Help!!! Vaya mobile is scamming me $39, how Can I avoid this?

I bought a three-month Vaya plan from Groupon and have a few issue with them. The experience is bad for them. Here are all issues I had with them.

  • The charging is confusing, it is $24 plan, but not sure how they charge me.

  • Double charge. see screenshot above charge me $12.39 twice. I am afraid they may still charge me twice if I pay them $39
Charge me $15 additional fees in final bill

  • Their live chat is hard to connect, it pushes you back in the queue every time you text.

  • It is very hard to cancel.
There is no option you can cancel your account in your account setting. Keep asking for details, See the email I sent on 8th Jan 2018
  • It is hard to port number out
I thought port out is the best solution suggested here https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/164402
I tried to port out my number to Amaysim(amaysim is good) but not the success.
I even successfully create an account in Amaysim on 20th Jan 2018, but the number still stuck in Vaya.
  • They may keep charging you after canceling the account due to their “system error”
  • They are bought by Amaysim due to too much complaint

Could be too much to say it is a scam, but I am very angry about this. I think it is very hard to get away from them without paying this fee, So I post here asking for help and hope this can help other people too.

Here is the email I sent to them. And link back to this post. I will keep updating.

not sure how to add the image here. detail of screenshots see: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1FGMXBwOtQyTL1DUNgbqFxk6W…

OP What has come out of your bank account? That is the REAL question.

Looking at your screenshots,it appears they charged you $12.39 but you didn't have funds so it bounced and then they tried again and charged you a few days later, and you also have a $15 securepay dishonour fee, which is what you claim as "Charge me $15 additional fees in final bill", no it was as the payment bounced.

    • Thanks for your reply. That makes sense, I check my bank transaction history back to the time. It is actually been charged only once, not sure why it shows 2 in my billing history. So confusing.
Not sure what to do now, Do I need to pay $39?

Why couldn't you port your number? Your details from Vaya have to match the details given to another Telco. Check what you have been charged in your bank account.

If you cancel your number/account, you could potentially lose your number.

    • I port to Amaysim Pay as you go plan. It says port in progress before, so I did not double check until today I got another bill from them. And I checked today number still not working in Amaysim sim card. Vaya still holds the number.

      • have you called amaysim and asked whats the hold up?

  • What did the TIO say ?

If you had a look here, you have been charged an extra $15 because your payment was declined. Vaya may not be perfect (no telco is) and they certainly arent scamming you. Personally had no problems transferring two numbers to optus from vaya in the $18.75 optus deal, chat support were also reasonable. They probably are avoiding transferring the numbers considering you still owe them money. You could avoid this by being a reasonable customer and having the required amount of money in your account on the due date.

  • How can people not have money in their bank accounts for direct debits to bounce? It might sound harsh, but that’s something any reasonable adult should be able to take responsibility for.

  • This is an old post, but I had problems with Vaya with a Groupon deal. After I ported they said I owed them money and charged a dishonour fee of $30. I called them up to tell him I would pay what was outstanding to get them off my back but they were not getting the payment for the fee. I think their billing system is not clear intentionally. I will never use them again nor would I recommend any person use their service no matter how cheap it is. Vaya Dog of a service
