Need Your Expert Recommendation for Best Protein Supplement

I have been trying to loose weight by adopting diet on my life style and at the same time going to gym to tone up my body and put some stress on my muscles.
So far lost 3 kgs within the last 3 weeks. But as I am pretty newbie to this honestly I do not have much idea about which protein shake/powder I should take to build my muscle while going to the gym regularly.

I have been really confused by seeing so many options in the market especially when every store I go the sales person tend to sell different items. :(

I would appreciate if you could recommend me some top of the market protein supplement to develop lean muscle .

    Are you counting macronutrients daily?

In all likelihood you don't need protein supplementation.

The brand of protein powder will be largely irrelevant even if you did need it (provided there aren't extra calories in the form of carbohydrates in it which might be the case for certain brands)

Well done on the progress thus far!

My opinion, from someone who has had very high levels of fitness at the amateur level, including being strong from a body weight to squat / dead lift perspective, real food worked best for me. Had the best results and digestion just from eating real food. Meats & fish for proteins, include eggs daily because they are a nutrient dense bomb and the appropriate level of carbs from starchy veg (potato / sweet potato) and fruit.

If you're aiming for a large intake of protein I found minced beef to be best - as it is already minced it aids with digestion. I would make a bolognese type thing and put it on mashed potato or sweet potato. Big protein and carb hit for post workout.

Protein powder has its place but unless your at the elite level of what ever you're doing its best used for convenience… like post workout on the way to work sort of thing. Then I'd look for a raw whey protein isolate.

Great to hear about your progress so far and good luck with the continued journey.

Bulk nutrients is a great aussie brand that don't deal in adding propietary blends of junk in their products. They are fairly priced and ship quickly.

I would recommend WPC or WPI for simple protein without the added carbs.

If you do decide to buy with Bulk nutrient's don't forget to grab a random referral code off of here :)

Blood type diet, dont eat sugar or processed foods, and try and eat a similar meal of steamed or lightly pan-fried vegetables (green leafies, mushrooms, onion, carrots, seaweed, black seaweed like hijiki if you can get it) each day. Eat meat only 1-2 times a week, and notice if eating less meat and small portions is helping your energy level (after a week). Routine of a healthy diet will improve digestion which will improve everything else (energy, sleep, concentration, memory and focus). Reducing intake of animal fats will change your digestion.

Dont take protein and suppliments if youre eating healthy. youre wasting money/Ozbargain ethics. Vitality is more important than strength if youre just starting out, and rushing into bulking up and gaining muscle is not practical for health. set a good goal for gaining strength over 12-18 months, and review those goals monthly.

get tone and discipline first. Learn your best energy input/output from your diet and what makes you feel healthy.

This is what i did when i was 32 years old to lose weight over 6 months. I felt and looked younger and stronger and improved mentally (for study and concentration). I took advice from previous Ozbargain posts and the family doctor.

good work on the start to weight loss and routine

    eat some meat

    protein shake/powder

    is all artificial crap

  • Losing weight and gaining muscle are 2 different things. It always worries me when I hear phrases like "top of the market" or "best workout program" from people who probably couldn't squat the bar.
Anyways I get the marinated chicken pieces from Coles and cook a tray at a time, from there you can add in carbs and vegetables according to what you prefer.
As for protein powder just grab the cheapest, all your gains at the moment are probably gonna be neural anyway. Focus more on restricting sugar and calories and base your workouts around staying consistent.
