10" smaller at this size is actually alot of panel!
Last time I did the maths it was something like 100% for 55 inch, 180% for 75 inch can't remember the 65 inch screen size percentage.
So dollar for dollar if it is more than twice the price of an equivalent 55 incher it is a no deal for me but ymmv.
Edit: calculations
55 inch Bauhn screen size only no stand 1244 x 719 mm = 0.894436 m2
65 inch Bauhn screen size only no stand 1460 × 840 mm = 1.2264 m2
75 inch Soniq screen size only no stand: 1679 x 963 mm = 1.616877 m2
(Couldn't find dimensions for a Bauhn 75 inch)
Price per m2 or how much you pay for same amount of screen real estate
55 inch - $500 / 0.894436 m2 = 559 AUD / m2
65 inch - $800 / 1.2264 m2 = 652 AUD / m2
75 inch - $1700 / 1.616877 m2 = 1 051 AUD / m2
So pretty much 100% premium for same amount of screen real estate from a 55 inch to a 75 inch.
You don't need to look up dimensions as the screens will all be 16:9 ratio with the length along the diagonal the reported screen size. I suspect you are quoting gross dimensions which would include bezels/frames etc. (not exactly prime viewing real estate).

This link shows relative areas of the different TV sizes. Your argument doesn't quite stack up anyway though, as particularly with new tech such as OLED, increasing screen size isn't a linear increase in cost.
My approach would be to decide the screen size that suits your living room, then buy the best TV in that range you can afford.
To me, if you're in the market for a 75" 4K TV then you must have more than a passing interest in television, which is why I don't understand why people are then happy to sell themselves short with crap specs, excessive boot times or subpar picture quality. It's not all about resolution and screen size.
@HereBobButtons: nice link that's sweet.
I am an odd case I guess. I like experimenting with different sizes. And a bigger screen for me would be ideal.. honestly a 100" or a wall tv would be awesome for me.
Yeah personally I just want low input lag for gaming and 4k. HDR is a bonus for me. Boot times don't matter that much tbh just price atm.
Or at this level cost per screen real estate.
Which is what I just calculated and did.
So for example if somebody doesn't mind the bezels they could do a 110" screen with 4 x 55" for near the price of this 75"
energy consumption? 55" vs 65" vs this?
Most pointless comment award of 2018 already. Will be hard to beat!
I guess you know everything already huh.
55 inch Aldi Bauhn 130 W / Kogan 130 W
65 inch Aldi Bauhn 220 W / Kogan 250 W
75 inch Aldi Bauhn ?????? / Kogan 300 W
The screen's backlight uses a lot of the power. Newer tvs get brighter all the time, and overall power consumption depends how high the backlight is set, not just the appetite built in computer and screen.
Some (eg Samsung) allow you to control this directly
Others vary the backlight level with their contrast/brightness level.
Our 3 y.o. 75" Samsung is set to not use any backlight at all, consumption is <200W. but this is because daylight does not flood our lounge.
I have to say though, Samsung's are bad enough. How anyone can survive an Aldi one for more than a year (assuming the TV survives), I don't know. Low grade, third-party sourced screens are not much worse than the established SE Asian branded ones, but those are bad enough- in terms of build, reliability, support and most importantly, the operationial software.
Thing is though, once you go big, you can't go back. I wouldn't think twice about spending $800 more than a 65" model, but I wouldn't be keen on a cheapie, be it a 32", or a 75"
To me, the biggest issue is lack of HDR, otherwise the specs are quite reasonable.
That thing you only heard of 6 weeks ago and no one has any content for? Makes sense.
Xbox One, x, ps4 and Pro, all 4 do her.
Can anyone confirm or deny chroma subsampling 4:4:4 for pc monitor usage.
It makes text more clearer and readable when using a pc with it otherwise it is a bit blurry.
Not convinced. The 42” plasma I bought 5 years ago from big w for $229 still doing it’s kob pretty well. Especially now I finally formed out got a Xbox
so you haven't seen a 4K tv then huh?
I have a 65 inch FHD atm but when I saw the upscaled picture quality on a smallish 4K tv it looked so good…
I need our upcoming move to go badly. A 75 inch 4K would be nice.Yeah your right. I haven’t popes into a Harvey Norman or jb this last what4years? I also use a 4K monitor. Gee wiz.
This seems to be in the awkward price bracket, where its expensive for a fairly low grade 4K LED panel, and isn't much cheaper than the recent specials on OLEDs that are sub $2000. Unless you desperately want this large size, then I'd either spend a bit more to get an OLED (~55inch) or alternative buy a cheaper TV (around $600-700 for 55 inch 4K LED) and put the savings aside whilst you wait for an OLED panel of this similar size to come down in price.
