Fastway Couriers - My experience

We buy wine from a winery in Geelong. They are currently using Fastway as their courier service.

I received notice from Fastway that the wine was picked up from the winery on Friday and, after that, everytime I tried to check the status of delivery their site kept telling me there was an issue and they couldn't give me an update. As I hadn't received it by Wednesday, I decided to raise a case just to find out what was happening. I was just a little concerned about storage of my wine and Geelong is not that far away. I received an email saying they would deliver it today.

We were sitting at home at 5:20 pm and I heard someone drop something in our letter box, I headed off to see what it was and found it was the "we missed you" letter from the delivery guy and no delivery guy in sight. Given it was a relatively short time from me hearing the letterbox to getting to it, he must have dropped the note and run down the little alley way off our street. He made absolutely no attempt to ring the doorbell, which is right next to the letterbox, and he hadn't called out - even though our door was ajar so our kitties could sit out in the alcove. Not sure what this guy was playing at. The absolute corker is I can't even highlight this to Fastway because they won't accept any messages on this delivery because there is already an open case, also the emails they sent about the case are "No Reply". I can now see the status of the delivery and it say "could not deliver" at basically the time I heard the letterbox so it had to be him.

This group does sound a little mickey mouse to me.

So now we have to wait until after the guy has dropped the parcel off at the Parcel Connect agent to go pick up our wine.

This is certainly in the realms of "first world problems" but I really can't understand what the delivery guy was playing at. He was definitely at our house because I heard him drop off the "we missed you" message so I'm not sure why he made no attempt to deliver the wine. We double checked the doorbell and it is definitely working.

Anyone had similar issues and can give me a clue on why would do this? Could he have dropped off my wine at this place earlier and just dropped the note off on his way home?

  • Sorry to hear of your issue, Please see my review of fastway from a few years ago, Will never use them again.

    • Thanks for the posting. This was not my choice as I'm the recipient, but I will be highlighting to the winery our experience.

      • Yes i understand,

    • The reviews of Fastway on product review make for some woeful reading.

I don't purchase from firms if I know they use FastWay or even worse,Couriers Please.

Couriers Please, StarTrack, FastWay, Australia Post - All the same. Horrendous. I'd happily pay extra for DHL/UPS.

I recently had a collection booked by a buyer. He was using StarTrack and scheduled it for Tuesday. They did not turn up nor give any notification. On Wednesday to buyer called and their response was "please take it to the nearest office/store". In the end, they turned up Thursday afternoon. I kept the delivery guy waiting a little longer as I had "forgotten to print the barcode slip".

I believe half the problem is the use of contractors and the tight margins/high delivery or collection loads that are put upon them. I'm not sure why they can not just have employees. That said, this does not seem to solve Aus Post's problems.

Fastway Couriers have about the worst name in the business - avoid them at all costs.

  • Frankly my preference is to just get it delivered at the local post office and we go pick it up. We have organised an Australian post parcel delivery box for that purpose. They send us an SMS when it has arrived and there can be no doubt about delivery as the PO has the record it has gone to them. Apparently, the problem is there is a dispute between Aust Post and courier companies about getting courier parcels delivered there. For Fastway we had to go to a Newsagent a bit of a distance away and pick it up from them. They were lovely people, and they had another parcel I was expecting so, again, just an annoying first world problem.

I avoid using Fastway but I've noticed plenty of eBay sellers saying they use AusPost but sending it with Fastway instead.

My local Fastway Franchisee is useless, my packages always sit in his van for close to a week before he delivers it. He used to be good a few years ago, used to get packages delivered same day or next day the latest.

  • I got the we've missed you card this afternoon. I had to call them up to change from repeat delivery again to pick up item at parcel point. I waited 20 mins for the phone call queue to get me to #1 it kept repeating the same minutes left in the calling queue a lot of times. It's difficult calling Fastway to make it pick up when it's a eBay item I bought like I have to wait for seller to give me the tracking number then I have to immediately call Fastway so that I'd rather pick up. I missed that chance because I was at work and they attempted delivery now I need to wait for them to text me to pick up at parcel point address tomorrow..

I think there is an option to do that online with the order tracking. Might be worth looking at.

      • Okay thanks. It used to be easy before. I could contact the courier driver if I recall correctly a long time ago.

    • I live in Melb near Chadstone shopping centre. I got the text message to pick up. I have to pick it up from 2/62 salmon st port melbourne FML.. No problem oh well.

  • I've had 2 parcels with Fastway. Both have been positive for me.

  • Those mob are just bad. Very bad.

  • Last time I used them I was waiting all day for it. When I checked online it said delivered and had a picture of a signature, clearly wasn't me. I called to complain and they just gave me the number of the driver and told me to contact him. The lad came back 30 mins later and told me he dropped it over the neighbors fence by mistake and asked me if I could ask the neighbor for it when they were home.

Luckily my neighbors arn't dodgy and gave it back.

    These guys are proper knobs.

    • That is dodgy, I hope you raised this with Fastway, he was forging your signature.

  • I can't remember if it was Fastway or Courier Please but when I was tracking my package online, it has been showing undeliverable for a few days. I contacted them and was told they don't have an address to send to…
Surprisingly I've always had good experiences with AusPost.

    • How is that even possibl? they would get the address when they receive the package or they contact the sender to confirm.

  • ohh thanks for complaint

You’re welcome. Now people can make up their own mind if we are both being sarcastic.

  • Same experience in North East Melbourne. Had a few parcels, some delivered, others 'we missed you' when I have been home all day. No doorbell ring. They don't bother delivering. No issues with other delivery companies in my area.

  • Thanks for the replies people, I just couldn't get my head around why someone drops off a card rather than delivering the package. If they just sent an email I can understand, but they have to be actually there to put the card in the mailbox so why not just deliver the package? I have alerted the sender of the package. As I indicated, first world problem, just puzzling.

  • I'm currently still waiting on a parcel from fastway. It's been 2 weeks now. 2 attempted deliveries while we were at home. I thought it would be Auspost as I used shipster to get free shipping. As for the reason, they charge to have items redirected and are far away so collection is difficult. I suspect they do it to generate more work/revenue for themselves.

  • Called up Thursday morning, the call centre representative confirmed my parcel will come in the afternoon delivery cycle. Took time off work, parcel never came. Called up again Thursday evening, the representative was very rude and hung up on me. Called up again, the representative promised to arrange for an early morning delivery for me.

On Friday morning, the driver arrived late when I already left for work. The driver told me that my parcel will be delivered to a Blu Courier for redelivery on Saturday.

Waited at home for the whole day on Saturday for the delivery. Blu Courier driver never showed up. All call centres are closed. I can't even check with them what is going on.

Waited another whole day at home on Sunday, still no delivery as promised.

Called up on Monday morning, the call centre staff is useless, and is not able to provide any information regarding the whereabouts of the parcel. They cannot even confirm whether the parcel is coming today.

This is definitely the worse parcel delivering experience I have ever had so far.

    Fastway? No way!

  • Unfortunately Amazon Australia use them and the last two parcels I ordered ended up being signed for by someone in Melbourne when they were meant to come to SA. The guy I spoke to claimed they had no name on them but this shouldn't prevent then from being delivered.. I ended up getting my money back from Amazon. For as long as Amazon still use Fastway, I won't be shopping with them again.

  • Fastway very poor service. Can confirm they drop off the card instead of the parcel without attempting contact/ doorbell. Also the online tracking is somehow manipulated by them. Eg check online and shows delivery attempted but no card in mailbox. Next day find delivery card in mailbox. Basically online tracking status updated basis what they decided to do in advance.
