Can you do any deals on Xiaomi Umbrellas? https://www.geekbuying.com/item/Xiaomi-Umbrella-Automatic-Fo…

Missed out on the gearbest one :(

Keen on the Wiha screwdriver kit.

Cheers. I'll add it to the to-ask list.

@Clear: and the Mi Band 2 as well please

        • I love this, very happy with it.

  • Looks like you need to buy the Bluetooth bedside lamp to connect the LCD temp sensor/display to your home network.

The lamp acts as the bridge between Bluetooth and WiFi.

  • +3

Note: You need a Miija Bluetooth hub for the Xiaomi Temperature Humidity Thermostat per the video https://youtu.be/q-VYxZtR-Dg?t=2m21s

The only Bluetooth hub available for this is the Miija Lamp at US$53.99 https://www.geekbuying.com/item/Xiaomi-Mijia-Bedside-Lamp-Wh…

Any chance of a great deal on that lamp? The Xiaomi Temperature Humidity Thermostat is basically useless without it

    • +4

Just needs a Bluetooth hub for the home automation functions. The device still works, displays data on its display and works with the app.

I'll see what I can do on the lamp.

      • Do these lamps also connect to the Mihome app for automation tasks? And does the Miband they mention in the description of the lamp? And do you know if you can use the motion sensors in the band to trigger automation - like two shakes turns on/off lamps?

        • The lamp connects to the Mi Home App. The video has an example of the home automation so you could create a rule with motion sensors.

    • +2

      I love lamp.

    • AUD $71.15 just so you can connect the sensor to the hub

      pretty expensive

      more cash grab for xiaomi.

          @Clear:
          Was he on "vice principals"

  • Really?? I got a Xiaomi bedside lamp as well, but I never knew it also connect with wifi?? Was the lamp showed in the video an updated model?

      • +1

That is the old one - the old one was the Yeelight version, that has a silver base, and the Xiaomi logo. The second gen one (which is required for this) has the golden/rose gold base, with the Mijia logo.

        • That's correct. I figured most people would have the old version made by Yeelight and not Xiaomi.

        • @Clear: Yes.. I have the old one… Thats a shame!! :(

        • @lostinsydney: Yeah Yeelight make products for their own branding and the Xiaomi MiJIA brand.

        • @lostinsydney: Correct - but only the newer one has the feature that lets it be a bluetooth device hub.

        • @burkey: Yes, I'm aware of that.

        • Does that mean it can control the two bluetooth candelas I got on kickstarter? I love them but without automation they have less use.

        • @bxpressiv: I don't think they are using latest Bluetooth radio in candelas but you can ask this question in their forum.

          https://blog.bluetooth.com/introducing-bluetooth-mesh-networ…

        • Here's what they had on their kickstarter, not sure if the lamp is one of the bridges they're talking about.

Can Candela be controlled by Alexa?
It will be able to control by Alexa in the future.
Candela is Bluetooth based, currently it can't support Alexa by itself alone. But we are planning to develop a Bluetooth-WiFi bridge, which can help Yeelight Bluetooth devices access network. This upcoming bridge will make Candela compatible with current cloud infrastructure which was designed for Wi-Fi devices. Work with this Bridge, Candela will be able to support Alexa, IFTTT, Google Home etc.

        • @bxpressiv: Ask them in forum http://forum.yeelight.com/
Yeelight staff are pretty active on form.

It's all very confusing. I have the Xiaomi zigbee gateway. Will this connect to that? I thought that was the hub for all Xiaomi products?

    • I'm not 100% certain, but I think you need a bluetooth gateway for this sensor, which can then integrate the sensor into the rest of the ecosystem.

    • No. I saw the video and am a bit disappointed. Looks like Xiaomi are tyring to create another ecosystem of products which use Blutooth instead of Zigbee or Zwave.
Only advantages for consumer I can think of is less interference with 2.4Ghz band and also ability to directly communicate with smartphones.

    • +2

The gateway is the hub for all Xiaomi ZIGBEE protocol products.. but this is one of their first Bluetooth products so requires a Bluetooth hub. Which connects to WiFi. Which connects to the Gateway for Zigbee devices.

ZIGBEE DEVICE (eg Temp or Motion sensor) -> GATEWAY -> HOME WIFI <- WIFI/BLUETOOTH HUB (eg lamp) <- BLUETOOTH DEVICE (eg LCD thermostat)

      • this is so dumb,

so we now need another hub just for these Bluetooth devices…

        sounds like another cash grab..

They could have just made these devices use wifi..

        • Both Bluetooth and WiFi will use substantially more power than ZigBee.

    • +8

Luckily Xiomi provides great manuals and information about their products 😂

  • I'm inclined to buy the Tronsmart headphones, I've got a charger from them and it is very good quality, but I can't find a single review for it

    • It's a new release as of this week.

      • right-o. maybe they don't have the marketing strategy of sending the device to small-time youtubers to only write compliments about it :)

        • I should have been more accurate. It's a 2 day old release. They've already been sent out to reviewers.

