Getting New Soles on Shoes - What Do You Pay?

I regularly get shoes re-soled at a little old-fashioned store in the suburbs. They used to charge $20 per pair of shoes, and now they charge $35. I didn't pick them up this last time, so I wasn't able to ask why the price went up. I'm wondering what other people pay to get a pair of shoes re-soled? (PS I'm in Melbourne)

  • It depends on the sole used, but I have paid up to $50 (for RMWilliams boots)

The shoes go in the bin

The first part of the sole to wear down, I put a screw in it.
Then the screw takes the wear & my sole lasts forever.

How often? May be you should look at shops fitting better quality soles.

  • A couple of dollars in Vietnam :-)

  • i like to add extra air into my nike air max 90's

  • Worn shoes go in bin and I buy another pair.

I have recently spent $8 on a pair of shoes so $35 to repair them just isn't worth it.

    • well to be fair this is the "Fashion" forum… i'm guessing there's people here with $300 plus italian shoes so to spend $35 might be a good deal

i get ya, i even have $3.50 kmart shoes that go in the bin after 6 months

I don't wear the $300 shoes every day. They're only for special occasions. Weddings, funerals and so on. They should hopefully last the rest of my life. I doubt they'll ever need to be resoled.

I also have a good pair of shoes that I wear to interviews but walk most of the way in cheap shoes changing them in the car before entering the interview. They should last a while.

  • I have extremely small feet so I don't fit into most "adult" shoes. I can't easily just buy new shoes. For example I am still wearing to work leather shoes I bought 10 years ago due to careful polishing and re-soling. It was a question about the price of new soles, thanks to those who answered with relevant information.
