I think you have for the mid-range price is probably:
Sony MDR-EX750: Basically the "normal" version of what I have (MDR-NC750) where you don't need the Xperia Phone. If it is anything as good as the NC750, this will really give you at least 80& of the QC20 for significantly less that you asked for.
          -or-
Huawei AM180/185: I missed the Telstra deal that were throwing them out for like $23. These are meant to be high up there too with its own battery.

Both of these are @$100 range..

Huawei AM180/185: I missed the Telstra deal that were throwing them out for like $23.

I have that one. I bought two of them. They are hopeless. ANC is barely noticeable. And the battery life is very short. When you charge them, the charge indicator light never tells you when it's fully charged either.

        • @lostn: hmm.. interesting.. another one to cross off the list then. But for $23.. no loss I suppose.

  • +1

I still don't understand why you would want to use up the charging port if don't have to…

    • +5

u need power for the "Active Noise Cancelling", 3.5mm jack won't give u those there4 u need to use the charging port for this.

      • Ah, no battery pack.

It does mean I can't use it in any of my DAPs, unless there's a type C female to 3.5mm male adapter. I don't want to use an adapter anyway.

        • -2

ONLY compatible with Xiaomi Mi6, Xiaomi MIX, Xiaomi Note 2, Xiaomi Mi5s, Xiaomi Mi5s Plus, Xiaomi Mi5,
if u ar using anything else like other brand phones or music player it won't work.

        • +1

@samelight: I don't take that as an exhaustive list. Many things that say "only compatible with" will still work on other devices. For example QC20i is for iPhones, but they do work on Android. Just two of the buttons won't work.

I want to hear testimony from people who actually tried it out. That I would trust more than Xiaomi's listing.

EDIT: Another person already confirmed it worked on S8.

        • @lostn:
ya true, but once again use it at ur own risk.

        • @samelight: That's not true. I have used mine in other devices and it does work - as long as it supports audio over USB-C. Only thing is if the phone provider has implemented it properly. I can get full music out of my Note 8 with it, but it does not recognise it for normal calls (but works on VOIP calls).

        • @bchliu:

not true about what ? avseqcfc said

And also , doesn't work on Motorola phone. ( I actually bought it for moto force ) I now have a pixel, works with both pixel 1st gen and 2nd gen. Doesn't work with OnePlus 5.

did u try those ? not true? or u mean those phones provider have not implemented it properly??

        • @samelight:
          You said:

if u ar using anything else like other brand phones or music player it won't work

Not true because it worked in every other USB-C phone (and laptop) I have. I am not sure about the Moto or OnePlus. But its working fine out of mine. Your statement was "Every other phone other than Xiaomi won't work". I've also tried it from 5 different media player software.

        • -2

          @bchliu:

ok! it may not work with other brand phones or music player, u happy now?
really dude?! i just want to warn the others and why u so picky?

        • +3

@samelight: Actually I wouldn't have if you didn't carry on like a pork chop to Clear or made some absolute statements. But I chimed in only to state I've tested it out on quite a few working devices and compared it to my other headphones as well.

  • I must admit.. I bought the xiaomi piston fresh earphones for $3 and at first found them a little uncomfortable. Or maybe at first I wasn't used to them.
I'm now very impressed with them for such cheap earphones.
I really wonder if these are worth 20x more. Anyone have these?

    • I don't have them but xiaomi products seem good for the money so I imagine at the very least you get what you pay for.

    • They won't sound 20x better. You are paying for ANC.

If you found the pistons uncomfortable, did you try different sized ear tips? They should come in 4 sizes. For me medium is the only size that's comfortable, but that happens to be the one inserted by default.

      • Oh yes you're right. The ANC.
They're comfortably now. Don't remember where I put the extra tips

  • I've always wondered how good their ANC would be. But it's too pricey to try it, especially for a headphone addict who already has too many.

  • -6

    u should put a warning!

ONLY compatible with Xiaomi Mi6, Xiaomi MIX, Xiaomi Note 2, Xiaomi Mi5s, Xiaomi Mi5s Plus, Xiaomi Mi5,
if u ar using samsung then srry wont work.

    • +2

      Worked perfectly on my s8

    • +3

I've got a Samsung note 8 and they work fine. The controls don't work but that ANC is excellent. My girlfried has also used them in her hp laptop and they work well on that too. For 50 bucks (what I paid) it's a great price. Hopefully they bring out an even better version soon with working mic and controls.

