Vornado 660 is $150 at Costco - they come in black and white.

    • Is this sale still on nationwide (I am in Sydney)?
Do you have the catalogue copy and/or receipt (if you bought one), so I can try to price match in DJ?

      • Quite sure it's nationwide - it is on their website.

Not sure when it'll expire but I picked up a black one today at around 5.30pm.

        • Sorry, did u mean the Costco sale or the DJ sale?
          I meant the Costco sale..

        • @OzFrugie: I saw it at Costco Moorabbin for $150 during that free access day. I assume that's just their normal price.

        • @lostn: $149.99 :)

        • @lostn:

Hmmm.. just wondering how I can price match with DJ (I want to use up my DJ gift card)..

          Any suggestions r welcome!

        • @OzFrugie:

Sorry! Should've learnt how to read!

        • @OzFrugie: https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/73739/54414/4fbecac8-f… show them this photo and they will try if they can price match for you.

        • @Unity55:

Yes, I saw that photo/post but rather not optimistic they will price match it based on that photo as it doesn't even say Costco anywhere..
          Thanks for the suggestion anyway!

        • +1

@OzFrugie: Most likely your price match will be denied as you need a Costco membership in order to get the Costco price i.e. it’s not readilly available to the public

        • @kerfuffle:

What if I show my Costco membership? Would they price match?

Can DJ call Costco to check the price? Will Costco tell the price over the phone?

        • +1

@OzFrugie: Those are questions I cannot answer and are best directed to your local David Jones store. As I said earlier, I'd be very surprised if they price matched Costco as they don't have the same overheads, such as the $60 barrier to be able to shop there.

  • +5

    That’s one expensive fan…

    • +1

      it’s an air circulator

      • +7

        Its designed in the USA.
Lets hope they mount these on the Great Wall to send the Mexicans flying when they try to climb over

        • -3

Don't be silly… You'd never find an extension lead long enough to mount them to cheap and nasty chinese cars.

    • +1

air circulator can travel up to 30m, this is good to circulate cold air when turn on air condition it also refresh air to make the air flow faster.

      • +1

I got the first one from ebay as a xmas present and by New Year’s Eve I got another two from Costco Auburn, one for myself and one for a family friend. These things are fantastic!

        • I think I am using it wrong! Slightly disappointed in the 660 unless it blows directly at me. How do you place it etc?

        • @RtN: depends on your room but from memory, place in on one side and point it towards the far side roof corner with the idea it will circulate air around the room.
          Concept: https://vimeo.com/10783633
Now one could argue if you have a high ceiling that one doesn't want to suck the hot air down……..also a cheap standard rotating fan or two can also do the same. They are good fans though for circulating.

        • @Borg:

Hmm so I have a section of the house that is always hot and has high ceilings ~4m - would the Vornado be absolutely useless for me?

        • @SevenSmurfs: You would need a bigger version probably

        • Do you mind uploading your receipt?
Did you get 633 or 660?

        • @OzFrugie: not sure why you don't just go to Costco for the 660. Why bother price match with DJ?

  • i have a 660, amazing fan for about 3 years. now its power has halved. motor just gave out? i dono.. but still use it anyways.

    • +1

      tey winding it back up

    • +6

      isnt it 5 year warranty?

    • +2

Try contacting the company who handles Vornado in OZ (milners.com.au) - They have excellent customer service and they probably will offer a replacement, you will just need to ship it to them.

  • So many enthusiastic people.. I might go check this thing out.

  • This or a Dyson fan?

    • +2

I find that I can't really feel much from the dyson unless it's facing me, vornado is good for feeling a breeze throughout the room.

    • +3

Dyson is actually a joke, this is expensive but at least does something differently to a conventional fan.

    • +1

Dyson fans are bad. Just trust me. They don't blow very far, and they're noisy. Plus they will cost you at least twice as much as this one.

This fan's breeze will at least reach you from a few meters away. The dyson won't reach you even from 1 meter away. The amount of air the Vornado moves per second is several times more than the dyson.

  • +1

I want one - but is there any worth if you have a ceiling fan in your room?

    • +2

Doubt there is $150 of value in it if you have a much bigger and probably quiter ceiling fan

  • +3

looks like it's in store only. i tried to buy all 3 online and at checkout you're met with either out of stock or not available for delivery. bummer.

after i wasted 60 minutes researching the 660 i came to the conclusion that i HAD to have one so i went hunting online for the best price. I ended up grabbing one off ebay for $187.95 (5c cheaper than David Jones) with "fast&free" postage.

    • +1

$169 with NEW10 code. Hrmm tempting as I don't have costco membership.

      • Arrived in Tassie this morning less than 24 hours after clicking BUY IT NOW. Very impressed with the seller. I'm currently funnelling air from my aircon into my bedroom and it seems to be working as advertised although I'm not really getting the bouncing of the roof effect some have mentioned and my ceilings aren't that high.

  • I may go to Costco Ringwood again next Tuesday. I can take you into Costco to make the purchase. You pay me cash for the fan.

    • Yes what's the deal with Costco policy on no separate receipt?

  • +2

Got one for Christmas. Was skeptical at first but it's the best [not a] fan I've ever had. It really does circulate the air around he room. Face it towards the ceiling at a 45° angle for best results.

