Loading Zone: Parking Ticket

Hi friends,

I had a parking ticket issued couple of days back for parking my car in a loading zone. The time of the offence recorded was 9:57AM; however the parking is free after 10:00AM. To be honest, I did not notice the sign board as I always park there, but usually after 10:00.

I am thinking for appealing the case, but wanted to discuss my approach.

TIA

Technically you're in the wrong but there is no harm in asking for leniency. Just be prepared to be rejected. It takes time for an officer to write up an offence so it would be reasonable to assume you were parked there long before 10am.

Should be fine if you were driving an SUV

  • I think the ticket man must have had a quote to fill.

      lol..ya.

Seems like he was hiding in the bushes desperate to meet his targets

You're approach should be to give up now.

  • Ask the council for maintenance logs of the meter and when last serviced to ensure the time is correct as your watch said it was 10am. They may give in and withdraw the fine rather than producing the logs

    • He doesn't mention there is a meter involved? Free parking after 10am?

      • Yes good pickup. My bad

        • Good idea though!

        • I like the idea though. My watch is saying 5:49 but my computer says 5:44. Time.is says 5:46.

          Which is right?

        • @jjjaar:

My watch is saying 5:49 but my computer says 5:44. Time.is says 5:46.

your computer use ntp. so it's the most accurate time.

        • your computer use ntp. so it's the most accurate time.

Maybe straight after it polls the NTP server, but that's only likely to be every 24 hours or so.

I had a doctors appointment that morning and I was prescribed to perform a MRI scan and have the form on me, if that would help !!

    • Lol

    • How can you park your car in"loading zone" when you are having doctor appointment?

      • maybe he was bringing the MRI machine with him so he needed to "unload it"

  • They'll flatly refuse cos you can't question their income. Therefore, find a legal point & question that.

  • The time of the offence recorded was 9:57AM

The ticket was issued 3 minutes before the cutoff time of 10:00am.

What time was it when you actually parked in that spot?

You could've easily been in there for 15 minutes or more before the ranger made his/her way back and gave you that ticket at 9:57.

    • I would say may be like 9:55. Can't be earlier than that.

      • I'm no angel and I'll admit that I used to park my 4WD wagon in Loading Zones in the Sydney CBD just before the allocated time that normal parking started and I never got asked to leave or ever got a ticket for it. Usually on Friday and Saturday nights.

Because as soon as it switched to normal parking, the spots get snapped up pretty quickly.

It helps if you're actually there too - the rangers are told to not ticket cars if the owner is there to minimise the chances of confrontations.

  • Accept responsibility for your actions and keep some semblance of dignity and pay the fine.
