        • Sent them a DM so hopefully they see it before the deal expires.

    • It's working now.

    Additional 100pcs added!

    • Thanks, any chance Rose Gold could be added to the promo? thanks.

      • Asked a few days ago and they said no. I've asked them again ;)

  • +2

Anyone had their phone sent out yet?

    • Would also like to know this.

I ordered yesterday, have not heard anything back.
Did you get a tracking number?
I googled around and there's a lot of neg feedback on geekbuying.. a bit worried atm.

      • I ordered on the 7th. Ordered before and had stuff come be sent out next day.

This is the first time its taken a week

      • It does say 2-7 business days to ship.

    • Nope.. ordered on the 7th, still no word.

    • I also ordered on the 7th. Order is still listed as "payment confirmed". Hopefully it ships soon.

      • Don't want to scaremonger but a quick Google shows a lot of shenanigans with geekbuying. Not sure if its worth saving 20 bucks over.

        • I'd say give them until late next week if you ordered on Monday. 2-7 business days can be nearly 2 weeks.

    • Same here. Ordered on the 7th and website says "Payment Confirmed (Processing)". I'm starting to regret this …

      • Yep also ordered on 7th and still in process. I too am starting to regret this…

Not sure of the point of Express shipping if it takes this long to process. Any thoughts Ron?

        • 7th is still only 5 business days. Hopefully they ship early next week.

      • Mine is also still processing, One of the advantages of this deal was getting it quicker but that seems to be going out the window :(

  • +3

Express shipping pending 10 days processing. Well played geekbuying, well played.

Does anyone know if there's anyway to cancel an order and get the money back? I used Paypal.
By the comments of the OP I was counting with that phone by the end of this coming week, now I highly doubt it will happen. He even wrote that phone was in stock.
I'm not liking this at all ….

    • +1

No we are boned, serves me right for being tight over such a small amount.

Ultimately we would need to wait the X amount of days then raise a dispute.
Never know they might come through i'll give them til end of next, lets see what happens.

      FYI https://www.reddit.com/r/Xiaomi/wiki/general/purchase

That link is a bit concerning. Would this phone in particular be at risk of a reseller ROM considering it's a stock Android? Any sure way to find out? If I had known Geekbuying had this reputation I wouldn't have bought the phone…

        • Yes - that is concerning. I would've gone with Gearbest if I'd read that reddit link before purchasing.

        • +1

GeekBuying don't load reseller ROMs. There was an issue years ago (Redmi Note 2 era) that affected all resellers (BG, Gearbest etc.) where the suppliers were loading third party ROMs. Geek's listings will mention if they have Xiaomi's Global ROM or not.

        • +1

@Clear: Thanks Clear. First time buying a phone from overseas so just wasn't sure. That definitely puts my mind at ease. I don't mind waiting a bit for postage but dealing with reseller ROMs would be a huge headache.

  • @clear is a rep or associate…wonder if he can shed any light on the delay?

    • I'll find out.

      • Any news?

        • +2

Just said in another comment I'm still trying to find out. Contacted their management for an answer on the delay. I'll let people know once I hear back today.

        • @Clear: Thanks mate

  • I ordered a rose gold model for my wife on the 8th and it is still listed as payment confirmed. Doesn't fill me with much confidence for Geek Buying.

  • +1

    My order just shipped.

    • +2

      Mine too!

      • +1

        Me three

    • Hmm my order said it "shipped" late on the 15th, but the Auspost tracking shows it still hasn't been scanned in yet. Has your tracking updated?

      • No, mine is the same!

        • +1

Asked live chat: "sorry for the delay ,we will contact the shipping company to speed up the updated and shipment". Will keep an eye on it. I'm not filled with confidence, but we'll see. Don't think I'll be seeing the phones for a few more weeks.

        • @Symbiotic: No, it's a bit worrying.

      • +1

Mine’s the same. I have a tracking number but Aus Post indicates that there’re are no updates on the order’s movement:-(

  • Thanks placed an order - Was struggling to make a real difference between Mi 5X and this one but looks like just the Android.

  • I've just bought a black one on eBay for $304 delivered in a week and with 1yr local warranty.

    • Another seller with items marked as Sydney stock, but the seller is actually in Hong Kong. Maybe they have a warehouse in Australia, but more than often than not these sellers don't. The test is to ask them for a GST receipt for TRS. I wish eBay would crack down on overseas sellers being allowed to sell items as local stock.

      • If they deliver in a week and offer local warranty, what difference does it make?

        • +1

No difference really, except they can't offer a GST tax receipt. I just don't think it's fair on Australian eBay sellers that overseas sellers are allowed to set their location as Sydney when it's really Hong Kong.

A couple of years ago I bought 2 DJi phantom 3 batteries from "Melbourne" stock with a "1 year warranty". Couldn't get TRS because they couldn't provide a GST receipt; they were based in Hong Kong. After 6 months one of the batteries developed a fault, and the company were a bit of a nightmare on eBay. PayPal sorted it out though.

