Great deal, I just paid $129 for a 650W 80+Gold Modular PSU only the other day. Bummed I missed out on this but hopefully some other OZB'ers will take advantage of this.

    • Is yours one of these (CS650M) or the more expensive TX650M?

If yours is a TX650m then it's a more premium variant hence the price difference.

      • I bought an EVGA one not Corsair. The NEX650G.

        • Don't know about that family, but evga G2 PSUs are absolutely top notch.

        • No point comparing what you paid for the EVGA to a tier 3/4 Corsair offered under this deal.

        • @Oxxy: nex-g is based on fsp aurum design and it has horrid voltage regulation

        • @Droidyy: No it's not. It's the SuperNova G1. Considered a tier 1/2 PSU

        • @stumbows:

Tier 2 on the outdated TomsHW list.

          http://www.overclock.net/forum/31-power-supplies/1476935-why…

          Barely gets 80+G cert.

This PSU gets recommended to noobs all the time and this (and their choice to use HEC as an OEM for their lower end units) is why I resent EVGA's power supply products, bar G2/G3 and B2/B3.

Corsair Cs is not a good quality series

      • It's a little old admittedly but it's not the worst unit in the world.

        • Because All Corsair products are produced by other factory. The only good thing for Corsair is the top series quality control. For Corsair CS it is better to buy other cheaper brand. It's my personal suggestion.

        • @RichardF89: all OEMs do this bar SeaSonic, FSP, and Super Flower.

There is no reason to avoid a cheaper brand because it is a rebranded unit when this is a common practice. For their newer designs it's actually built by Corsair engineers and then produced elsewhere.

  • Could you please link the Tom's Hardware PSU Tier List?

  • Hmm my Corsair 850W psu is causing my Asus motherboard to shut down due to Anti Surge issues, Would this 650W be enough to power a 1080 with 3 ssd and one 7200rmp hdd with a 4th gen I5 ? or should I look at a 750w or 850w?

    • +1

      Yes is enough

    • +2

Yes, I run a 1070 + 7820X on 650W and it works fine without any issues.

    • +4

A decent 550w will be more than enough.

I run an overclocked i5 4670k, 1080, 2x SSDs, 2x HDDs, 6x fans (120mm + 140mm) + a water cooling pump and the system draws less than 350w when everything being stress tested. It's around 300w when gaming and 120w if just surfing the web/youtube/watching movies. This was using a watt meter to test at the wall using a TX750M.

I could have got away with a 550w myself, but I went for a TX750M because it has fully black cables, is basically silent at less than 60% load, comes with a 7 year warranty and is not that much extra $ over a CS series for higher regarded tier 1 PSU.

Personally I would go for the TX series for a little extra.

They use higher quality components and come with a 7 year warranty opposed to 3. They are also a newer product line than the CS series.

      Hmm, $120 vs $95

      • It's really not that much extra in the scheme of things to have something that is made from better quality parts and has more than double the warranty.

I should also add that the TX series are rated at 50 degrees for their efficiency and fan noise curves (more efficient than CS series) and have fully black cables whereas the CS series have multicoloured cables. TX series uses a higher quality fan bearings and run quieter.

The TX series are basically tier 1 PSUs at tier 3 pricing. Check out Jonny Guru PSU reviews on why the TX series really is worth the extra over the CS. The CS is still a great PSU for the money though.

$25 is very little to pay in the scheme of things. the TX is a lot better for not much more money.

        • Ok, I'm convinced,

went with the TX650M … MSY is $129 and they are usually cheap already, with the 20% off this came to $119 delivered from FUTU ….

I run my PC 9 hours per day, so the efficiency should pay for itself over a number of years, and I only upgrade motherboards not cases or power supplies so will keep receipt for the warranty on this one.

Great advice, the TXM is leagues ahead of the old CSM lineup.

    • Agreed, GW has done a great design for the TX revisions. Better cabling and much better noise and voltage regulation than this series.

At $95 this is still a steal tho.

Corsair AX1200i is never on sale and it makes me sad :(

    • 95+% of the population won't ever need to buy the AX1200i. Those that do can definitely afford to pay for it. Personally, I value efficiency and build quality so paid through the nose for and use a; SSR-750TR PSU.

      • Are there any Seasonics (or any others) that are digital like the Corsair AX1200i?

  • I have one of these running 2 x 1070's at 100% 24/7, no issues so far and very efficient when measured at the wall.

  • higher the draw shorter the life for lower specced units.

  • Def cheap, but this segment should be dropping as the gold supplies become more popular

I prefer the Hydro G supplies, last I bought was around this price.

Sometimes a PSU is worth getting for being quiet as well as efficient, all the good ones shut down the fan below a certain amount of current draw.

    • the government was looking at mandating the efficiency of power supplies (80 plus gold) allowed to be imported ands sold as a way to save energy and reduce green house gas, got dropped due to lobbying from industry. In Europe they are already mandating power supply efficiency just like the mandated standby power consumption of appliances.

  • Japanese capacitors <3

  • I'm looking to get a 650W Tier 1 PSU with a budget of ~$160. I'm looking at the EVGA Supernova 650 P2. Should I get this instead? Or perhaps TX650M?
