      Why not? Never had an issue with mine over the last few years.

        Because Seagate has not had a good run on reliability lately - especially the 4TB drives - but I gather they are showing an improvement.

        WD seems to be showing better reliability figures at the moment. HGST looks to be the pick…. but that brand is expensive (and is now owned by WD)

          The issue was with an internal drive, these are an external drive and a different model.

          @Scab:
          External drives are worse than internal ones, by a lot. Manufacturers expect these to be seldomly on, and hence put the worst drives in.

          @demiurge:

          Disagree. Portable drives are completely different products

          Every manufacturer has duds, sure. And you must avoid them, sure.

        • @Scab: I agree there can be differences between models and I have had both Seagate and WD drives fail over the years. At the moment I would hesitate about Seagate even though they might be different models because the issues go across a number of models.

          As long as you back-up on a regular basis (& therefore have two copies - nearly up-to-date ) this might be okay. I have friends who lost all their kids' baby photos because of a dead drive so it depends what it is worth to you. I am trying Toshibas in an external enclosure at the moment. They cost about $30 more but they have a reasonable reputation and that is important to me. BTW I am a bit paranoid and have multiple backups and monitor disk health pretty closely.

      Can confirm. I'm currently using the Seagate 2TB Desktop Expansion drive that requires power for my PS4. Bought the 4TB one last week!

      • So you’re using them as an external drive not internal?

    Hellgate!
    but attractive price!

    I just used the code HAMZA and got a free Domino's pizza with my hard drive.

    the pizza will probably last longer

    As 4TB fills up in almost no time, went with an 8TB model from Amazon, its around $208 delivered in AUD from https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01HAPGEIE/ref=twister_B00UWL08GI?… this deal was posed previously on Ozbargain and is active again.

      This isn't a portable drive though. The one in the op is.

        Thats true, was thinking of a previous thread for 4TB drive.
