This or the Kogan one? I need a new TV ASAP
for 500 bucks i think either are good value :) go to harvey and have a look at the pic quality i guess?
two hdmi ports but yeh less than $500 lol
Kogan
Thanks, any reason why??
I got that 55” curved one few months back. Great quality. Good sound and returned first one as doa. No hassles at al
Is Altius part of Aldi family brand?
Seems it was / is in Ireland. Twitter post from 2015.
Yes, this is the Aldi home brand of TV's in the UK.
Anyone wanna dip down to local store and post a quick review?
Just had a look, look alright. Nothing overly impressive but for $499 anything better than terrible is a bonus. Worth it as an elcheapo tv if you're someone who usually uses a computer/laptop and just want one for occasional use… And/or if want to spoil the kids lol
I'm looking at an elcheapo for outside, given it would get rare use… Should I even be worried about how a cheap one holds up outside, id assume it would hold up just as good as anything
Didn't really take note of the brightness, not sure. I can look again tomorrow for you, but tbh you'd probably want a good smaller one for outdoors imo
@dyl:
Have quite a large area, and measuring the wall anything less than 55" will look silly. It's undercover so will not ever be in direct sunlight.
Edit: by "holding up" I meant would the heat/weather affect any cheaper tv's more than spending a few more dollars.
Oh I gotcha, not sure for that side of things. Don't think it'd do any worse than expensive TVs, but you'd want a cover of some kind either way if you could find one.
good enuf for bedroom or gaming
Why would something be good enough for gaming? I would have thought refresh rate/colour depth matters more in gaming than any other visual media. Only asking as I am looking at a getting a new TV for my PS4.
input lag being the most important thing for gaming aside, it is not possible to know input lag specs until someone tests it and uploads it to an online database like https://displaylag.com/
Check what the PS4 is capable of outputting. For the most part consoles aren't capable of high fps. I believe the next gen consoles have some major breakthroughs though in regards to FPS and for colour depth (HDR) etc. Now if the console ports of games follow suit or not is another matter!
Fair call, If it's capped at a 60fps output (Not saying it is), the 100 hz refresh rate isn't actually going to do anything is it?
When you say next gen, do you mean PS4pro/OneX?
@Cubist:
Yeah tv frame rate doesn't matter for consoles. All consoles are capped at 60fps and all TVs do 60fps. There are TVs that can do smooth motion processing for simulated higher fps, but that introduces a delay which is crap for gaming.
lemme know what tv you are gonna get, am also on the hunt for a cheap but good for gaming TV. Thats all it need s to be capable of for me
Has a smart remote btw. Normal remote one side, keyboard on other. Pretty decent.
What do you think the start up time is like?
I heard Kogan TV's have a long start process. The Kogan splash hangs for 1-2mins.
For sub $500 worth a look imo.
Would also like to know this as well as if it is slow changing channels etc
What's the sound like? Every aldi TV I've come across has very poor sound
I can't really imagine thin TVs producing good sound to be honest, expansive or not…
I punched in the model number into google, and it was coming up with the same model number as the akai
Funny that Harvey Norman removed this listing altogether.
Its still available through Domayne
