Should put price in the title - $935.95
About $100 cheaper than HK ebay sellers. :)
Postage for me was $49. :/
eBay $977.80 shipped (item #290407348483) vs this deal at $984.95 shipped…
anyone interested in this lens needs to make double sure that it will work with their camera. The EF-S series lenses are not compatible with most of the full frame sensor DSLR's. Just check first.
Edited: Just had a quick google search…
"Any Canon EOS camera with a red dot on the lens mount can take EF lenses. Any Canon EOS camera with both a red dot and a white square on the lens mount can take both EF lenses and EF-S lenses."
i thought that was:
No… its not obvious to a lot of people mate, hence my warning. I have it on good authority direct from Canon that this is not as 'obvious' as you claim it to be. You'd be surprised how many people buy EF-S lenses for cameras that dont accept them… they just think that a Canon 77mm interchangeable lens will work with a Canon DSLR. A very common misconseption.
I took the time to post something CONSTRUCTIVE. How about you get off your pedestal for a bit and consider that not everyone is as camera smart as you (especially those that may be interested in such a lens). And do a google search, it might make you feel more special to realise how common an issue this is out there. Plenty of websites have this listed as part of their FAQ's as well.
example of cameras cannot take ef-s lens?
I see almost all recent Canon EOS dslr can use ef-s lens

1D & 5D not in the list !!???
This is the important quote from the wiki page linked to "attempting this on full frame Canon EF mount cameras would cause the mirror to collide with the rear lens element, potentially damaging the lens and/or camera."
The simple way of looking at it is… if it's a full frame sensor in the body then forget about trying to use an EF-S lens.
If you have a full frame sensor body then what are you doing buying a non L lens anyway.
Unless its a specialty lens like a super wide angle or something.
But it's a fair point you make to those who didn't realise.
I doubt a person who owns a full frame lens do not know the difference between a EF and a EF-S lens. LOL
Hmm it says on the site. Free shipping storewide when paying with Paypal?
*excluding direct shipping offers category, and promotional items :(
It excudes 'Direct Shipping Offers' which this deal is.
EDIT: beaten by 9 seconds. :(
Their Nikon 24-70mm is also quite cheap, only 710 shipped compared to about 1.8k from ebay sellers. Too bad it's not in stock.
Nice price! Shipping kills it for me though, just like it killed the GF1 deal last week. It was still cheaper than other places, but I've had a bad experience with SS in the past.
PS. Isn't it a $1 saving though, as opposed to 53%, since according to SS, they used to sell it for $936.95 lol
Save some money and get a Sigma 17-70mm f/2.8 IS can be purchased for around $450.
You get more zoom and the Sigma is as sharp or sharper as the canon. (Above 35mm the Sigma is noticeably sharper than the Canon lens)
the sigma 17-70 isn't constant f/2.8 - it's f/2.8-4.5.
but yes there are better value deals to be had with sigma, tamron, tokina etc.
From what I hear/read the Sigma for example can be a great buy… similar specs for much cheaper, but the quality control doesn't seem to be there so there is an element of chance as to what you will get. I have no first hand experience with that though. All I know is that genuine Canon L lenses are VERY sharp.
Not ALL L lenses are VERY sharp. I use Nikkor~~~
Hey guys, i am thinking of getting the 16-35mm L lens. Will i be taxed? Since it exceeds AUD1000?
Well if golf clubs are anything to go by this is the guide that I went by:
If using a courier
Anything over $250 is taxable. Depending on who the customs agent is at the time and how thoroughly they want to check the goods.
If using Postal Service (USPS, AUS Post etc)
Anything over $1000 is taxable. That is not to say that you will get taxed but customs has the right to tax you for both GST (which is cost + shipping cost) and then duty (% on cost only). I would bet that it will get taxed if its over $1000.
Just be careful if the sender uses anything like UPS, Fedex or DHL or the sorts then the threshold is much much lower then postal services.
That is what I could conclude from when I was importing golf clubs across from the states.
I could be wrong so feel free to correct me.

That is wrong and changed a long time ago.
The tax free limit is $1000 regardless of how you bring it in (Post or Courier)
it totally depends on which online shop you will buy from. DWI and Eglobaldigitalcameras are the two shops you should look at. i got my 16-35 VR (nikon's) yesterday without being taxed. check whirlpool forum
I thought I remember reading that dwi writes the cost of the package as less than what you paid for it (if it's above $1000)
If customs believe that the goods are values at more than the declared amount and that amount is more than $1000 they will still charge you tax.
On one thing you may get away with it but if you had lots of things with a low declared value it will probably be investigated.
I hate how their shipping rate is always double or triple that of others.