I'm very much in the camp of buying either the cheapest 4K possible and forgoing features like HDR, or spend proper money on an OLED with 10bit HDR and more. My 49inch JVC bought from Big W for ~$300 on Boxing Day 2016 is perfectly fine.
HDR is a joke on MOST tv's that claim they do it. First it has to be over 750nits (most are half that) before it even works and 10bit fully supported from recording, encoding to playback (inc HDMI support)
Most claim bogus contrast ratios instead and dont mention backlighting LED or OLED where each pixel is illuminated. Samsung made it even harder by calling their inferior tech QLED for some bogus quantum dot tech. Its a dogs breakfast of claims and counter claims. Buy, try and either return or refund. It may not be convient but its the ONLY way to tell if its any damn good.
BTW my experience with early ALDI led tv's makes me think its not to be trusted, but you never know and KOGAN have samsung screens in theirs as an alternative and some good deals too.
"Most claim bogus contrast ratios instead and dont mention backlighting LED or OLED…"
TVs pretty clearly mention when they are OLED. It's their big selling point and justification for their price. Otherwise, if there's no mention of OLED you can be pretty sure that a TV just has LED backlighting.
Remember how thieves used to steal TVs… I feel for them now.
FYI I bought a 65” Bauhn for $799 just before Christmas. After the hassle of bracketing and installing, it worked perfectly for a day then I had a 15cm vertical aqua line permanently on the screen! Problem with Aldi stock is they have no more, customer service was average, I’m still waiting for callback from Tempo to receive a resolution. In the meantime I purchased a 65” Blaupunkt for $950, quality is so much superior to Bauhn. Will get refund from Aldi BUT cannot be reimbursed for installation
I don't see anyone mention the 65" smart version, so I will chip in my experience.
I bought it for $999 iirc, and the picture quality is really good (previously used a sony tv), I didn't have bleeding or anything. The smart features are 100% rubbish, like there is literally no usable content with terrible laggy UI. It takes about half a minute to wake up from sleep, and the UI isn't all that responsive. The remote controller works ONLY at 30 degree angle, anything more and it doesn't respond. It only seems to work to about 3 meters as well. But the angle is really frustrating because it feels like playing dart every time you want to change channel / input.
Finally, the HDMI connector to a PC has INSANE lag renders any PC gaming or actual usage non-usable. I'm talking about a second subjective lag (even on mouse and keyboard). It is worse on 4K.
Oddly enough, I recently bought PS4 Pro (go end of year sales!) and I can't perceive any lag. Played through Uncharted 4 in 4K and it was beautiful, truly eye popping experience. So I guess the lag is only on PC? Strange (my it has to do with my graphics card?).
There are a lot of subtle stuff. One of my major annoyances is the lack of anti-reflective panel on top of the screen. Any light source even from distance, completely reflects on the screen, it is practically a mirror. This by itself IMO, makes this TV a 1/10 as it is such a simple feature that should not be cut from any screen.I guess the TL;DR is that it is a good picture TV, but it lacks in every other department / QoL and it has terrible lag / remote controller. I personally would recommend against it.
If only Aldi stocked HDR TVs
I love how everyone is bitching about the quality of this TV.
Guaranteed it sells out within 10 minutes in 85% of Aldi stores Australia wide when it goes on sale.
No shit. Still doesn't make this TV any better lol.
Most people are technically inept/unaware and couldn't tell the difference between good and poor quality TV's.
Pretty much this.
This is an upgrade from the 24" 720p tv in my attic.
Sure oled and HDR would be very nice but just the upgrade to 4k alone is worth considering just need to find if it plays nice with consoles and pc and other entertainment devices.
Wish they made some ultra low powered tv's though.
I would jump on that in a heart beat even if it meant a tiny down grade in quality but more uptime or cheaper running costs.
"…but just the upgrade to 4k alone is worth considering…"
Your 720p tv should actually appear sharper than this 4k tv. It has a higher pixel density
Assuming you have room - no one in their right mind is going to say they enjoy watching a 24" in preference to a 75"
Size matters.
Depends on how close they sit to the TV though.
@GreatWhiteHunter:
Size definitely matters. I'd choose a 75" 1080p tv over a 24" 4k monitor. It's just that AlienC was talking about the "…upgrade to 4k alone…" being worth considering. But, assuming that your sitting distance from each TV is such that they occupy the same field of view in your vision, the 24" 720p TV should actually appear sharper.@mrdavedave: yeah sorry that was my bad.. I meant size and resolution but yes ppi density definitely matters also but for my poor eyesight size also matters greatly so I can sit back a bit farther and still enjoy good visuals.
