FREE BAT (Basic Attention Token) from Brave

220

So for those of you into cryptocurrencies, the team behind the Brave browser is giving $1 million dollars worth of tokens.

All you have to do is download the BRAVE browser and there will be a pop up prompting you to claim free tokens.

So they gave me 17.50 BAT (8.20 USD) which is worth around 10.30 AUD as I type this, but I mean you can always hodl tight and watch it moon.

Just kidding but seriously this team is doing a great job and check out their browser.

Brave Software, a start-up building a new browser and a blockchain-based digital advertising platform, announced today that it is giving away $1 million in promotional Basic Attention Tokens (BAT) on a first-come basis. Browser users can claim the grants to support their favorite websites, content creators, and YouTube channels via Brave Payments. Each grantee will receive approximately 5 USD in promotional BAT (which must be used within 90 days) from the User Growth Pool (UGP), a fund of 300 million tokens set up to incentivize users and publishers to join the decentralized BAT platform.

You can only use it to support publishers and content creators. ( i was joking about the hodl and moon)
I think its mostly a marketing ploy, but IMO their browser is good at what it does. unclogging all the useless ads etc..

The BAT grants must be used within 90 days to support publishers and creators, otherwise they will automatically return to the BAT UGP.

  • Cool, I love free money!

  • Do we get 1 BAT or 17.50 like you?

Edit:How can a company afford to give away $1 million worth of a product?

    • +10

Because it's not actually worth a million dollars. Obv.

      • +1

It is worth a million just might not be our currency… Today's EX rate 1 million Vietnamese Dong = USD$44

    • Like all new cryptos the people behind are most likely holding a truckload of it. Just generating hype for the currency so they can dump their share when it's popular enough.

    When moon?

  • +3

You'd better note in the description that the BAT must be used within 90 days, too. From the linked web page:

Each grantee will receive approximately 5 USD in promotional BAT (which must be used within 90 days) from the User Growth Pool (UGP)

  • Crypto Ferret here. I'm on it.

  • Donated it all to Ozbargain YT

  • dont see the popup

  • You cant use this to buy anything, you have to give it to a publisher or creator .

  • +1

Can't actually remove the BAT, it's locked into their browser

  • How can you HODL them if they return to BAT UGP after 90 days if not used?

    • HODL for 89 days and you would be a veteran crypro investor.

  • +1

  • -1

Disney Dollars restricted to spyware software.

  • only got 10 too

  • so can these go to any other wallet or exchange?

  • if u dont use within 90 days they return back into the pool

  • +2

How long am I supposed to bat off for ,
before someone gives me some money ?

    • Depends on what website your cam feeds into

      • +1

I'm being told I have an offer
        if I turn it off

  • Neat. Already owned some BAT and now I have 10 more

  • So are you meant to use the browser every 90 days to retain the BAT?

  • +2

Is there any way to withdraw the BAT?

    • Can I refund money that I've placed into my Brave BAT wallet?
Not yet. The Brave BAT wallet is currently unidirectional, and its sole purpose is to anonymously and securely contribute to publishers of websites of your choosing. In the future, the Brave wallet will give users the option of going through a “Know Your Customer” (KYC) process in order to gain full control over their BAT wallet, including the ability to transfer BAT out of the wallet.

This seems pointless. It's being upvoted though so I must be missing something? This is what I see:

    Download the Brave browser.
Claim free BAT through promotional pop up.
Yay - all things good you now have BAT.
    BAT is actually worth money.

    BUT

You cannot withdraw it to another wallet.
You must spend it within 90 days with third parties.

So basically I don't get the bargain? I can only "support their favorite websites, content creators, and YouTube channels via Brave Payments".

Is there anything physical at all to be gained by this? Which website, content, or YouTube channel takes BAT and gives something decent in return?

Just genuine question. This is OzBargain after all and I'm not seeing one unless I've missed something as I've said.

EDIT AFTER GOING THROUGH THE STEPS Looks like payments automatically go out to websites you visit with Brave based on an algorithm. So if you wanted to keep your Brave, you have to turn it off? I'm so confused as to the point of this really. It seems it rewards publishers in other ways because Brave block their ads. This is all good for content creators and publishers I'm sure I just don't see how we gain anything from actually having BAT. Again, where is the bargain?

    Big Warning.

As a creator you require an Uphold account, but as people already know this firm has a dubious record. I wouldn't be surprised if they are in on the scam. If you don't register within 90 days of being donated to, then your fake BAT token goes to a pool and redistributed again.

The biggest part of the scam is that BAT you get from the browser cannot be traded as there is no software wallet. For the person who posted the link to the market cap, that is just the phony token from the ethereum ICO which will never rise in value because it was a con from the start. This is not the same token, even though it has the same name.

The problem with the system they have created is that all BAT is automatically converted into fiat at Uphold which means there is no actual trading in the BAT browser token. I suspect they have set it up so there is no actual blockchain required. Basically you can buy BAT browser token at the price they set in the browser; but you aren't gifting the token, you are in fact gifting a percentage of the fiat you just gave to brave browser company.

This is how they plan to make money, along with other publishers paying to have their ads unblocked. All of this will take place off-blockchain, since we cannot prove the browser blockchain even exists. You'll never see a physical BAT inside your wallet or be able to trade it unless you bought that phony ICO. That's because it isn't even the same thing!

Furthermore, the KYC requirements are through the roof on Uphold. No one would touch it with a barge or pole. The figures of them transacting millions are actually from the former Bitreserve company, which we all know was dubious itself.

So, that's how the scam works. It's a bit like bitconnect, the so called ponzi scheme which supposedly uses blockchain but cannot be proven. They have no visible blockchain. It is all opaque which means it technically we cannot prove it is using blockchain technology at all. It's the same thing.
