I was need of another one so I asked the rep who kindly provided a code for 50 units.

Thanks, does it have menu in english or only chinese?

    • There is an english version of the app. Must use app to change settings.

      • Link?

        • +1

the app called 70mai dash cam and it is an English version. I got it by scanning the SR code in the manual.

  • How long is the cable which comes in the box ?

    • +1

      3.5m

The battery worries me in our hot climate. If only this was a capacitor based, I'd be all over it.

    • Particularly with a forecast of 42 tomorrow in my hood.

      • If you order now, I doubt it will arrive this season, let alone tomorrow.

        • I think it will get hot in subsequent years, too.

        • @b2dz: if you can only afford to spend $40 on a dash cam you'll use over subsequent years then perhaps you should assess whether you actually need to spend that $40 on a dashcam or if it can go somewhere more useful.

        • @Putnum:True,makes
sense. I'll just wait for the viofo A series deal to come by. I need a secondary dashcam for the rear of the car.

        • @Putnum:

The site is called OzBargain. It's not about buying what you can afford. It's about finding bargains.

But hey if you want to spend $40 on a dashcam that will fail the next time we have a hot day, then go nuts. I'll wait for something else to come up.

      • +1

It's 43 in my area and rising. Bloody HOT!

    • Also the battery is, according to the manual listed below, only for recording the last video, when poer to the unit is cut off, they dnt recommend using it without the power being connected

This is confirmed by a user review at gearbest which says

I hope the next models would have a better battery to keep it on every time, not just while using the car.

So the "70 minutes" in the listing could be misinterpreted as being able to record for 70 minutes without power, which clearly it isn't capable of

      • It's actually called 70 MAI. Not sure why retailers are translating it to 70 minutes.

    • Oh, so it runs on battery? That's a fail for me. Need super-capacitor in hot Australian summer.

      • I guess it does not run on a battery. If I turn on my car, it starts to work. When I turn off my car, it stops recording. When I used my Gopro before, I need turn it off when I left my car, but this one, I just leave it.

        • +1

Read the description. It runs on 240mAh lithium-polymer battery, even when the car is turned on. It needs the car battery to constantly keeping it charged, otherwise running off the battery itself it will only last several minutes. The reason why it stops recording when you turn off the car is because car dash cam has this function called auto-on and auto-off when it senses power supply coming through the USB cable from the car. GoPro is an action cam, it's not built for as car dash cam, that's why it does not have the auto-on and auto-off feature.

  • A lot of reviews say only chinese voice and menus cannot be changed. Can you confirm it can be changed to English?

    • +1

No apparently an English voice version is being released by the manufacturer (not Xiaomi) but has not happened yet. App menu can be changed to English though.

      • Yes, I can confirm all chinese, if you want the voice activation to work you'll need to speak in Mandarin with a Beijing accent…..as someone who only speaks english, this is quite challenging.

  • Ive been waiting for mine since NOV 30th last year and it still hasn’t arrived from GearBest. Already tried contacting them but no reply!
Did a PayPal dispute and then they replied with a standard copy pate answer of here is the tracking number, which I already knew the number but there is no movement in it’s status.

Was then asked to wait longer and so I did… it’s Jan 7th… and still waiting…

    • Same boat. Status says it’s been stuck in Sydney since December

      • I just checked again and the status also says in Sydney but since 9th Dec….

Wonder if these dashcams have issues through customs

        • +3

Forget customs, it's Aussie Post that you have to be worried about, probably sitting at Chullora like many other parcels. I have a few items that have taken 3 months to be delivered, while others arrive in 3 weeks. Even packages from Sydney stay in Chullora for a week (according to AP's own tracking sites), so dont get too stressed, you have a few weeks more to go.

Remember AP employees had an extra day off over christmas, because they had been working so hard.. Tell that to any other retail based employee and they'd laugh, while grimacing at the same time.

Great to work for a government enterprise, all pay, no responsibility..

        • because some sellers on these sites use consolidated freight , especially the dress shipping , to keep costs down it will be in a container somewhere between china and sydney ……tracking effectively stops once it’s in a container until it’s unloaded and scanned again.

        • +1

Not a customs issue. I ordered from LITB and it came in less just over 2 weeks.

        • @RockyRaccoon: I hate Chullora Hub. Almost all of my orders come from China/HK get stuck in this Sh!thole.

