Sell Old Computers / Servers

Hi All

I have some old servers (around 10 yrs old), cisco network switches/routers, computers to sell. I think they might be too old to sell on ebay - not sure if anyone wants them.

apart from ebay/gumtree - how can i get rid of them and make the most money out of them? ie, recycling? is selling them individually the best option?

Thanks.

  • Bulk lot is the way to go if you want everything gone fast. Just make it cheap. Recently sold over 200 servers parts and servers in one go. You can also try and salvage the gold form items too old. You could get maybe $9 from a 4U server.

  • Should I sell parts individually? Ie. Pull all the HDDs out and the power supply out? Then sell only the remaining shell?

Also where should I take the servers for the gold?

    • OCAU forums is full of geeks looking to buy old hardware. You need to however, be a member of forums for 3 mths before you can access the trading section.

It's much better than gumtree because you're not dealing with complete time-wasters, but at the same time, you're dealing with people who know hardware and are less likely going to pay inflated sums for your stuff.

  • i generally ask around on fakebook or with friends sometimes people want to swap things for them.

i've got a couple of HP ML350-G5 servers sitting under a desk at home just waiting for the right person

  • +1

What sort of Cisco routers? They’re routinely put up on eBay.

A quick and easy way to dump stuff is on local buy swap sell groups on Facebook.

  • Can use something like Networkbrokers - however often they only want stuff that sells. Can be hard for them to accept a job lot.

  • strip all parts sell them separately and sell the skeletons to the scrap metal yards

  • When I was doing the CCNA a lot of guys liked to buy the hardware and use them for the labs.