So if they can't tell the difference why would they pay more?
The same people rushed out and bought the old dysons from Aldi ;)

That would probably be a better option for most people
9 days and counting for something better to come along…
Must be 75" as I'm looking to downgrade from 92" Projector - after 10 years I've finally grown sick of light management, especially with the kids.
By my thinking, a 75" UHD should beat the old FHD 92" projector image, light management issues aside. I can't buy into the get a 55" OLED argument, it's just too much of a size downgrade.
tick tick tick…
This is good as an outside pool tv to chuck the footy on I guess or blind as a bad nan.
Any word on colour gamut?
Well, there is more info up on the Bauhn website, including user guides and specifications.
Doesn't appear to be anything there that screams don't buy me, but I must admit, I didn't even know what HDR was 2 weeks ago, so I may not be up with the latest.

5 days to go…
Best alternative at this stage would appear to be the LG UJ657T 75" from JB ($2796) which they will reduce to about 2666 in store -
https://www.jbhifi.com.au/tv-home-entertainment/hd-televisio…Cheers,
JamesAnyone get one?
I bought one, just set it up now.
Issues so far:
- Imperfection in the finish on the frame, its like some of the shiny finish has peeled off in one spot
- Remote has about a 60cm range, even with new batteries I have to hold it right up to the sensor
- light vertical bands across the screen when viewing a dark scenePretty disappointed with it unfortunately, image is worse than my 4 year old entry level Sony 1080P 60"
Would be interested in hearing from someone else who got one if they're experiencing similar issues or if I just got unlucky and bought a faulty one.
75" is a great size for a TV though! Seems massive compared to my 60"
Thanks for posting your findings! About the 60cm remote range - could there be some protective plastic left on the remote or sensor?
Well got one. no drama. The main issue is well, movement looks a little weird. I think this is called the 'soap opera effect.' It's hard to describe, moving objects seem to kind of be a bit detached from the rest of the scene. Maybe not everyone is affected by this…
I noticed this about 6-12 months ago when I was checking out tv in Harvey's.
When I was checking TV's again last week, this 'soap opera effect' had disapeared from the displays in the store. I'm not sure if it is because newer TV's do a better job, the staff have turned off/adjusted some settings, or have just gotten better at managing the content displayed on the TV's in the store.
Interested to hear if anyone else sees this same 'effect' as I do. It was very apparent in both BluRay and DVD content - yet to try TV stations yet ;-)
Cheers,
JamesI know what you mean, my MIL has a cheap crap TV and I hate it….
Yep same issue for me. Was watching BBL last night on 10 and noticed this affect when the camera pans around quickly to follow the action.
Do you think you will keep it anyway?
Well I've done some more content tests. HD Big Bash was fine (great even) for me and switching Xbox 1S to '4k' mode was simply stunning for games.
Video playback from the PC also tended to actually crash the TV from time to time (I had to actually pull the plug to reset) and playing a DVD from the Xbox running in 4K mode resulted in a corrupted picture/inability for the TV to cope.
My Yamaha Receiver doesn't do 4K HDMI or HDMi-ARC so I'll have to think about upgrading that as well as purchasing an Ultra chromecast.
Downgrading from 92" projector display has not resulted in size nostalgia and I've revelled in watching TV without having to close all the windows. But a 1080p projector running at 24fps feels like a movie… what the Bauhn serves up feels different. I was watching a random film and thought to myself - the director would have a fit if he saw his movie looking like it does…
So overall, it's bearable, and really does shine with the right content, but I'm definitely keeping my eye out for an upgrade in the next 60 days. Pretty much if anything comes available in 75" for $500-800 more I'll be wondering into the shop armed with Frozen (DVD) and Gravity (BR) and making up my mind.
If I had to keep it I would still be satisfied but would have to make certain allowances…
Cheers,
JamesI had the 65 and I'd prefer a cheap projector for films and a smaller, better TV for gaming.
This didn't do either well. I realised I was compromising on everything for the price point.
And if it breaks in just over a year (fair chance with bauhn) then the financial saving is gone..Good luck either way.
incase anyone in brisbane missed out there are 2 left at aldi sunnybank
Any around Melbourne still?
Was 2 in Ringwood today around lunchtime
i was grocery shopping at the beaconsfield Aldi ( outter southeastern burbs bordering on rural) tonight, two left on a pallet at the back of the store.

Too expensive for all the features it lacks. Better off going 10" smaller and buying a reputable brand.