      • Can you compare it to any other ANC you have tried?

        • I haven't tried any other active noise cancelling ear buds only passive. But they do work. You switch it on and the difference is pretty noticeable.

      • -2

use it at your own risk, thats what xiaomi said.
someone did fk up his earphone with s8 and if u can read chinese u can visit this http://bbs.xiaomi.cn/t-13602913

      • Does yours work for phone calls? Mine doesnt out of my Note 8. Works for everything else though.

        • Nah no phone calls just music

    • +1

ONLY compatible with Xiaomi Mi6, Xiaomi MIX, Xiaomi Note 2, Xiaomi Mi5s, Xiaomi Mi5s Plus, Xiaomi Mi5,

That's not said anywhere on the product page. It will support other phones, but the line controls will not work with those not listed.

      • -4

what u mean not said anywhere ?

        Compatibility
All support: Xiaomi Mi6, Xiaomi MIX, Xiaomi Note 2, Xiaomi Mi5s, Xiaomi Mi5s Plus, Xiaomi Mi5
Not support line control: Xiaomi 4c, Xiaomi 4s
Not Compatible: Xiaomi 5c, Xiaomi Redmi Pro
Other Type-C Phones: Part of them support ANC, not support line control, part not compatible

u didn't c this ? and if u can read chinese go to their website, it clearly stated those,
and yes , it may works with those not listed, but if the earphone burned like this one http://bbs.xiaomi.cn/t-13602913 , ar u going to honest the warranty Mr.Associated ?

edit: i dont know why so many ppl dislike my warning, u can't change the fact that it does have problems with phones other then what the listed, and many cases end up burned.
And if Mr.Associated cannot guarantee the warranty for this kind of cases, then my warning is appropriate.

        • +1

You flat out said that only the listed Xiaomi phones are supported, but what you just quoted contradicts what you said. As mentioned in the quote, other Type-C phones will work except for the line control and ANC may or may not work. Big difference between not compatible and partially compatible.

Other people in this post have said what they've tested to be working and not working. For example the S8 is working with ANC.

        • -2

          @Clear:

Other Type-C Phones: Part of them support ANC, not support line control, part not compatible

          "part not compatible"!!
and once again, can u confirm about the warranty part? coz from what i heard xiaomi refuse to do that, and said "use it at your own risk"…
i dont want to argue anything, just point out the fact that this do happen "use it at your own risk".

        • +1

I can confirm this is working on:

Galaxy Note 8 (though calls arent routed for some weird reason)
          Galaxy S8 (Same call problem)
          Xiaomi Mi6 (works fine)
          Lenovo ZUK Z2 (works fine)
          Lumia 950XL (works fine)
GPD Pocket (Windows 10 - Working fine)

Other than Samsung having a weird problem with Audio over USB-C around the calls (music and media is fine), it all seems to be working.

        • @samelight:

not support line control, part not compatible

This means that the line control part is not compatible. It does not mean the entire earphones as a whole are incompatible as you said. Infact someone said below that the line control is working on their Pixel.

and once again, can u confirm about the warranty part? coz from what i heard xiaomi refuse to do that, and said "use it at your own risk"…

Warranty for this is not with Xiaomi. Geekbuying have their warranty policy here

        • -4

          @Clear:
look ! i don't really care whats ur interpretation of what xiaomi said as long as u could confirm that u ar Associated with Geekbuying, and u will give warranty for this kind of situations, if u can do that then i got no further comments.
if not then u should be quiet.

        • +5

@samelight: As it says next to my username… I'm associated, but not a Store Rep meaning I'm not an actual employee. I have linked their warranty policy.

if not then u should be quiet.

          Your attitude is disgusting.

        • @samelight: lol. clear is a rep.. :)

        • -1

          @bchliu:
really, but he just told me

I'm associated, but not a Store Rep.

c ! now u making as absolute statements, and plz carry on like a pork chop to Clear.

        • -2

          @Clear:
so u cann't comfirm the warranty, ok i got it.

        • @samelight:

c ! now u making as absolute statements, and plz carry on like a pork chop to Clear.

Please refer to the wiki. There are different types of reps.

so u cann't comfirm the warranty, ok i got it.

I can confirm that these headphones have a warranty inline with GeekBuying's policy. That covers what will happen if they're DOA, faulty etc.

        • -1

          @Clear:

Please refer to the wiki. There are different types of reps.

so ? u ar either a rep or not a rep, doesn't matter what wiki said.