  • +1

Great little stuff these guys are. Already have 2 and they work wonders on a hot day.

  • Bought one, returned it the next day.

Better off buying one of those metal blade high velocity floor fan for $80.

    • What's the reason for that? Are they the same in terms of effectiveness?

      • No. Not remotely. The high velocity fan is much better.

Air gets "circulated" well with a high velocity fan.

Air circulation happens when air "moves" in the room. Nothing new.

  • I bought the 660 from Costco a few weeks ago after doing a lot of research but I have been disappointed. Have tried it in the living room which has high ceilings, is semi-open and has lots of furniture in it but barely felt any breeze. It is noisy which makes it hard to talk and watch tv unless volume is turned up high and it is not very powerful on highest setting. Then tried pointing it towards an open window to try and remove heat from inside but did not appear to do much. Also tried it in the bedroom at night but again it was noisy making it hard to sleep. Will likely return it if I don't see any positive results soon.

I also bought a premium DC motor pedestal fan from Kogan which has been great. Looking at buying another one of these.

    • Are you sure you don't have a faulty item? Mine is not noisy at all

      • Not sure. My wife is partially deaf and was sitting close the vornado. She found it very hard to hear the TV or me talking. With all the furniture in the living room I could not find another spot to position it so that it was hitting the far corner of the ceiling. On the other hand, the Kogan has been whisper quiet. Wife loves it.

    • Agree with Rodo, for me it is a little noisy an not as effective as I had hoped for something pricey.

    • Better return it soon as Costco only have 90 dys return for electronics?

      • Purchased it just before Xmas so have plenty of time still to try it out. I really want to see if i can get this to work effectively.

  • Costco auburn has no more stock of 660 😫

    • +1

If you're prepared to drive to one of the the other stores then go to the service counter (or ring them up) and ask what stock they have at the other stores or when they will get more in to the Auburn store.

  • I bought one of these from harvey norman a few months ago. It works well, but I don't think it does anything more than a $30 generic fan. Perhaps it will have greater longevity than a cheaper unit, but this won't be known to me for a few yrs.

    • +1

I don’t think you will be able to feel the breeze from a $30 fan on the other side of the room :)

  • I purchased the 783 model, which is a pedestal version, about 5 years ago. It's extremely noisy and I hardly ever use it for that reason. I wouldn't recommend them.

    • +1

Those versions are great for using in the shed/garage on hot days though.

  • I concur. Bought it a couple of years ago (the 6xx model) and it's extremely noisy and too expensive for what it does. I wouldn't recommend them either.

  • +1

You can use this as a Fan on the slower speed, but the 3rd bar is really to push the air further than a normal fan.
To use it effectively, you would have a room with the aircon, and then use the vornado to push the cool air to another part of the house.

    • I don't know about the other models but the 660 has a IIII button ;)

  • Got one for my bday 2 years ago! It's actually worth it! Personally I like it better than Dyson!

    • Bit noisier than the Dyson. I like my Dyson cause it heats as well, also bladeless so little fingers can't get in there (or stick things in the blades!)

      • yeh true it is bit noisy even on the lowest level.

I was tossing between this or spend $400+ to get Dyson..

        • Yeah, if you don't like noise, don't get a vornado.

I think if you want to go cheaper than a Dyson, there is a Samsung pedestal fan that is about $100 and very quiet, has a remote I think, just can't remember the model… Friend has one, but it is what I would buy if I needed a fan that just works and is quiet.

        • @serpserpserp: I'm not actually bothered with the noise coz once I sleep I dont hear it lol!

        • When you refer to noise, are you referring to the unit itself, or being inside the cone of air (in the path of air).

I hear people calling this the quietest thing and the loudest thing on Earth and everyone seems to omit that factor.

        • @Shwayne: I'm actually not sure if it's the unit or the air….

        • @Shwayne: It's def not the quietest thing haha

        • Choice rated the 660 at 36dB minimum and 54dB maximum which is pretty much identical to almost all the pedestal fans that were also tested. For instance the Sunbeam FA8900 is 37/55 and the Kambrook DC motor KPF849 is 35/54.

        • @serpserpserp: Samsung make fan now? Is it a smart fan with Wifi?

  • That version in the picture looks like the one we bought 5 years ago in beige for about $50 off catch of the day.

    .
Thanks frozze posting this deal otherwise would never have known about it, Couldn't buy online last night for some reason but as I was in the city today
I got the 630 at David Jones Bourke Street store they had both White & Black, no signage anywhere indicating it was on sale
I showed one of the staff your OzBargain post and they checked and indeed it was $143.65 ……once again thanks :)

  • +1

It's American for one, so was never going to be quiet.
Think "the muscle car" of fans…. It's noisy, the unit itself vibrates at particular angles depending on fan speed.

I've used it for several years and was great for circulation in a non-aircon house, especially with a cool breeze coming through window at night.

Also great for pushing air from a room with a aircon to other non-aircon parts of house.

Thankfully I've now got ducted and the Vornado is collecting dust.

Overall if you're thinking to get this for a bedroom, just go the extra mile and get a ceiling fan. If you want to move it around obviously this will do the job fine. It's a decent unit.
