Anyone Used Gotogate?

I purchased flights to Japan with Japan Air in April. Used gotogate via skyscanner as it was the cheapest. I didn't realise at the time that they are some kind of purchasing agent.

I've since read a bunch of horrible reviews about customer service issues. These mainly concern changing details (like names - I'm all good there) but I'm freaking out a bit. I received a confirmation from gotogate and it seems all kosher but nothing from the airline. I tried calling up Japan Air just to confirm that were were on the flight but was on hold for over an hour before I had to walk away.

Will i have a seat on the flight I booked?

  Yeah they're fine, used them a few times for domestic. Just like all agents. Don't get anything wrong and you'll be sweet. Just need to keep an eye on credit card fees.

  so you can't just check in JAL website 'manage my booking' using the reservation number?

    Tried that and it didn't work - the flight number I've been given is JL772 and they ask for a 4 digit number (i tried 0772 and the message said to call the phone number)

      The flight number is not the same as the booking reservation number.

        Figured it out! I was checking on the domestic page not international. Eventually found it. I'm on the flights i booked. Phew

  I used Gotogate recently for Qantas flights. The next day I checked on the Qantas website and the flights were confirmed and I could allocate them against our QFF numbers. As battler says, can you check on the JAL website to confirm the flights were booked?

    Did you have to pay for seat selection? I'm thinking about booking flights to Japan but they want $32 for seat reservation. Is that for GoToGate to reserve the seat, or can I pick my seats separately with the airline when checking in?

  Had a terrible experience with them a couple of years ago. Had international flights booked to Paris (via KL) with Malaysian Airlines. GoToGate was the cheapest on SkyScanner. Malaysian Airlines then cancelled their KL to Paris legs.

  GoToGate assumed that we would be happy flying in to London, with no connection organised to Paris. We only found out by logging in to their portal a couple of weeks before departure. It took a few days of calling them (when their office was open) to get them to organise a flight from London to Paris.

  Based on this personal experience I wouldn't recommend them, but the chances of such instances happening again are pretty small.
