661

Hi Guys,

Just stumbled upon this on Gearbest thanks to store rep Sunny she said it's a flash sale.

Looks pretty good deal for money to get a smart lock which has gor finger print, Code, Key and zigbee integration.

Have seen quite a few locks of Samsung this comes in at fraction of cost as the cheapest one for Samsung starts from $299 at Bunnings

Ok does anyone know how much to get this installed?
Edit: price is only for left opening handle, the right version costs almost double

    • +4

Open on the right -> Black and gold is on sale.
Open on the left -> Black and silver is on sale.
      Other versions are not.

      • +1

Damn, wanted open on the right in black and silver

        • +1

Me too! Can we get the Open on the right in black and silver in a flash sale please GearBest rep?

      • +1

Looks like open on the right - > black and gold has already been OzBargained!!

    • cant install ourself?

      • locks are not hard to install. need extra tools to cuts the hole.

        • +2

Have to wire this one up somehow I presume

    • -1

Based on the installation video the handle and lock direction can be changed

      • +1

Then you open the door in opposite orientation.

  • reviews? videos? youtube?

Smart lock is a worry, especially if there isn't any backup mechanism. But then if we have backup mechanism, there isn't much point of Smart lock.

    • +4

Why is it such a worry?

      • +6

Because he doesn't like to do research and think about things, so complex products can be troublesome for him.

    • +5

If you look at full details of the product it comes with three emergency keys. One of the photos shows the conventional lock I assume hidden behind the panel. But yes, I have reservations on this - if security flaws come up in a few years will they provide support/updates? Typically the answer is no.

      • +11

So I guess if it came to that, remove the batteries and make it a traditional lock

    • +3

There is no smart lock on the market that does not have a backup mechanism.

    • +1

Bump keys can easily bypass most traditional door locks anyway.

      • ^

I mean if someone want to break in there is much easier ways.

  • Anyone have one of these?

  • Smart lock is awesome. I have Lockwood one installed a year ago and since then no key needs to be carried along. I paid $450 including installation.

    • +11

Where do you live? Street address please

      • +1

Come over at 3/151-241 Goulburn st Surry Hill NSW

        • Parteeeeeee WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • I have a smartlock too, had this installed when I built my house:
      http://www.samsungdigitallife.com/SHS-P717.php

It's sweet, use the pin code and RFID all the time, nice to not have to think about keys. Their new version has bluetooth proximity! Huge downside with some models is they're terribly incompatible with any other lock so when it dies you either need to replace with the same model or you may need to replace the door.

      • Was looking at this one myself.
What do you make of it? Any gotchas?
And was it a ballache to fit or was it ok?

        • +2

Had it for two years, I'd buy again and would be interested in the new one even at the high price because you use it so many times a day. Only gotcha is when it does die the replacement issue as stated above, no way is it going to last as long as a simple normal lock. The two chippies who built the whole house said it was an effort to put it in taking a couple of hours and being quite different to any other hardware they installed.

  • +3

This one uses Zigbee NOT WIFI. I think the title is a typo. I believe it requires a Xiaomi Gateway. Anyway, I have placed the order.

    • Thanks, edited post

    • It seems that the minimum door width needs to be 50mm, but Australian door widths seem to be 35mm (http://www.build.com.au/standard-door-sizes)

Apparently it works with 40mm doors, but you have to replace the lock cylinder (lock head)….whatever that means.

Did you have success installing it? I'm about to give up on this thing :/

  • Nice, thanks for sharing the deal :)

  • What happens if you get into an accident and lose your fingers, then how do you open it?

    • The old fashion way…. with the keys.. you get 3 keys with the lock also with zigbee integration so if you have got smart gateway then you can open it with the MI HOME app

      • +8

How are you going to use the key without fingers?

        • +27

Get a key installed as a finger.

        • Start practicing to become ambidextrous and pray that you don't loose all your fingers because normally anyone wouldn't worry too about opening locks when he or she has lost all fingers.

BTW if you loose all the fingers what arrangements you've got in place at present to open the lock and may be pleasures….

Like scratching when you've got itch back!!

Just fooling around, no hard feelings

        • @Curiouscat:

If you have got hard feelings and no fingers, then there is going to be some problems bigger than opening a lock.

        • @BradleyDS2:
          swiss army hand

    • It can also be unlocked with code input.

      • But what if you've lost your fingers

        • Try NFC card. It also works.

    • What if somebody steals my fingers?

    • +3

Keep one of the fingers. As a pendant or in a key ring

  • +1

Has anyone tried these? What if my Xiaomi account or their servers are comprised, will this lock be compromised as well?

    • If you think that had happened take out the batteries, it will become a traditional lock which can be open by key

    • My initial feeling is no. Since it uses ZigBee, a big chance is that it does not require WIFI connection to be unlocked. Just my guessing, correct me if I am wrong.

