Damn it. I've been finding my scorpions the old fashioned way.

If you haven't listened to this yet, I found it very interesting; http://www.abc.net.au/radio/programs/conversations/ancient-h…

  • Got one 2 days ago @usd12. 99 by code: bilakosj199

    Hope it is still working

    • Code has expired.

  • Sorry mods! No naughtiness intended. I'll pass the info on to the OP and he might add it to this deal instead.

    • Do you have a cheaper price?

      • Nope. Sorry. A different UV torch with other capabilities.
(I'm in the naughty corner, so don't want further detention by the mods…)

        • You don’t look happy 😡

        • @Steptoe:
That's my normal look. I thought my portrait showed me beaming with joy… now I'm even unhappier…

        • @StingyBritches:
PM me the link. It probably has some tracking or affiliate link tagged on the end.

        • @Steptoe:
Already sent details to 5hogun, so to be polite will wait for his/her response first. If no response by the morning I'll flick you the details.

This is an excellent UV torch and certainly the best you will get for this money.

It can however be improved if you have the inclination, convoy lights are very modddable

I replaced the stock single mode driver with a 5 level 3 amc7135 driver. This allows you to run at lower levels than full

This benefits reliablity (The stock light is slightly overdriven, the led is rather delicate and can burn out if left on for a long time). Its also more useful for tasks like setting UV glue or checking money.

I also got some ZWB2 filter glass for the front window, this removes the remaining visible (purple) light (very little with the nichia chip) making the light perfect for photography.

Ever thought of a name change to TorchNerd?

    • You mean using one of these?

      Anything else i need?

      • Sorry for the late response.

That board provides too much power for the UV chip (2800 mA).

Google "Convoy new firmware" that will get you a nice driver with good firmware (and will certainly work with this torch). For this application pick the one with 7135x3 (so 1000mA max)

Installing the new driver is simply unscrew the retaining ring, unsolder 2 wires and reverse the process with the new driver.

New driver will come on in low, then half click to raise power. (You can also configure the modes to your preference)

        • OK thanks, but i'm pretty sure i've got the right replacement part.

The link i gave provides several options: 7135x3, 7135x4, 7135x6 and 7135x8, and the option i've selected is the 7135x3. Despite the 2800mAh remaining in the heading, it only applies for the 7135x8. Am i right as i've ordered a couple already…

        • Oh yep, your right(Late night + poor website design)

Yep looks like a standard 17mm driver with three modes and should work fine.

Thank OP - got one! Not sure why…

  • Is that Nicron flashlight a good deal? Magnetic angled head sounds pretty useful. How would that compare to a cheapie Cree Q5 for brightness outdoors? Is UV useful at all?

    • First: Thanks for the shout out 5hogun - glad to help OzB spread torch addiction!

Second: urzu asks: “Is UV useful at all?"

Useful depends on what you need/want UV for…

It is useful to me! We have 4-legged friends visiting some nights who leave spray over outdoor items. We can light up their spray with UV light to then wash it off. I used to have a UV fluoro light that used 8(!) D-cell batteries, so the NICRON B75 will be a great replacement.