Not saying any of this applies to your seller. I just think eBay should clamp down on it.

        • @Symbiotic: What's fairness got to do with it? This is the open market; whoever offers the best price and terms, wins.

        • @wisdomtooth: What do you mean? The example I gave is false advertising. If the seller says they're based locally then they should be based where they claim they're based, they should able to provide a GST receipt (if turnover is > the threshold), and they should be able to offer the "local" warranty they claim to offer.

If those terms are met then game on. However they're not met… they're based in Hong Kong. So they should list as an international seller like they actually are.

If they have a local warehouse then I agree that it's all fair game, but they often don't.

        • @Symbiotic: If to claim the warranty, they offer the client to mail the product to a local address, it's a local warranty. Even Apple will mail out products overseas to be fixed or replaced.

        • +1

@wisdomtooth: Alright mate this is quickly getting boring and I apologise for starting it. Yes, they can provide a local warranty. I’m not disputing that. All I’m saying is I personally feel like if I’m filtering on “Australia only” on eBay it should just return results for Australian sellers that are based in Australia, who can provide me with a GST receipt to claim tax back and what not. Evidently you disagree. That’s fine.

Enjoy your phone because although they’re both coming from Hong Kong I suspect yours will arrive about 4 weeks earlier!

        • +1

@Symbiotic: Actually, I was mightly pleased it to receive it today, 3 days from purchase! (via DHL)

        • @wisdomtooth: Thats great to hear such quick turn around time. How is the phone performing? You happy with it?

        • +1

@durbs: Fantastic! Just bought another one for my wife (she was very jealous!) for $299 – 5% discount + FREE shipping (via DHL), totalling $285 (same seller).

We are both coming from aged iPhone 5's (in no small part due to Apple's idiotic attempt to make people upgrade to their own products by deliberately slowing them down, under the false pretence of saving battery). The hardware seems very solid, the pictures are awesome — (especially in portrait mode! though perhaps not at night, but we just had a baby, so nights are not really where our action is). And I just got Oreo today, as the Mi A1 runs with stock Android.

        • +1

@wisdomtooth: And I'm pleased to say the already DHL'd it yesterday, on the very same day!

        • +1

@wisdomtooth: I jumped ship and went with the eBay store you recommended, and used the 5% off code. The phones arrived very quickly. As you say it's well worth the few extra dollars for the warranty. Thanks for the tip-off!

  • Order just shipped. Very misleading to say it had a 5-8 day shipping time. It's been 7 business days since I placed the order.

    • @Clear: Can you please clarify, mate?

    • +1

Shipping time actually refers to the time it'll take to arrive when it's dispatched. Processing time is separate and listed under the Add to Cart button.

In the case of this phone there were some delays unfortunately, but all orders are shipping now.

      • Actually, you list "Shipping Time" Under the add to cart button.

Very shonky setup if even the rep can't get it right.

        • You're right, the wording is wrong - it should say processing instead of shipping. It's supposed to mean that'll it'll ship in 2-7 days and then the actual shipping is what the method says at checkout.

        • +3

@Clear: What exactly needs to be processed?
          1) Receive order
          2) Check payment (automatic with paypal)
          3) Get item from inventory
          4) Pack and post
          5) 1 week+? WTF?

        • @crunchynuts:

I'm really trying to give this company chance, but as time goes by I think this will be my first and last order from Geekbuying. At this stage I just hope the phones arrive before my folks leave Australia on the 3rd of February. With the 5-8 day shipping I though the phones would arrive next week (2 weeks after ordering) so I could give them as a gift. I don't think that will happen. Apparently the shipping company have had it for 3 days, but they haven't scanned it in yet. Could be true but there's no way to tell.

The cynical part of me thinks this is how it is playing out:

          0) Advertise item as in stock
          1) Receive order
          2) Check payment (automatic with paypal)
          3) Mark item as shipped to get customers off their backs
          4) Generate Australia post shipping details
          5) Wait for stock to arrive
          6) Book into warehouse
          7) Get item from inventory
          8) Pack and post

        • @Symbiotic:
You couldn't have described it better. Totally agree with you.
Mine as others says "shipped" but when tracked shows nothing. First and last time I bought from Geekbuying, I just hope a do receive a real phone.

  • Hello, i am following this thread closely as i have also purchased on of these phones and am waiting. I contacted them and they did say they will be getting more stock of the black within the week but have the gold in stock.
Out one curiosity has anyone ordered from dwidigitalcameras online store? They seem to have plenty stock at a good price.

    • My advice would be to steer well clear of DWI cameras and Geekbuying. DWI get terrible reviews online, and I wish I’d looked into the Geekbuying reviews before I ordered. Maybe try the eBay store @widsomtooth used. I’ve never had any issues with GearBest either.

      • Thanks for the advice, looks like ebay might be the way to go for this one.

