PS3 Has No Display but Only Sound

Hey all,

I have one of the old fatass PS3's that I got for free on my Sony TV purchase. (I would never buy one)

Was working fine until couple weeks ago. It still turns on fine. Says 576p on TV by the display doesn't come up anymore but I still hear the start up sound.

Any ideas on how to fix/reset it? Could it be my HDMI cable?

Also any pc nerds here? Need some advice on reinstalling windows afters after a reset failed and I lost the whole os

Haha, that's what you get for broadening 10 PS3's!

I would try using the AV out, no HDMI and see what happens, just temporarily.

Yes, I should but I'd still like to use a HDMI cable. Don't have much use for the use anyways, just use it to occasionally browse Ozb with its shit browser. Thx for the advice :)

Could it be my HDMI cable?

Try it on another device to find out. Plug in a laptop with hdmi to your tv etc.

Tried and it worked. HDMI cable is fine. :)

Try another device plugged in to the tv.

Actually it's working now!! Plugged HDMI cable back in. Then followed https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/359162 this and it turned on :) thanks again Ozbargain.

My free demo games are still there. Didn't lose anything. Maybe I should actually start turning it off the proper way .

Now any tips on how to jail break this and make it run Linux so it can be more useful?

    • +2

If you never updated it, it will run Linux out of the box

(profanity) (profanity) (profanity) (profanity) (profanity) ps3 broke again!

      • If you have a PSP, you might be able set up headless connection.

  • Not sure if you fixed the isse yet or if this thread is dead, change resolution, because my TV didn't support 1080i, it will not display, so I change it to 1080p on a different monitor that fix the problem
