Astraweb $8 US/~$10.20 AU for 60 Days and Then $8 US Every Following 30 Days (Normally $15 US)

70

My news reader client was unable to download from the free Astraweb service that Internode offered. In the details, they said that Internode hadnt paid their bills and had this offer.

I have always found Astraweb to be good and they have both US and EU servers.

From the deal page:
$4 first 2 months
$8 every month after
No Speed Limits
No Download Limits
Exactly the same as Unlimited DSL Plan
You will pay $8 for every month as long as your subscription remains active. We will not raise the price.
Pay with either Visa / MasterCard
Normal price: $15 - Special $8!

  • The Internode usenet has some issues (it works but is up and down in speed). I think they are working on it.

It's been useless for 2-3 years now. I switched over to a paid Usenet service (Giganews) and never looked back.

Considering its been working fine up until last month, I find that hard to believe.

Oh yeah? The reduced retention, reduced number of concurrent connections, SSL broken…

But it's hard to believe, okay.

          @Dagmar:

Internode one never offered SSL anyway so your point is irrelevant. I for one enjoy the free usenet, yes I have a paid block account which Ive barely used anything thanks to the Internode one

          Ignorance at its finest.

I was an Internode customer for 12 years. I know what I'm about.

        • @Dagmar: and I'm still an internode customer after 10 years. What's your point?

        • +1

@Dagmar: Sorry, but I think you’re mistaken as Internode have never offered SSL.

Better off going with XS Usenet for ~$2.87AU a month. Much better value.

    • Awesome! Many more articles for me to read up on calibrations

It has the best spam of anywhere, hands down. You will not find finer spam anywhere!

        • more importantly, spam relating to calibrations!

  • Just be aware the usual price of $US15/month they claim seems inflated.
The general undiscounted price of any quality provider is around $US10/month

Astraweb no good these days cheaper better elsewhere.

Saying that I still have a block account with them as a backup.

  • If you can live with 10Mb/s bandwidth limit the $20 per 3 months is a better deal than the normal Unlimited DSL.

I used to use it rather than the bandwidth unlimited version because I couldn't get more than 7Mb/s on ADSL1/2 anyway, it didn't really matter if it took a little longer to download (~4GB/hour), and it was the cheapest option.

  • Astra sold to UsenetXS in December. one of the last you would have ever thought to sell after the history of the company. Now just another highwinds arm.

I'd steer clear from this point on. Usenet is a dead end, binnews Morganelli decided owing MPAA 15 million dollars wasnt enough so he offered his services to instead dismantle binaries and is doing a pretty decent job of it

the PayPal ban did them in, plus the writings on the wall anyway…its time to get back to xdcc packs

anyone with a current Astraweb account can prove what I said by logging in on news.usenetxs.com with your astraweb details, also check the ip address you connect to will be eweka

    • Xdcc packs… Holy shit that's a blast from the past. Does that shit still exist? I think I'd rather pay for my content.

For anyone wondering, the Astraweb feed from Internode has been officially shut down.