I can confirm that these headphones have a warranty inline with GeekBuying's policy. That covers what will happen if they're DOA, faulty etc.

lol i said i got it!
u cannot confirm that if used with other brand phones and burned it still can claim the warranty!
warranty covers DOA, faulty etc but those ar "faulty for non-artificial reasons", use it with other phone and burned is not a "faulty for non-artificial reason", thats why u keep dodging.

and btw if u cannot speak on the behalf of the store why u still talking ?
if u can, then why dont u just say it! "if it burned i will replace or refund!" just say it out !
u keep talking and talking but all just bs.

          @Clear:

OzBargain's guidelines don't matter to what he replied me, what make u think u can put them together and throw it on me ?

        • I'm not familiar with Xiaomi's phone range, but do the ones "not compatible" even have a type C port?

Samelight, please just stop. You've made your point. We get it. Move on.

        • @lostn:
yes Xiaomi Redmi Pro and Xiaomi 5c they both have type c.

  • I had these, a few impressions:
The smallest ear bud size felt like it was ripping my ear hole a new one. I usually pick the middle size tip.
That being said, the air tight fit helps with the noise cancelling, so pretty good on that front.

However my pair lasted about 3 weeks before a wire broke or something like that in the left hand speaker making them pretty useless unless you're half deaf.
They were only used at work for ~1hr per day

edit: they worked on my s8 and my ubc-c port on the pc

    • Can you comment more on the NC? Was it impressive? Have you tried Bose QC20/30 or WI-1000X?

      • -1

These are ear buds remember. You're going to need a decent seal. I have them and I reckon they are pretty good for noise cancelling. Especially for the money.

        • +1

          These are ear buds remember.

So are the ones I mentioned. Hence the comparison.

The QC20 has an awful seal. With ANC turned off, it offers no noise blocking at all compared to when you take them off. But with ANC on, suddenly it's much more silent. Because Bose has leading class ANC.

      • No sorry, I got a pair of QC35ii after these. Being ear buds the xiaomi worked better than the QC35 to silence noise/plug the ear. The NC was pretty impressive.

      • Does not compare to the QC20 by a LONG shot. Got them both and QC20 still stands as the top buds for me.

        • I'll pass then.

Someone stole my QC20, otherwise I'd still be using them. I don't want to buy another pair because they're expensive. Been looking for a more cost effective substitute that's still good but much cheaper.

  • +2

I have a pair. Noise cancelling is non existent. Sound quality and build is good.

    • +3

So far, based on testimony we have ANC being: very good, alright, and non-existent.

      • Well. The testimonies can only be of value of they can be compared to other brands and models right (experience)? I compared it to a few, but also own QC35, WF-1000x, Samsung Iconx etc. Spend about 8-10 hours a working day on them so do have a legitimate reason to hoard.

  • +2

And also , doesn't work on Motorola phone. ( I actually bought it for moto force ) I now have a pixel, works with both pixel 1st gen and 2nd gen. Doesn't work with OnePlus 5.

    • With regards to the Pixel 1st gen, do the controls work as well as the ANC?
I was looking at a pair last night and decided not to get them as there were so many mixed results across phones.

      • controls works on play music. doesnt work on spootify. the problem is you wont know its snoise cancelling headphones at all because there is no difference when its switched on or switched off. and sometimes the sound comes from the speakers not headphones until you restart the phone. same with pixel 2, i have a pixel xl 1st gen, my wife has a pixel 2. but as i said, build quality is good and sound quality is good, its just that noise cancellation doesnt make any difference.

        • Thanks,
Sounds like I might just stick with the earphones I have now if the ANC isn't a guarantee on the Pixel

        • @memphisraynz: if you live close by NSW 2194 campsie , you can come and try mine and order one if you like. it could be just me, looks like others are enjoying it.

        • @avseqcfc:
Thanks for the offer, I live up in Bris.

  • +1

I have a pair and the noise cancelling is great, also the controls work on my Pixel.

  • I thoroughly enjoy using my.Xiaomi.ANC headphone. It complements my Mi5. I rate this a 7.5 against my Sony WH1000xm2B which I consider being the market leader in ANC technology.

The biggest advantage aside from the.good ANC is the ease of packing and unpacking from your front pockets. I bring both in my travels.

  • Is it compatible with Mi Max 2?

    • I would think so considering it has the appropriate port.

  • can anyone recommend a good bluetooth pair of eat buds?
