Inexpensive Network Switch

I had Cat5 cable run from lounge to offie back in the day
Works better than wifi of course
Have a number of devices in office and lounge and need multiple ports
Have outgrown the 4 on the router and was using a WRT54G in the lounge but wifi signal not needed and it is adding a layer of complication to the network
To make my life easier can anyone recommend a couple of network switches that are decent but inexpensive?
4 port minimum and I guess I would pay a bit more for gigabit although not likely to matter
Thank you :)

  • The TP-Link 8 port Gb switch I bought many years ago is still running well. Check staticice for the best prices for the 5 and 8 port models.

  • Do you need Gigabit LAN? I had the same problem. I did have an old Wireless G router lying around, I turned the wifi off and used it as a switch daisy-chained to my other router. Works quite well.

  • Can you define what “inexpensive” means to you ?

To some people on this site it means under $50

I’d look at the current ebay sale and grab one 20% off

  • TP-Link 8 port Gb is about $35 with 20% off, fast shipping and very reliable.

  • To echo others, you should be able to grab a TP-Link 8-port Gigabit (TL-SG1008D) for about 25-30 bucks.

  • +1

$30 for 8 port gb switch

    or $24 for a 5 port version.

I have both, never had an issue, cheap and easy, no need to further config, it's still pretty dumb, all DNS settings will still be controlled by your router.

    • Sometimes simple is the best option.

      • Simple is exactly what I am going for!

  • Bought 2 x 5 port TP-link giga switches for <$47 delivered on fleabay
    Thanks guys
