Vaguely remember SA being an partner airline of Virgin, last promo I was able to transfer my KrisFlyer miles over to Velocity.

    • At a 30% discount though right?

      • There was a trade off, can’t remember the exact amount.

Free points are free points :)

        • +3

Yup, however you need a minimum of 5,000 on your SA account to transfer to VA at a 1.35 to 1 rate.

      • don't do it anymore =[

  • Did you get your points right way…?

    • The KrisFlyer miles will take about 4 to 6 weeks to be credited into the member’s account.

        Damn thats ages.

Do I need to wait to see the points? I just registered but have 0 Elite miles

    • Maybe it takes 8 weeks lol

  • +2

Lol literally signed up last week damn..

Also an FYI, once I signed up, I was able to change to a larger range of seats with Singapore than I could when I booked originally. Was worth signing up just for that.

I believe this is not because you are KF member but because SQ just transitioned into a new seat selection system - paying for seats for some ticket classes / choosing 'forward seats' etc

      • Definitely because of KF. When I go to seat selection it says "Due to being a KF member, you get a complimentary upgrade for *****" or something similar to that.

        • Do you mean complimentary seat selections?

Unless we are talking about different things - From experience prior to the new seating charge system, SQ releases only a select number of seats for you to reserve in advance. IIRC around 4 days before flight departure and online check in being open, the system automatically releases all the flights' seat for advance selection.

With the new seat change, all the seats are now open and if you book before 20 January, SQ will still honour the complimentary seat selection for ticket classes that now falls into the bucket of paying for seat selection.

After 20 Jan, depending on the class of your ticket, you will need to pay for seat selection. Alternatively you could be a Silver/Gold and above KF tier and enjoy complimentary privileges - https://www.singaporeair.com/en_UK/au/flying-withus/fare-typ…

How do I know? Flying in a couple of weeks and no seats were available for me to select at the time of booking. Now, I can select my seats for free as ticket was ticketed before 20 Jan :)

Regardless, being a KF member is awesome just for collecting miles and getting free flights/upgrades. Think AMEX!

        • @madmo:

Taken directly from the Seat Selection page

"Passengers who are PPS Club / KrisFlyer members enjoy privileges when selecting seats"

then it lists "forward zone" seats as complimentary which opens up a whole heap I never had access to when booking.

Maybe it does coincide with what you're mentioning, and it was just a coincidence?

          Either way i'm happy!!!

        • @anzacpaul:

Yup, you must have booked your ticket before 20 January 2018 or you paid for a Flexi ticket, and you get complimentary forward zone seats.

Moving forward, depending on your ticket bucket (Lite, Standard, Flexi), SQ may charge you for advance selection of three types of seats (Standard, Forward, Extra legroom).

Unless you are Silver tier (free selection of Standard seats) or Gold (free seletion of Forward or Standard seats), OR, you purchase Standard/Flexi tickets, the base KF tier when signing up for this promo does not automatically provide complimentary seat selection.

I was hoping SQ would not have resorted to this as I had always viewed them as a class leading airline. I guess their recent losses means they have to start generating revenue / cutting costs elsewhere.

Glad you have the choice to reserve your seats in advance. Just be aware forward zone seats may not always be the best choice of seats as the first rows are usually occupied by babies! Happy travels :)

    Is there family pooling?

    • no

  • You can't get any items for free, lowest cost item is 1250 points and its only a magnet

  • -2

Signed up, but no points in account. It mentions you can redeem the points right away?

  • What's the expiry policy on points?

    • +3

3 years of no use, they expire.

  • 'We’ll send your membership card and other printed membership material to this address.' Could probably use a fake address but I just…don't…want them mailing me random stuff I'll never want.

    • +2

ive been with them for a few years and never received a thing. not even a membership card

      • +1

You usually get the card after your first flight.

        • Ah ok. Fair enough. Mines later this year

        • +1

          @Fizzydrink:

You can get a digital copy of the card first. And if using iPhone, you can have this digital card stored in your wallet.

Shame, the promotion like 2 years ago was 5,000 points.

    • Yeah that's when I rejoined - all the family did - 5000 points each, all transferred to Velocity and then family pooled. Even with the loss, it made for a nice stash with no expiry :D

  • Thanks for the points OP, got my statement credit today and it had 1k points :)