GeekBuying get hold of Tronsmart gear early as they're a primary distributor and have close contact with their employees ;)

      • hey OP, trusting the reviews from its siblings and my trust on the brand, I have finally placed an order. Depending how quick it comes I might do a review of it :)

    • Same here. Their other earphones Encore S1 and S2 have mixbag reviews

  • Anyone with experience on the earbuds?

The reply to the comment above yours addresses your question

Does this wire into a home heater? That's generally what a thermostat does…. otherwise its just a thermometer.

    • The only real option at the moment is around $300 (nest) so at $20 for the same functionality its a steal. But I have a feeling it won't be wire in. Just remote control of A/C via IR is my guess.

    • you are completely missing the point of home automation. This does not wire into a heater, it provides information to you home automation setup to control the heater, in there example via a smart plug to turn it on and off.

      • -2

        Afraid not.

Who on earth has a plug in heater????? A uni student?

Heaters in the states and Australia are generally installed and use a thermostat (wired up to turn heater on and off).

Central heating isnt that common in China however - hence I believe this will only work with split systems via a/c.

        • +1

Who on earth has a plug in heater????? A uni student?

I know plenty of people in Sydney who use plug in heaters - they're not ideal but you only need them for a few weeks each year.

        • Really…. I suspect a lot of people who don't live in luxury accommodation have plug in oil heaters….. I also suspect it's the most common form of heating. Given the number for sale every winter.

Heaters in Australia are rarely hardwired. This is a country that just hit 47 degrees in Sydney this week.

Aircon is more commonly hardwired. But heaters… I think you are confusing Australia with the US or the UK.

Now some aircon you will say heats as well? True, but if you frequent ozbargain you can't afford to hear your home using the air-conditioning…

        • @fefris:

Yeah, I guess I am assuming to an extent. In Victoria everyone has a heater.

        • @fefris: IMO, most homes in Victoria have those hired wired heaters.

      • The nest and ecobee thernostats both do this by the way… Nest even detects your smartphone location and turns your heater off if you accidentally leave it on.

The problem is they are both at least $AUD 200+

        • And the nest is not sold here, is not compliant to Australian electrical standards and illegal to install… But apparently from that…..

        • @fefris: Guess the same would apply for this then….

        • @Wallyt99:

Nope this DC current battery powered So completely allowed.

The powerplug for the heater you could get a wemo and they are apporved and ten automate via home assistant. :)

  • Saw this on gearbest website other day when it had a flash sale but was fence sitting. But pulled the trigger now another to add to my xiaomi collection

    • how much did it cost on gearbest with the sale?

      • Can’t remember to be honest, it was a few weeks ago

Need a Xiaomi fridge and washing machine~~

    • +3

Which Xiaomi actually have in multiple sizes. The mini fridge and mini washing machine are both pretty cool.

      • Perfect for an apartment in Sydney!

      • +2

The mini washing machine is soooo cute I wanna buy one even though it is impractical and I have a perfectly good one already

        • +1

China have produced so many things perfect for apartments. This dishwasher will fit on your bench and even has WiFi so you can control it and see it's progress with an app!

        • +1

China has a lot of adventurous products, most things here are very vanilla

        • +4

@Clear: My life goal is to have ALL my home appliances made by Xiaomi!

        • @HarveySpecter: They sell food and wine in their Home stores!

      • +2

Seriously where can I get these bad boys? Need to add these to my Xiaomi home collection~~

  • Need a deal for the Tronsmart Encore S2, bluetooth earphone like the Encore Flair always seem to get weighed down to one side by the 'remote'

    • hmm good point. you have experienced it yourself?

  • Op, please deal on Xiaomi Rob Vac gen 1 and Yeelights please (v2 if we can). -thanks

    • +1

Shipping on the Xiaomi Vacuum is normally the deal breaker. The RGB Yeelight bulbs are out of stock currently, but more should arrive soon. Only have stock left on the Aircon Kit.

      • +1

The Aircon kit is interesting :)

        • Is that a hint? lol

        • +1

          @xev:

A hint to spend more $$$ lol

        • The only thing that is stopping me from spending more $$$ on the Xiaomi Temperature Humidity Thermostat is that I would have to buy the Xiaomi bedside lamp as well. And I am not going to do that (today)

      • +1

Aren't some (all?) the air con plug in modules designed for a 15A socket (oversized earth pin) so won't fit in standard 10A power points ?

        • Perhaps in Australia, but these devices are designed for the Chinese market. It would work well with smaller aircon units and possibly even the Xiaomi Smartmi aircon range.

        • @Clear: as long as it fits in a 10A power socket

  • There's some serious love towards Xiaomi, some of their products are good but it's starting to feel a tad artificial seeing every conceivable product upvoted to stardom.

    Let the downvotes smother me

    • +2

I love their products, even though I've actually had some issues with initial setup for a lot of the electronics.

  • +1

    cant resist Xiaomi products

  • The headset look nice, with 12 hours battery life, however is the headset designed for alien with big head? Why it has such a long cable? It just need to go from left ear to right ear, that's it.

  • Edit: all good

    • You need to apply the coupon in the post.

  • Thanks got one
