It will still be supported for at least another 2-3 years since the series 1 is still available and Apple is known to have longer life cycle on devices compared Android Wear watches

If you want it to be able to connect to a mobile network independently from an iPhone then yes, if not then you’re fine with this.
only with the cellular version S3.
And by paying extra bucks monthly for connection which is only available for post paid customers for Telstra and optus only
