  • I'm not targeted either. But this is a good deal if your targeted. The other deals are usually 10% off minimum $75 spend.

I've always wondered about the potential loophole associated with these % off everything eBay promotions.

Person A lists an item for $3,000 (say, a MacBook Pro), ideally with a no / $1 final value fee promotion.

Person B (Person A's friend) 'purchases' the item for $2,700 via PayPal bank transfer, and Person A receives $3,000 less some eBay and Paypal fees.

A and B then split the profits.

Any idea on whether that works? And what eBay does to combat fake transactions?

    • +3

You're looking at a small, very, very small picture, extremely closed minded. Do you think ebay reports all sales and pays taxes on all its activities? You think they care about these as you call them "fake transactions" you have no idea at all how many loopholes businesses use to make huge profits, legal loopholes. Not to mention all does poor people working for these corporations and paid $1 a day, if even that much.

    • +1

ideally with a no / $1 final value fee promotion.

It MUST be otherwise the fees more than 10%

    • +2

"$3,000 less some eBay and Paypal fees" will leave approximately $2,701 - there's not enough profit to make the fraud worthwhile.

    • +2

eBay did do a promotion for Father's Day where it was like 50% off the bbq category. So then buyers started to sell plastic fork bundled with a ps4 to which eBay canceled them afterwards
. But if planned correct you could get away if you planned with a friend , ie: if you do not link your account with theirs and eBay is quite tight about it.

  • Thought I would try it, and it worked, thanks.

Hope that might help those who couldn't get AWESOME to work :D

  • +1

    Awesome I wasn't targeted, saved $$$

  • Looks like that's the wrong code. Please double-check and try again…………. o well

  • Hi guys, I'm hoping you can clear something up for me. I just read the first few comments, am I to understand that sometimes these eBay voucher/codes are only going to work for some people and not others? Is this what Targeted means?
    Only yesterday I was having a discussion online in a Forum taking screenshots, as this one member was able to show how he was getting a promo code under 'payments' whereas my screenshots was not. Could this be he was Targeted and I not? Please have a look at the last two-three posts and screenshots in this thread and get back to me, cheers!;

  • Funny how a so-called discount special is being applied yet I can not apply it on ANYTHING here on Ebay.

Do we need to report this to the ACCC for false and misleading conduct, being committed by Ebay?

This is happening all too frequently now.

    • You're kidding right? Just because a business wanted to run a special targeted at specific people you think it's misleading conduct? Wow.

Might as well report every business then considering all the deals that have this.

      • So this is normal, you get sent an email confirming this so-called discount yet when you try and use it, it's 100% fake instead?

Hence why send out any notifications at all?

        • So you definitely got an email from eBay for that account with this coupon and it's not working? Or an email for this deal from OzB?