        • Is that the sky56.net tracking they gave you? I had another item coming from Gearbest and it said it arrived in Australia on 2 Dec 17, I received it last week. If yours says it arrived in Australia on 9th Dec, I suspect it'll arrive this week.

Dunno why it seems to sit around for so long, but I eventually got my parcel.

I use Priority Line now when possible, that is super quick and not that expensive if your item is USD $20 or more. Cheap $2 items generally they want $6-7 for priority line which makes it not worthwhile in those instances.

        • OK my dash cam arrived today, EVEN though tracking status STILL says its processing in Sydney.

          Revoked my neg.

This is what I got from them from the second response. Told them 7-14 business days is not acceptable. I’ll see what they come back with.

Ive been waiting for mine since NOV 30th last year

Last year I had a parcel that showed it arrived in sydney on the 4th of January, it wasn't delivered until April 6. In my case it was a low value item worth a couple of dollars.

In any case , I certainly don't think you can blame the seller once it gets to Australia.

    • I have received it last week. It's pretty simple and easy to use. The only thing is you need say some Chinese, because it accepts voice command, but except you don't want to use it. It's a metal body so the quality seems good. The wifi real-time video could have a little bit latency(less than one second maybe). The video chips were saved in every one minute, so it is easy to find the one you want to look back. In this price, I can't complain anything.

      • It's a metal body

It's actually plastic, but it is a quality finish.

    • Did you choose free shipping? If so, it's advertised as 15-28 business days.
By my rough calculations that's around 15 Jan. Why have you opened a PayPal dispute when its not even late yet?

      • +2

I put my order on 29/11/2017 and received it last week.

  • Thanks OP. I hope it works with the Mazda CX-5’s USB ports as the cigarette outlet apparently is on all the time rather than just when the car is on

    • won't that drain the car battery if the camera is always on?

      • That’s my dilemma. If the USB ports are the right voltage/ amperage for this Camera then all is good because they only run when the car is on. If I have to plug it into the cigarette outlet the yes that will drain the battery (hence not an option)

        • Is that an older model CX-5?

I don't think I've seen an always on cigarette lighter in a new car, (from Australia or Asia), since before 2007 when the current AS came in, (and even before that).

European made cars I've driven have mostly been always on, (they used to pull the fuses for the lighter socket in rentals so you couldn't use it - always had to carry a spare fuse around to I could charge the phone/batteries/etc).

        • @4wd: it’s a 2016 cx5. It’s cigarette lighter outlet is located in the centre console which is also not a great location for plugging into. I might have to wire it up to the fuse box

        • @Lizard Spock: Wiring into the fuse box is the way to go. Just did mine 3 days ago and it looks neat just like if came out of the factory.

        • @Volution: from what I have read and watched I have concluded that I need a 12V to 5V USB converter hook up the black wire to a bolt on the body of the car and the red wire to a fuse using this. Then use a fuse that is only on when the car is on. Can anyone confirm I have understood the method correctly?

        • +1

          @Lizard Spock:

Looks good to me. You’ll want a 5 amp fuse in there and cable 22 or lower AWG.

        • @LoopyLou: thanks heaps LoopyLou!

        • +1

@Lizard Spock: Make it simpler like i did. Get this kit(kust make sure your dashcam power input(mini usb or micro usb). In my case it is mini usb as per the link. And yes, wire the -ve black cable to the bare metal body and the +ve red cable to the fuse wire kit. Then you need to find the fuse that turns off when the ignition turns off. I hook up to the washer fuse in my Honda and never piggy back the fuse to vital fuse like ABS, computer trip, engine related fuses. Good luck.
          https://m.ebay.com.au/itm/Vehicle-Dashcam-Hardwire-Power-Ada…

        • @Volution: oh wow, that’s even better. Thanks heaps volution. I think this dash cam the op has posted has a micro USB

        • +1

@Lizard Spock: You're welcome. Glad i can help out a fellow ozbargainer. If you got any further questions, hit me up on PM. Good luck with your project.

  • I just tried to purchase one of these. Logged into my account The price was $42, applied the coupon and the price went UP to $63 !

    • same, applied coupon, price went up to $63.45…. HOWEVER, a $28.99 fixed price coupon applied with a sub-total of $38.58 is the amount payable

  • Seems it cant be registered using the app with a wifi tablet coz you need to be connected the wifi of the dash cam so then your tablet aint connected to the internet !

    • You don't need to be connected to the internet to register the dash cam in the app.

      • It seems the iOS app ain't as functional as the android app then.