@wisdomtooth can you confirm all was in order with your delivery? Thanks

  • +1

So they clearly lie about processing times, whether items are in stock and even if items are posted. Three days to update item has been scanned is nonsense. Suckered in by the quick post in the title. Will not be trusting @clear or geek buying again.

    • @Clear: Please clarify on this, mate.

      • -1

This is exactly what I'm trying to get from GeekBuying. I'll update people when I know.

        • Hi @clear. Have you received any response to your query? Little bit of info might help alleviate some concerns. Cheers.

        • -2

@humpda: I've sent an email to the very top to clarify.

Have you received the tracking number? Might be worth checking it on 17track.net as it's possible that Auspost tracking doesn't work until it's in Australia. It's happened with others before.

        • @Clear:
Cheers @clear. I appreciate your help. I realise that this is a Geek Buying issue and that you are kind of caught in the middle.

        • @humpda: Yeah that's right. Something like this hasn't happened in a very long time and should never have happened in the first place. Thousands of orders get shipped out without issue from my deals here every month.

        • @Clear:
Unfortunately no joy with 17track. Returns number not found or not in system. Cheers

        • -1

@humpda: Thanks. Can you please try this one too? https://www.dpex.com/

        • @Clear: I’ve tried plugging in my tracking number to 17track.net, dpex.com and Australia post. No events on any of them.

        • @Clear: Nada from dpex.com…returns message: No tracking information exists for this consignment. Please contact our customer service department for further details.

        • @humpda: Thanks. Was just trying to rule out Auspost not updating their tracking properly.

    • Same here. Glad I paid with Paypal.

      • Yes I’m also glad I paid with PayPal.

  • +2

Summary don't buy unless you are ok with potentially a 4-6 week wait.

  • +3

Still no update on tracking….arrrggghhhh. What is the trigger date for opening a PayPal dispute? “Delivered Fast”appears to be somewhat of a misnomer :-(

    • +2

I just raised one. Not a fan of being lied to in order to secure a sale, especially when time is a key reason why I bought from this group.

      • Yeah the communication is extremely poor on all fronts. Still no updates to the tracking. Think I will raise a PayPal dispute too.

  • “Shipped” on the 15th and no movement on the Australia Post tracking on the 19th…

  • +3

Yeah what they do is just send in a pickup request to get a tracking number. To buy time to get stock and appease customers. Reverse the payment and warn others of this dodgy practice.

@Clear you really should stop advertising for geek buying on here you are just hurting Australian consumers. For the small percentage that do get through good luck but be warned. Due diligence and a few searches even on reddit reveals much about this shamble.

I naturally expect delays from a Chinese company but when you select an instock item with express shipping and have been told explicitly by an associate @Clear that it will be shipped fast. It's just not right. No consumer laws apply or anything equates to us sucking it up.

Note they put up a notice on their PayPal to say they won't be responding over the Chinese New Year break which is soonish.

I will be negging these deals in the future.

  • I bought another Mi A1 from this web recently

      More lying.

  • +1

    Delivered Fast

I recommend this to a in law. His tracking still isn't working. Obviously GeekBuying is yet another lying scum bag Chinese seller.

Does no business in that country have any business ethics?

@Clear, you shouldn't associate with this mob.

    • -2

How about we wait until a weekday to see what the tracking does? Weekends aren't business days.

      • -1

How about they don't hand out fake/non-active tracking numbers. Don't mark it as shipped if it hasn't.

If it actually ships tomorrow, that will be past the promised processing time, so my neg still stands.

        • My point is the tracking might update then. Since it's marked as shipped you'll be right if it exceeds the advertised shipping time.

        • +1

          @Clear:

My point is, if it actually shipped when they claimed it shipped, it would of updated last week (during business days). Handing out 'pending' tracking numbers to fake a shipment, is the old trick in the book of Chinese sellers.

        • -1

@PainToad: Then we shall see when the advertised shipping time has been exceeded.

        • @Clear: You’ve mentioned several times that you’ve contacted Geekbuying’s upper management. What has the response been?

        • +1

I just spoke to online chat at Geekbuying and even they admitted the tracking isn't showing events. They told me they would 'contact the shipping company to update the tracking and speed the delivery'. Which is super helpful…

        • +1

          @quarkz:

contact the shipping company to update the tracking and speed the delivery

It's hard for the shipping company to improve the speed of delivering something that actually hasn't shipped.

First and last time dealing with these people.

        • @PainToad: Agreed. I'm trying to bail out. I emailed a cancellation request with a list of reasons and received a reply ignoring my request "it is in transit with a slow update and we are checking the delay reason". A different story to the one the live chat agent spun me.

Have raised a PayPal dispute and escalated it too.

If this sales support I don't want to experience a return "process".

        • @Symbiotic: Fair play to them - they've just confirmed they will refund within 48 hours.

        • @Symbiotic: Did they say anything about returning the phone if you get a refund? Assuming it's been sent out. Could be quite telling on whether it has actually been sent.

        • +1

@Yuri Lowell: No they didn’t mention that, but I did wonder about that! Doesn’t tie in with a product that is en route…
