    up to 16 devices connected

    Good luck with that.

    • +2

16 ESP8266 modules. You can do the test for us.

      • That's some home automation thing?

        • Do a wemos d1 or nodemcu package deal for us clear! go on! 16 for $25 USD delivered. I'll do the test.

        • @kiwijunglist: That's a surprise, LITB actually stock the nodemcu. AliExpress/eBay are still going to be your best friend for these.

        • +1

Pretty much. Can also use it in Arduino/Pi projects or just to make robots.

        • Thanks @Clear, sweet as candy!

  • +1

is this good for the upstairs / downstairs problem.

    • +4

Yes. I've used them before just at the top of stairs without issue.

      • When you turn off your modem/router and turn it back on after one night. Does yours reconnect?

        • +1

Good question… I'm not sure as I stopped using mine when I decked out the house with Ubiquiti and usually don't turn my routers off.

        • +1

          @Clear:
          Thanks anyways,
I had a issue where mine never reconnected to my router after I turned it off for a night. Had to reconnect it the xiaomi app all the time.

        • @BrodenIt: Weird. Why not just leave your router on?

        • @Clear:
Mines old, if I keep it on too long, speed decreases. However, when I give it a rest the speed goes back up. Not sure if i have a shit router or tpg is playing games with me :(

        • +1

@BrodenIt: Sounds like you don't have NBN? Old ADSL routers do that.

        • @Clear:
Yup I do, NBN build was said to start 3 weeks ago and still nothing. Website even says build has commenced, what bs! :(

        • @BrodenIt: Unlucky. I've been rocking FTTP for years /brag

        • @Clear:
Forgot to mention that mine was hfc. Even more unlucky.

        • +2

My Place, in the CBD of a capital city, was supposed to get NBN in 2016, now its 2019.

Even more frustrating is that 50m away are getting theirs activated now.

        • @xev:
Ye, it seems the areas that are far from the city get nbn first.

        • +1

I believe it was part of the deal Labor had to do to pass it the legislation, with members of remote areas worried the NBN would run out of money or interest before their towns would get connected they had to agree to do a 'scattershot' roll out instead of doing the sensible and faster thing and starting in major cities and working their way out.

So even under Labor the NBN had their hands tied to the post before the Liberals came along and well and truly 'Routed' it.

Hi @BrodenIt, maybe use a timer (Analogue or Smartplug) and set it for 15 minutes, that should be enough (remember to use a timer and do not turn off/on your modem/router remotely as you lose access to the network completely and won't be able to turn it back on remotely) or access your router settings page in a browser and reset it from there when necessary?
Ps: I just checked it for you. It automatically reconnected after a random 5 minutes disconnection break. Upon reconnecting I went ahead and tried to reach my original router settings page from the repeater network with different SSID, and somehow it magically gave me access to that private page. If it keeps this state steady, it gets 10 out of 10 from me. I will use the new one that I bought, to divide internet/network access for devices in different rooms to stop them messing with one another and the main router hopefully! That was my main problem that a device would shut down the entire network hopefully they will get stuck in a sub-network now and don't flood the whole system (fingers crossed).
          Thanks again.

Coming as $6.45 USD with coupon applied

    • +1

Do you mean AU? I based the price off the current exchange rate as LITB's AU rate will be inflated.

batrarobin explains how to get closest to the exchange rate in his post

    • +1

edit: need to buy one only :)

      • +2

Ahh that makes more sense. Don't get too greedy.

  • +1

Thanks Clear, now I have one for the back of the house and the front of the house.

    Tracked shipping is a bonus!

  • +1

Do these create a new ssid? Or somehow extend the one you have?

    • They create a new SSID (original name with "_Plus" appended).

      • Thanks. Probably not suitable for smaller spaces as the would keep switching from one ssid to another.

Hmmmm. Might need to buy mesh

        • You can match the SSID, hide it and use it in roaming mode
What are the benefits of having mesh?

        • @pal: mesh does seamless connection between APs.
with a repeater, depending on how smart your phone/PC is to detect the signal/how far you are from the router/repeater, there is a risk
for the connection to be constantly switching from one to another, or not switching at all.
mesh would make the change from node to node seamless "supposedly"

        • Thanks for the reply @elcheapoinoz, I would say that's what the repeater does, it just repeats the network like a mesh. The rest of the explanation is the definition of marketing. I have couple of routers that I set them up as extenders like the "mesh" but my $6 Xiaomi repeater 2 outperforms the $200+ "mesh". Thanks for the explanation I wasn't sure what was the craze for.

Noob question… Will this work if am using my ipad's hotspot (thanks to the optus recent deal) as the home main internet?

    • I don't believe this will work mobile hotspot.

    • Yes, if your concern is the dynamic IP, it should work no matter what router you use the inbound/outbound in house connection shouldn't be affected. Where inbound connections from outside with dynamic IP would be a bit of disappointment. Which has nothing to do with this repeater/extender
Do you have problem with that Dynamic IP?

  • +1

So you have to power this by a USB port? But it just needs power via USB right so could be plugged into the mains?

    • +2

Correct, one can use a mains 5v mobile style powerplug that has a USB output.

