recently purchased a Redmi 5 Plus (4GB/64GB version) from LightInTheBox LITB (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/357165) and I want to fastboot the official global ROM onto it (9.2.6.0).
The phone arrived with the vendor installing MIUI Global 9.2.3.0 (the phone itself is clearly China version and vendor has installed an unofficial/beta Global version or something as its not listed on the Xiaomi website).
I do get an option to do an OTA upgrade (in About Phone) except this has bricked phones for people who purchased from LITB (see comments here https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/357165).
When attempting to do the fastboot update to the correct ROM using MiFlash tool (http://en.miui.com/a-234.html), I keep getting a modem error. What am i doing wrong here? So frustrating…..
Please note that the bootloader is locked. Do I need to request an unlock? Didn't think I needed to.

PLEASE HELP!!!
I don't have much input on the matter, but that's shady as heck, I'm definitely not buying phones from them. Only reason why I can think of that they would install their own rom is to load adware into it.
I had something like that happen (but at least it didn't allow me to do OTA update) to my letv pro 1. Over the few weeks i started using it, it would randomly install random apps onto my phone. Eventually I was able to source the official rom and got rid of it.
