I always wondered if companies threw out their 2-year-old/older equipment (i.e. racks, servers, storage arrays, switches, routers etc) and if these were obtainable by enthusiasts for free/cheap? Especially for clients having equipment at co-lo data centres, I would imagine they would be getting rid of gear when doing upgrades.
I'm sure some companies would be selling these to companies that specialise in re-selling used equipment, but maybe some don't?
I have a rack without doors/sides at homes and would love to get a quality rack with doors for a reasonable price.
I'm also looking for a VM server, and a raid array would be nice.
Anyone know of anything particularly good? Scrimshaw?
a lot of it goes to companies that deal in used IT specifically. The best and highest value stuff gets sold domestically, have a look at eBay, the cheaper stuff goes offshore in bulk