  • +1

So many Xiaomi products. All I want is a temperature sensor

    • +2

I want xiaomi body thermometer, the one with laser so no need to touch skin. Now around $32 I want it $25 - 28

      • They are around $10 on ebay. Doesn't need to be Xiaomi

        • But I trust xiaomi will have better quality

        • @dragonindespair: Oh, do you really think all these Xiaomi stuff are made by the same company? It's very interesting way of thinking of how branding works in business.
I bought one IR thermometer for $15 on ebay, works like a charm. Most of Xiaomi products do not work flawlessly anyway.

        • @pal: yes i am aware they are xiaomi sub companies. alright, please share the link of your ir thermo i will have a look…. thanks

      • Dont get the jaycar one i did and half the screen has disappeared and of course i can not find the receipt.

        • seriously i feel jaycar is just like 2 dollars shops selling electronics.
one glance in the store and you can tell the quality of (MOST) their items.
          same like supercheap auto

we need shops selling xiaomi tronsmart, angker, blitzwolf, baseus, etc in australia

    Thanks clear.
You also bought one (more) of this?

    • Already own one, but have no use for it.

      • whups then you should consider sell it to me for more disc:) i kind of need it urgently

  • +3

Come on guys and girls… buy this…support the store.

If this is from gearbest I'm sure 300 units will be sold out in an hour…

  • Sorry, your effective order subtotal need to be at least USD $ 4.00 in order to use this coupon. The following product(s) are not part of the effective order total because you can't use this coupon for them:
    Original Xiaomi Mi WiFi 3…

  • bought one - cost $6.72 AUD

  • Mine cost $7.39 AUD

    • uncheck insurance

      • Bugger too late..oh well. Cheap insurance!

  • Bought one, thanks OP!

  • Is it best to have this connected close to the router?

    • Why?
This is an extender where the network does not reach. Obviously the closer to the router the better internet speed if you can still connect but if you leave it next to the router and the router coverage outperforms the extender, then why bother unless you want to use for a different purpose as I explained above.

  • Hi Clear, any chance of a deal on this Xiaomi Bluetooth speaker for around $30?
    https://www.lightinthebox.com/xiaomi-xiaomi-bluetooth-speake…

    • Only works within Bluetooth range

    • I bought a few a couple of years ago, it's as shitty as it gets. All in the bin.
      Dead battery in two weeks.
      Setting of the alarm randomly.
      Lost connection randomly.
      Poor app.
Having said that. I tried better brands like Duet, they are not that much better. All in the bin, also.
Haven't seen anything that lasts 6-12 months claimed life.

      • +1

Kewl…Few bad reviews on site too…Thanks
Need a good WiFi tag I guess :)

        • Glad it was helpful.
They need to come up with a global protocol that connects all of these devices to a network for crowd finding.
I haven't come across a wifi version, they definitely need a central back end server for that to work but and be more reliable not sure about the battery life and range then. Maybe this technology will never be perfect.

  • I have one of these and it works a treat.
Other extenders I have tried do not compare.

  • Bought one for each room in my 4 bedroom house. Is that enough?

    • +1

      No.

You need 1 for each sq/m of your home.

    • we know you going to put one in each BATHroom not bedroom :D

  • Coupon no longer works.

  • Seems to be expired :( Saw this last night was hoping I'd be able to get one from work in the morning

  • +1

This has been a lifesaver for me, very much worth even the $10 I paid.

  • +1

Sorry, your coupon has exceeded the maximum limit for usage.

  • Any chance for more stock ?

    • +4

I'll ask once China wakes up

      • thanks for prompt reply and effort you are going to put :)

      • Any answer from China? :)

        • They're unable to extend it unfortunately

  • Bought from previous deal - had a quick look whilst tired over Xmas and I couldn't get it to work?
Any hints on how to set up
I googled and they said load the Xiaomi app and tell it I was in China
Maybe the app updated but I couldn't find the option and it was trying to set up a full router
Anyway - can someone post the simple step by step pretty please :)

  • Guys be careful buying from this seller ,do your research on rating websites and on the forum as well, plenty of bad reviews.

    • Everyone has bad reviews. Particularly from ignorant people buying from China and not understanding how it works.

We should all be avoiding OzBargain. Bad reviews

      • -2

We should avoid OZBargain if it does not guarantee a safe place where to choose our suppliers.
It does work when everyone is entitled with it's opinion and gives the wider public an unbiased view of the market. That makes it an effective tool for ppl to come together and buy stuff.
Whenever someone like you are doing here comes to censor with a deductive logic, which is how a priest would talk in a few word, Ozbargain loses his selling point.

        • -1

It's people like me who actually make OzBargain what it is. Deal contribution.

Bad reviews are welcome, but if I'm not mistaken the issue you had was that it took 10 days for your order to ship?

        • @Clear: Sure on one hand , on the other there is the group buying aspect of it otherwise this is no different from a marketing brochure. Anyway thanks for your interest in my case but after my experience(that, the unapologetic costumer service and the parcel still somewhere in the outer space) and going trough the rep section and a number of reviewers websites I do feel I should put it out there as a contribution to the community.
I just invite anyone to do their homework without taking anything away from you Clear. This has nothing to do with your contribution on this seller and I do appreciate your unbiased efforts.

        • @thedude23: Ahaha that's what happens when one's on ozbargain while reading sci-fi,my bad.

  • saw your comment and felt bad, happy 500th post!

  • Got mine in the mail today, it works great.

    Will definitely buy another soon
