Did you read the deal conditions that were posted because this question was clearly answered.

  • Just a heads-up for those who haven't been to Europe since June last year……as of the 15th of June 2017, it is now possible to roam in any EU state and use data and call allowances as if you were at home (Home being the EU country where the sim originated from).

For example, when I was in Spain and Portugal late last year, I ordered a sim from the UK telco GiffGaff.co.uk (Free sim, and free shipping to Oz). I registered the sim (paid with PayPal) the day I left Oz, and when I arrived in Spain I was good to go. The only thing I needed to do was provide a UK address during signup. I selected a random hotel.

Indeed, you can order a sim from any EU country and do the same. Likewise, you could just pick up a SIM when you arrive in your first EU state, and it will work as you move about, you don't need a card that specifically has "ROAMING" plastered across the front of it!

As for this offering, it looks ok, but most people will prefer a voice and data sim they can use in their phone.

    • That's not exactly true - the advice is broadly good, but it's important to be aware that:

      a) While you can roam on most SIMs, the roaming is not allowed to be the primary use in most cases, and the provider can suspend the account or take other steps if it becomes clear that it is mostly being used to roam. In the end, this means that the first month of the account is safe to use for roaming, but once you reach your next billing period, you might run into trouble, depending on the provider. I'm not sure about the situation for PAYG accounts.

      b) Some providers get around the same-rates-as-home rules by offering "unlimited domestic calls/sms/data" packages. This then means they can charge higher rates for non-domestic usage, because the value of the domestic transactions is not set.

      • "unlimited domestic calls/sms/data"

Good point, that is true…..although, from my understanding, this represents a very small percentage of plans, and it must be declared.

        • Hi there

thanks for the info and what your saying is in fact true!

EE is one of the best carriers in the Uk and reviews about their EU roaming changes have been quite good!

We tend to stick to larger teleco carriers for the reliability and service but its good to see you found your way around Europe with the Giff Gaff SIM

          How did it go?

        • @So Easy Travel:

All good, GiffGaff is an O2 reseller…..so I was just roaming on their partner networks. I'll try using the same sim later this year when I'm back there…..hopefully they don't care too much I never go to the UK!

Three UK seems to provide best value.

      https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Three-UK-Pay-As-You-Go-SIM-20-Cr…

      $40.5 AUD for 12GB 300 min 3000 text across 42 countries.

      • Wow…..that is good value!

      • Fine print - only 9gb of the 12gb can be used outside of the UK…

        Other options include the
croatia bonbon sim card which is 6.5gb to use throughout europe —> 11euro
spain vodafone 20gb to use throughout europe —> 30euro

The above two options can only be topped up with either a croatian or spanish or english credit card respectively. PayPal may be an option

      • 3 provides good value but their reception in the UK is lacking.

        • True but perfectly fine if you are just traveling to major touristy places which is what a lot of people buying these cards from Australia are doing.

        • @sylon:

Maybe it's bias from the way I travel, but I tend to go off the beaten path, going rural, hiking etc so I do prefer using the "Telstra" of the nation.

Yeah 3 is a good option for travellers, but I see the value premium in an EE SIM.

      • Hi sylon !

The three SIM cards do offer great value which is why we also sell them !

We occasionally offer the three SIM card with 12gb data for the ozb community so keep your eyes peeled!

However, keep in mind that the EE SIM is has 4G roaming in Europe as well.

  • Hi So Easy Travel,I've used your THREE sim in Italy,Spain,Israel and Singapore and it was GREAT…! Does this one now include Russia ? if not any chance of getting one that does include Russia too for Data or both Data and Calls ?..Many Thanks and Regards

  • I recently did a lot of research and bought a similar EE card from SimCorner. Their includes both 5GB data with roaming and tethering, plus some talk minutes and SMS. It's a bit more expensive, but at the time SoEasy wasn't offering EE's cards at all. EE is much better than Three for roaming and tethering in the EU.
