As long as those going are respectful and keep their egos in check I’m sure they won’t mind. I just hope Japan doesn’t turn into the new Bali for attracting our degenerates.
Way too expensive for that :)
I did this last year in April. Was like $750 return for the two of us with bags from the Gold Coast. Everyone should get to Tokyo in their lifetime… amazing place!!
Dead..going Japan during Easter paid $1300 to fly on JAL lol…crying right now.
Holiday period and i'm sure a much more better airline. Don't feel too bad
I paid $690 for the exact same thing…
Really ? When did u book and on what flight ? We booked November last year and JAL never went on sale ?
Leaving on the Wednesday before Easter and returning on the Sunday after. Booked it when JAL first announced their direct flights from MEL at the end of May last year. They had all flights for that price so I obviously picked a peak period :)
@lainey13: ohh! Nice one!! Enjoy
I just booked Singapore Airlines Oct-Nov return 700 with 30kgs and 2 meals included, better deal IMHO only 1hr stopover
I used to fly jetstar to Japan. 5 times actually. But Qantas beats it easily in comfort, convenience and service. Once I had 6 cans of Kirin beer served by flight attendant while watching movies in economy class.
The trick is that I buy tickets with the help of my GF. She is overseas and works in a travel agency. Don't know why but in their booking system there is no price surge on Christmas or Easter, easy return and exchange of tickets. So now I'm with Qantas. Not saying that if you want 30kg of luggage, proper meal and entertainment and same leg room - you end up even with higher cost of travel with Jetstar. And low-cost terminal 3 at Narita is unconvenient walk to main 2nd terminal too. Just my thoughts guys. The new terminal 3 at Narita is horrendous, this alone is enough for me to not fly Jetstar next time. Also will go full service next time now that we have a child to take along too.
I assume that's the one with the massive long walking track between terminals? That was pretty far, I agree.
Even the walk didn't worry me, dragging the bags and a 6 month old in a carrier. But inside felt like cattle. All sit in 1 area, minimal facilites (a bit of food, but after eating amazing food for 3 weeks you don't want crap again). Open ceiling and just sparse. Not even a good duty free in that terminal.
Jetstar used to go into Terminal 2 (which i hope Qantas still does), and its pretty amazing to get off your plane quickly, straight to get the Skyliner to Ueno or NEX to Shinjuku.
Also, having to get to GC for the direct flight with Jetstar added a bit to the trip, so direct from Brisbane would be nice as well.
Jetstar used to go into Terminal 2 (which i hope Qantas still does
Sure does. I actually don't mind NRT's T3. I quite like it as an LCC terminal although with my bad knee, I used the bus to get to T2 but Qantas is stillin T2, and the Lounge is still one of my favourites with sweeping tarmac views, even if the JAL Sakura Lounge is superior in every other way.
which qantas flight did you fly with? in my trip to Finland this june, the plane qantas used between syd and tokyo was soooooooooooooooooooooooo old! the plane flying from Tokyo to Helsinki was sooooooooooo modern (but thats JAL's). Did i miss something?
QF61 and QF62
That is Airbus A330-300 normally. Personally feel they are more comfortable that 787s.I do love the A333 that Qantas use. Their economy seat is fantastic. Nice & wide, and their business class suite is just the best on that model of plane, but JAL's 787 is just superior to it in every way.
Qantas fly the old 747's between Sydney & Tokyo while they fly the superior A333 with better economy & business class seats from Brisbane & Melbourne. JAL fly the 787 between Australia & Japan, as well as Japan & Finland and is a superior product in every way to Qantas' A333.
That explains everything. Will not fly qantas to Tokyo again. Maybe Jetstar is a better option.
thanks OP booked from Syd, got it under 1k with baggage + entertainment packs, good enough for me
Am I reading this right, it cost $90 each way for 20KG checked baggage?
That's the worst I've seen, my (proposed) dates are $71 each way for 25Kg and I saw $75 for some others. $142 in baggage alone.
that's for inclusion of other benefits like meals, entertainment, etc.
it is $39 for 20 kg one way (Bris to Osaka)My figures are baggage only
What are the dates for Melbourne. Jetstar site is playing up for me
27 Aug - 19 September 2018
Use with double qantas status credits offer?
one (perhaps obvious) tip re. lack of food on Jetstar:
When we travelled with jetstart around 10yrs ago we simply bought a whole heap of sushi + cheesecake + any other food you like in Japan and brought it all on the plane and ate them!It was the best food on a plane we ever had! :)
Exactly why I did! Though I accidentally forgot to eat some of it and customs in Cairns caught me lol, but after telling them it was an honest mistake they just let me go, my mate just ate it in front of them instead of disposing of it!
hahaha love it! I would've done the same too (ie. eating in front of them) lol
The officer even said that she was eyeing it off and that if she was off duty she'd want it lol!
@doweyy: actually that reminds me - I always think in my head you know with all the food they confiscate everyday, I wonder if they could take some of it lol
@homersyd: yeah I think when they catch people trying to bring in extra alcohol and cigarettes that they definitely destroy them and they wouldn't even think of taking them home and drinking/smoking and/or selling them themselves. I know I wouldn't :/
I started eating my grapes just next to the quarantine bin after getting off my MEL-HOBART plane, and the custom officer told me to stop eating it and bin it. When I continued she threatened to arrest me. Custom officers in Tasmania are the worst…
$449.65 (x2) for me from Adelaide
Bought Jetstar gift cards online first to avoid a $4.50 debit card fee 😛. Multiple gift cards can be stacked when paying for the flights. No luggage, no seats, no food, no entertainment, no worries. 👍
Arigato 👏⛩Good deal. off to japan for the first time. excited.