      • Honestly, will need to get hands on the manual and use Google translate to answer this question precisely and correctly

        • +5

Your trust in and experience with google translate is obviously better than mine.

The last document that I tried to translate came out as something like: "Insert cat in bucket handle and obfuscate protrusion with utmost quietness. This will total satisfaction yield before armistice nightly"

          Lucky cat.

    • +2

What are the chances hacker hacks the server just to open your door? If you possess such valuable things at home shouldn’t you hire security company to watch over your stuff?

      • -2

        Geez, talk about a strawman.

  • I want a to make my doors secure with smart locks but I'd want to do all of them so they are the same, yet to find one for a sliding door.

    • -2

      Install it on the floor?

  • Why is having 3 ways of someone opening your house a good idea?

    • I ordered just to make sure I can enter my house in the worst case scenario, when I loose the key for the house.

      • +7

        Is your key loose?

    • +3

It doesn't really matter, any determined person can already easily defeat most locks or just break your window.

    • +3

It's about increased convenience, not increased security. Convenience often leads to increased security as people are more likely to use it.

  • +2

Are these so called 'smart' locks plus the regular electronic locks considered as dead locks. I'd make sure with your insurance company if they are covered by insurance, in case of a break in. I bet every insurance company will have a different policy concerning brand and non brand locks.

    • +9

Thief won't bother to spend time to crack your door lock. It's much easier to break a window ……

    • +1

Spoke with ALLIANZ as per the rep no negatives in installing a smart lock which is not manufactured, distributed officially in Oz.

      • +20

When you speak with reps, anything is possible. When you make a claim, nothing is possible.

    • -1

Like all these lock bargains people buying these for security are kidding themselves. If you want a lazy lock just don't lock the door instead of getting something insurance companies can't point at.

Smart locks stopping burglars is like my rock that keeps the tigers away.

      • +6

"Lisa, I'd like to buy your rock…"

  • Open to the right is almost double in price

  • Xiaobargain

  • +3

I think this lock is probably best for Airbnb or Motels - just develop a software to send a temporary code to your guest automatically when they make the booking online, and then never worry about it.

  • Dammit Just as I was contemplating it the price jumped back to normal :(
Oh wait its back. That was weird.

    • Nah mate.

Login into the gearbest website and try again. Just tried seems to be working okay.

      Still not ozbargained.

  • Do these run on battery's?

  • +1

That's an ugly looking smart lock.

  • I always wanted a smart lock, it's so sexy. But it would look weird on my parents 1960's style home. Got this nice, wooden door with amazing detail of patterns and there's this modern lock on it lol.

  • am I able to install this into my room?

    • As long as it's a solid core door you could.

  • So would, but I think it just doesn't fit the colours in my apartment which is a shame.

  • -1

I really wish the rest of the Western world would catch up with Asia's small life improvement tools.

Automatic toilets, automatic door locks, very well-made sinks with all types of functions, apartments that are always just decent.

    • +1

Half of Asia lives in abject poverty.

      • -3

What's your point? Are we playing the irrelevant facts game now? Half of America are non-white.

        • The point is that your dreaming about a fantasy.

apartments that are always just decent

          Sounds legit.

        • -1

          @Diji1:

Nope. Maybe I should have said North-east Asia or just "everywhere except Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos."

        • -2

@StoneSin: half of India shit on the streets.

        • -1

@Gizdonk: That's not a true fact. But it is irrelevant, you're getting there!

        • -1

          @StoneSin:

It takes not just an idiot but an arrogant fool to call someone else wrong when you are in fact completely clueless. Your fact is not true and my fact is true. I’d include the exclusion of North Korea in your advanced north-east Asia area.

          http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-india-17362837

          https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Race_and_ethnicity_in_the_Un…

Btw South Korea is beyond an identical rip off of the western world and none of what you listed originated in your very small area.

        • @Diji1: This is wrong. You mustn't have ever visited Asia.

        • @StoneSin: source?

    • -1

Are people really this delusional? lol white people

      • -2

Are people really this stupid, and let me guess, you can’t be racist to white people?

To see delusion, check a mirror.

  • Feeling dumb here … What does "Open on the right" and 'Open on the left" mean?

    Here is my door setup:

    xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxx
    ———-Door———- wall

So lock mechanism is on the right of the door - does that mean "Open on the right"?

    • +1

When you are inside, face the door if you are able to open the door with left hand with comfort then it's open on left.. If you are able to open the door with comfort then it's right hand door.

      • Are you sure it is when you are inside rather than being outside?

      • On the inside, I would open door with right hand.
On the outside, I would open door with left hand.

This is my door setup looking at it from the outside:

        xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxx
        ———-Door———- wall

So to be sure: using your tip, its "Open on the right"?

        • That is what I bought.

        • You are correct.

I bought the left hand opening door after watching the youtube video for atleast 5 times.
