Ends: Friday, 2 February 2018 18:59 GMT+11:00 DST Ends 5 hours before listed closing date/time
Thanks Goldern :D
Argh closing time is 7pm so must be a west coast USA comp without checking. lol +11 is AEDT which appears to be the default Ozbargain standard also my timezone.
For gleam competitions I extract closing date/time from the gleam source data which may change on the odd occassion during a competition.
The manually method is to view the widget source code by clicking on the bottom section of the gleam widget near the terms and condtions1) Select view page source or frame source.
2) Search for "ends_at"
3) Copy the 10 digit unix data/time just to the right of "ends_at" eg 1517558399
4) Paste into https://www.epochconverter.com/
5) Click on the Timestamp to Human date
5) Use the date time from your local time for posting which may need a slight adjustment if not located in AEDTeg results for this competition
GMT: Friday, 2 February 2018 07:59:59
Your time zone: Friday, 2 February 2018 18:59:59 GMT+11:00 DSTTakes about two seconds to obtain. Just a note usually find three "ends_at" "ends_at"" should find only one in the section/class where gleam details are located.
Usually I'm posting on social media in GMT to various groups as well I'm not converting for every country.
I do have an automated method which extracts the gleam unix closing date and converts/displays to the required timezone.
My main problem is I don't seem to be able to get my brain working right of late (as displayed by 11:00 instead of 18:59 XD )… Normally I just wait till it's < 48 hours and then adjust (and adjust from ACDT).
Many thanks for the instruction :D I promise to try it as soon as I grow a brain cell or two, but it'll just have to sit in my notepad until then, lol.Actually the location data is in the time_zone_offset_seconds as the competition doesn't necessarily have to end at midnight thou most do. eg -28800 i.e. -8 GMT which suggests USA PST . Also I think there details are email thou still need to convert back to AEDT which gets confusing with worldwide daylight savings. There shouldn't be any issues with daylight changes worldwide as all gleam date/times are in GMT/UTC in unix date time. ie. seconds since 1/1/1970 I think.
Yeah I've spent too much time dealing with global competition closing times when developing an automated method.
lmao. Just wait when DST changes in various places around the world at different times. Usually not a big issue unless I'm doing competitons late when closing if catch them late. A few times missed nice competitions still displayed that have closed. The other handy thing when doing daily bonus entries knowing when that competition day rolls over.
@GoldernFortune: nope, I'm less stupid than I thought… just got that to work :D
I've found https://www.worldtimebuddy.com/ to be really useful when we're in those DST confusion periods :)@pfaftle:
Usually I use https://www.timeanddate.com/ eg https://www.timeanddate.com/time/zone/usa/los-angeles is -8 thou may not the only timezone region with that offset currently. So the offset doesn't always provide a unique location/region. Why said sugests Westcoast USA, odds are it is.I'm fairly sure that uses the same database of daylight saving worldwide that I've incorporated into a database. Reminds me I might need to update the database just incase any recent changes. On the rare occassion a country or region might decide to take a step to right. Oh the madness
The pasting the unix time in the https://www.epochconverter.com/ takes any confusion out of converting.
Unless you're not located AEDT as Ozbargain competitions are posted in AEDT. Then need to slightly adjust as the time zone returned is based on the local time settings of your computer/device. So anyone in other states posting would need to consider that.@GoldernFortune:
The other handy thing regarding gleam competitions and diving into the source code is when you accidently get an entry but actually haven't done it. EG. a Youtube subscription etc and need to get the link to complete the entry. I've done that few times. I should add that to the extraction process and obtain all links within a competition. Would come in handy for various reasons. Eg like if I ever wanted to clean up old competitions and delete all those Youtube subscriptions.@pfaftle:
That's a fairly good link thanks. I might incorporate that format into my own interface when I get back to looking into it.
I do have one somewhere I used to use will find it later which had a world map.