It's a beautiful place, have fun!
what is the best plan for 4 day trip to get most out in Japan. No kids. just adults. Landing on friday 6pm in Tokyo and got full Saturday, Sunday, Monday and flying out 8pm on Tuesday. Obviously food, sightseeing landscape city will be the major interest of the travel.
Honestly not a whole lot of time, but if it's your first trip and historical stuff is your thing then spending 2-3 days in Kansai visiting Kyoto/Osaka/Nara is probably the best bet IMO, and one in Tokyo to round it off. If modern is more your thing, 2 in Tokyo, 2 in Kansai.
http://japan-guide.com/ really is any first timer's best friend for planning though I'd say.
Probably I will do Tokyo only this time as getting to and back from other cities seems as expensive as this flight in japan.
There are cheaper highway buses if you're able to sleep on them, otherwise if you don't plan to be back anytime soon, taking the Shinkansen is an experience in itself. But yeah with only 4 days maybe just one city is best.
@GS9891:
Any tip on getting a budget accomodation for 4 people in Tokyo? which is the best location to get around and what type, hotel or hostel cheapest etc?@bathuu: Hotel Villa Fontaine was great for us in Tokyo - you get a nice breakfast every day, they're all over the place and very affordable. 3* japanese hotels feel like 4.5* australian ones, just the rooms are smaller. Just pick a train station that you think you'd like to use as your base and find the closest one. There's a rail loop in Tokyo - Yamanote line - which will take you all around the city, so a hotel near a stop on that is usually good.
Things to do in Tokyo - highlight of my last trip was the owl cafe. Handle/feed owls, they are very sweet and it is super affordable. I would skip cat cafe though as the cats were all pretty bored and not interested in playing. The Ghibli museum was also fun and had some cool collectables if you like that kind of thing - your ticket is a piece of film from one of their animations so every one is unique. It can be quite hard to get tickets to this though - tickets for foreigners sell out very fast and are overpriced. But, you can buy a local ticket at 7-11 if you can manage to navigate the machine. It was difficult, but there are guides online and we struggled through after asking a couple of local high schoolers to help us. If you like seafood, Tsukiji fish markets is great - I'm not too big on it myself, but my wife loved it. Outside of that, it's a giant city with a tonne of shopping (Shibuya, Harajuku) and great food. Japan is worth visiting just for the dining alone!
If you do a repeat trip in the future I'd recommend flying in/out of Osaka instead and taking the train up to Kyoto and using that as your base. Amazing city filled with history and beautiful sights, can go and hang out with some monkeys on top of a mountain or walk bamboo forests or take a train for an hour and go to a city full of deer. Feed/pet them, have some good food and feel at peace. Ancient shrines everywhere, truly beautiful.
Have a fun trip :)
As long as you're in central Tokyo, getting around is a non-issue, for utmost convenience choose accomodation near a station on the yamanote loop line perhaps.
As for budget, AirBnB is probably the cheapest outside of hostel bunks (which usually aren't much cheaper if at all actually, and not nearly as comfortable as AirBnB'ing an entire apartment). Other than that you have the same options as in any major city from private rooms in hostels to 5 star hotels, just depends how much you want to spend.
Thanks for the detailed information guys. will have a look and air bnb and hotel villa fountain rates for accomodation.
Managed to get Melb to Tokyo 29 July - 14 August for $376 per person ($404 per person including seats and debit card fee). Thanks OP!
I can't view any flights. The engine just days searching but won't show me flights.
Is it just my PC or is the system clogged up.
Don't want to miss out :(
yes it looks like we broke the website.
I asked at STA Travel, and also looked on skyscanner, and couldn't find these fares. So hopefully they are still there when the website comes back.
Booked a fare for $417 return this morning on skyscanner. I checked it randomly, didn't know about the sale. Could probably have been more flexible on the dates as I found out later on the actual jetstar website, and it was a whole four dollars cheaper on the official site.
Keep in mind - weekend 17-18-19 august is Summersonic and Sonic Mania. I only checked the fares to go see nine inch nails. Bought it immediately!
Found even cheaper. $356 AUD return with club Jetstar discount from Sydney. May 24 - June 14. Cheers!
Can I anyone tell me the dates when it’s free return from Japan
As soon as you add baggage it's $620 from Adelaide return and the deal becomes average at best. Bloody Jetstar charging $65 each way for bags.
Is this the best deal for Japan? Have Jetstar done anything like this before?
These fares are close to as cheap as they come, but Jetstar does either this or a 2-for-1 sale to Japan about every 6 months it seems.
2 for 1 is alright. I mean going to Japan is better to go with more than one cause it's pretty expensive.

Yeah definitely more now than when I first visited in 2006 but still it's not like walking around Sydney where nearly everyone is foreign, even I'm foreign!
I really hope Japan doesn't change too much and I still feel like I'm the odd one out when I visit in the future.
