Not sure why the last deal didn't get many upvotes. Many reviews said this is the fastest AC3200 in the market.
The review are based on the price of US$300, and based on that it has disappointing features.
But at less than $100, I don't think there is anything better.

Merlin or DDWRT available for this one?

    • +3

      unfortunately not… I didn't neg you btw.
Maybe in the future. It uses Broadcomm

      • +1

        looks like no openwrt either

linksys looks like supporting ONLY the WRT series, not the EA stuff

    • Yes you can load Merlin, Tomato or DDWRT. Goog
      e it.

I have merlin loaded on the ea9200 from last months ozb deal.

      • I googe'd it and didnt find anything supporting your claim that it supports Merlin.

        • The only Linksys that can run merlin is the EA6900 v1.0 - 1.1.

        • @chupa chup:

Im running it on EA6700 using xvortex's EA6900 CFE

        • @lonix:

          Interesting.

Found the asus cfe for EA6700 here

        • @chupa chup:

Would that being back my USB 3 port?

I don't use it anyway, no big loss

        • @lonix:

I would ask that question to the poster of the EA6700 CFE.

      • Can you link to DD-WRT firmware for this model? Because I can't find it. I thought this model was locked.

        • There is no DD-WRT firmware for the Linksys EA9200.
List of compatible DD-WRT models here

      • sincere apologies. Indeed I have mixed up the model compatibility!

I await the next OzB on extra strength coffee.

Sorry for any angst over my posting.

  • Awesome price. I have one.

  • +1

Price is great but the reviews are so bad…

    • +1

The Asus rt ac88u ac3200 is about $240-300.
It is one the best brand for router.
      Would you get it?

What if it's a damaged or refurbished version that has slightly shorter range at half the price, would you get it?

This router has shorter range than other 3200, less features and no open source software. But it is a third of the price and has faster speed.

      I would risk it.

    • If i'm not mistaken, those bad reviews are from when comparing it to other AC3200 routers which are in the ~$300 price range. It's all relative.

      • And for older firmware…

        • There are a lot comments in Amazon about intermittent dropouts, some comments are from 2017/2018. Is this not the case anymore?

        • +1

@tukanglistrik: I get intermittent dropouts when I move around and my phone switches from one 5Ghz band to the other (I suspect). This router is also affected by the Google Chromecast issue where it DDOS's the network with keepalive requests, but Google (and Linksys) will apparently fix that. None of my laptops, TV, Chromecasts or other static devices have any issues.

Signal is always strong. No crashes either.

Keep in mind that it ships with old firmware. You must update to intermediate first before flashing the latest.

  • Can anyone tell me how it compares to "Netcomm VDSL/ADSL WiFi VoIP GIGABIT Gateway NF18ACV"? Thanks

    • +1

It doesn't compare. Very different devices.

      • Thank you :) just did some research and realised this Linksys was a router and not a modem router

  • i think the price has changed to $103 even with he prawns code

  • $116 now, seems like a decent unit but still undecided

    • Still $92.88 for me

      • It will say 116 in paypal, but still 92 on ebay, and when you get the receipt later it will only charge 92. I dont think that the paypal popup adds the prawns discount

        • How are you getting $92?

          $129 - 20% = 103. How are you getting an extra 10%?

        • @nedski:
Bit late i know but it is the PRAWNS discount plus the store discount already on the item. you just have to make sure to add it to cart, not buy now

  • how does this one compare to the Linksys WRT1200AC on a FTTP 100/40 NBN plan?

    • +1

I'm using the WRT1200AC on 100/40 FTTN, although I can't give you a companion as I haven't used this one the WRT1200 is definitely a great router. In saying that it could be because I flashed DD-WRT on it. The customisations are endless and very useful. But overall I've experienced a solid router imo.

  • Does this work with cable? (Optus cable broadband)

    • +1

It is a router, not a modem.
You would plug your cable router into this via LAN cable. Either make a new network with it or bridge the current network with your router.

  • I was thinking of upgrading my shitty iinet supplied router to a separate router + WAP like this article recommends, the the Wifi is quite garbage at the moment after a few people get on it.

  • hmmm…..its always harder to make the commitment knowing the vendor has ramped the price since the deal was posted ;-(

  • Couple of questions,

    How are people getting this for 92.88? Its currently listed at 129. $129 - 20% = $103.2.

Secondly, I am on a FTTP, im assuming this will work on that if I plug it directly into the NBN box?

    Thanks

    • Add it to the cart first for extra 10%.

      • Awesome! I added it to my cart and with the prawns code, its coming up as $92.88. Thanks for your help.

    • +1

      I got it for $92.88:
      1) added to cart,
      2) go to checkout and a 10% discount was applied bringing it down to $116.10,
      3) then entered the PRAWNS code for a further 20% off = $92.88
      4) Pay with PayPal.

      • Thanks everyone! Just placed an order to replace my current modem which sometimes just loses the net connection and I have to power cycle to get it back.

        • This isn't a modem. It's a router, you'll need to connect this to a modem.

        • @AEKaBeer: Yep, I have FTTP, I can just plug it into the NBN box.

  • Is Firewall or ACL included in this one?

  • I still use the old TP-link TD 8980 ADSL N600 modem + router , + synology DJ213+ , sometime net very slow if the NAS doing something , I thinking of buying one of this to overcome this problem , cheap enough .

    • Is the nas connected to Ethernet?
The shop also has gigabit connector for around 20 bucks. Should get one if u need more Ethernet ports

  • I have 2 NAS , one DJ213+ bought long time ago and last year the WD my cloud EX2 ultra 16TB from here both connected to 2 ethernet port , but when someone ( my kid) use the NAS ie copy or write files between NAS and his computer , the internet slow down alot and NASc also very slow too , I stll have 2 ethernet free .

    • Seems that this router is made for that.

Its said it can manage that smartly somehow.

Let me know how it goes if u buy one.

  • OMG! They still havent shipped it! HURRY UP!

    • Because they don't have any stock to ship! Lucky we have Paypal

      • Um what?

      • Just got a notification from Auspost that the item should arrive tomorrow.

        • May I ask when did you order yours? I paid on 26/01 and still waiting for the tracking number. Fingers crossed.

        • @lite2010: I ordered on 26/01 as well.

Just got an email out of the blue on Tuesday that the item had been shipped. Ebay still says that the item has not been shipped.

Tracking information says that the item is in the ACT and should be delivered today.

      • Mine arrived today … going to be used to upgrade our LAN meeting :)

Found it's a bit fussy with USB flash drives, didn't like my Kingston USB3 32GB Duo but was OK with a Sandisk USB3 128GB Micro and a 1TB Toshiba HDD.

        • We are the lucky ones but others are not so lucky. See post below

  • Got a cancellation email saying there's been a stock issue with the item. Did anyone get the same email?

  • My router arrived two days ago FWIW
