The previous (Wii U) version of these controllers have proven popular due to the high quality D-Pad. The manufacturer, HORI has a reputation for producing quality 3rd party controllers.
This particular controller features:
- Directional pad
- Four face buttons (A, B, X, Y)
- Two shoulder buttons (L, R)
- Start and select buttons
- Two extra buttons on the front next to the start button (ZL and ZR)
The controller connects via regular USB (USB A).
The only game that officially supports the controller is Pokkén Tournament DX, however in the previous deal TheDukeOfNukem reported success using the Wii U version of the controller with the following games on the Nintendo Switch:
- Mario Kart 8. Works perfect.
- Mr. Shifty. Works perfect.
- Kamiko. Works perfect.
- Shovel Knight. Works perfect.
- Blaster Master: Zero. Works perfect.
- Puyo Puyo Tetris. Works perfect.
- Mighty Gunvolt Burst. Works perfect.
- Over Top. Works perfect.
- King of Fighters '98. Works perfect.
- Rudymical. Works perfect.
- Metal Slug 3. Works perfect.
So far I've tested the controller in Linux and it worked fine. I've also read of people successfully using the controller with Retropie on a Raspberry Pi, which is great because the controller is a good SNES controller shape.
If you live in Sydney, QLD or WA you might have luck finding the white or yellow Wii U version of the controller for only $9 (local pickup only)
No Analogue? That's not great for many games.
