Air Conditioning Deal - Possible Scam

Hi, Want to buy a brand new 7kw split system air con.

Just find an advertisement. Their offer is so cheap and unbelievable. For example, their HAIER T-SERIES AS71TE1HRA 7.0KW INSTALLED is only $1069.20 which is GST, delivery, installation and removal of the old unit included. The location is in Belmont, Brisbane but no Street name and number or contact phone number provided.

Anybody used their services before? Are they good or just a scam?

Not a lot different to Purchasing a Bicycle Possible SCAM?

  • +1

That sounds waaaayyyyyy too good to be true.
Even a cheap Kelvinator 2.5kw would be around 600+500 installed. This price screams scam.

Edit: wont let me see payment options before registering either. I'm guessing bank transfer.

  • Just went through the registration/purchase process (using false info of course).

The checkout invoice only says "I want it installed" as distinct from installation included. It also says "delivery included"

But, the invoice also states "tax excluded" - which is illegal in Australia as an invoice must detail the GST amount.

Invoice total says $1,069.20, but when you click through to the payment page it says the amount is $1,101.00.

They do offer credit card payment option, which in theory gives you the right to request your card issuer to reverse the charge if you don't receive the goods.

Make of it what you can but even if the unit is delivered I reckon it may never get installed because the unit alone sells for around $1,100, and $1,800-$1,900 installed.

the invoice also states "tax excluded" - which is illegal in Australia

No. It depends on their customer/client base and their gst status.

      • Anyone with sales over $75.000 pa MUST register for GST - reasonable to assume they would have annual sales of at least that amount. The customer/client base status has no bearing on the need to register

        • Correct.
But if the transactions are strictly B2B, it is not a requirement to include GST in advertised pricing.
The dilemma occurs if a primarily B2B business sells direct to a private customer. Then it must be made clear to the customer that GST will be applied to the sale amount.
In both cases GST is invoiced.
In this case, it is clear that the items are not B2B and Airconditioningdeals.com.au is in breach of a whole heap of legislation.

The domain is also registered to the same host as the bicycle scam in the USA.

  • Also, the air-CON registration detail and check-out process is identical to the bike site listed above.

I also used fake information to go through the check out process. The payee account name is Adriasell Pty Ltd and Account number is BCB: 013-017. It is an ANZ bank account. I tried to search the account name and expect this company name might be registered. But nothing came up. So I think it is very likely a scam. Police should pay attention to this scam.

Thank you all for your reply.

Hello - just wondering if you know how to contact the police about this? Is it through the ACCC? Many thanks.

    • I posted bellow please check.

    • I posted bellow please check

    • They are registered in ASIC as Adriasel ,I approached ASIC,they told me this is dispute and you need to go via other channels.. If more of us approach ASIC,ACCC,fair trading, police and ANZ someone will do something about it.

Possibly not a total scam but I'd stay away. i.e it's possible you'll pay something like that price and get something stuck on your wall for your trouble. If they were any good, they wouldn't need to be so cheap during a hot summer.

ABN on domain is registered in Como, WA to "Air and co" - who don't seem to have another site and arent registered for GST. The site seems to have no connection to that name otherwise - despite them saying they're in Belmont QLD.

Domain is registered using an @australiamail.com address. google this domain and decide how trustworthy the people using it are :p

Also, you've misread, it's not GST inclusive "Prices are tax excluded" is written all over the site - which is dodgy as if not straight up illegal. Makes me wonder just how many more unexpected addons there are.

Honestly for the price I can believe they'll give you a unit, maybe even with a back to back install.

I cannot believe they'll give you a licensed arctick or licensed electrical installer. And I'd be very dubious about them collect the waste gas from your old unit and paying to recycle it and the old unit - much less pay GST on any part of the transaction.

My advice is wait til winter and the prices will drop dramatically.

At that price it would be a scam.

If your looking for installed AC please post your progress and quotes to compare.

I have a quote for $2400 installed Daikin FTXS50L 5kw (L-series doesnt have wifi controls :( but its $500 more for that so i dont think its worth)

Id expect about $450-500 for a back to back install

How about Appliancesonline https://www.appliancesonline.com.au/about-appliances-online-…? Is this a genuine seller? Their air con is cheap as well.

I have purchased from appliancesonline heaps of time, it is part of the Winning group and a legitimate business

      • +2

Thank you. I will order one from Appliancesonline.

        • They are great both times I used them, tip, get on chat ask for best deal. I got $60 off my $350 dryer that way lol.

    • We have purchased several things. We got an upright stove for our granny flat last year and had it installed by their crew. They did a great job.

Almost sounds like any domain names that end in "….deals.com.." has a pretty good chance of being a scam. Especially if it's from something like Facebook.

I keep seeing the Rayban sunnies $29.95 deals with a different domain name each time. Must be stacks of people who fall for that shit but don't bother trying too hard to get the relatively small amount of money back.

Anything that sounds too good to be true usually is.

  • If it seems too good to be true…then it probably is (too good to be true).
Go with a supplier that has good reviews and uses brands that have a good warranty. For 7kW - a good rule of thumb would be $2-3k for the unit and another $600-$800 to have it fully installed (all plumbing and electricals - unless you have a really long power lead run or plumbing run to add to the base install price).

    • Nah, 7kw unit is only around $1800 on most brand, currently mhi is around sub 2k mark with $100 cashback. If you're patient enough to wait for good guys eBay 20% off and cashback then it will be much cheaper. I got quote for $650 for back to back in Melbourne. Good guys installation will probably $200 extra.

We purchased 2 of these 10 days ago from this company and have had no contact at all since.Beware

I am sorry to hear that. If you pay by credit card, you should contact the card centre to see what they can do for you. If you did a bank transfer, I think you should contact the police. Their bank account was with ANZ. These people are locals. Hope you would have your money back.

      • +1

I direct deposited the money, have since been to our bank, police and reported it to fair trading,
Awaiting response but have had no contact with seller

        • Hi

have you heard anything from police, seems web site is down or has been removed, wondering if police did remove their web site.

also report to ACCC and ASIC,they registered with ASIC too.

        • +1

Yes I have heard from them and they're certainly on the case
I do believe, that they took the site down, as I told them even after 21 days they were still operating

        • I hope they get caught soon, I have lodged a complain to my bank as well, I told my bank next day after I transferred money when I had suspicion but transfer was not stopped.

Police should be easily finding them considering they are with ANZ and also registered with ASIC. They must have some kind of contact /address on both institution.

I am still waiting on Fair Trading response… I doubt they can reach out to them..

        • @shaneyaz:

was wondering anybody got their money back somehow?

          cheers

        • Hi newbuy, did you end up getting response on this or money back?

    Good afternoon,

I'm just wondering if any of you have lodged a complaint to ACCC about this website airconditioningdeals.com.au ???

My mum purchased a Daikin unit from this website before Christmas and has heard nothing since.

I rang Daikin and asked if the website or the parent company Adriasell were official reseller of Daikin products and they have never heard of them!

Alarm bells are going off for me!

    • Hi

This is scam, I am in same situation, you need to contact ACCC,Fair trading,ASIC,police.also ANZ and demand if the can freeze their money.

      cheers

this is a scam. been trying to contact them, have reported it to scamwatch and ACCC. i got burnt…
trying to get the bank to cancel the payment as we speak… rang a few air conditioning companies in belmont and they had never heard of it.

    • please check my comments bellow..go to ACC,ASIC,fair trading and police as soon as you can.

i did buy an oven once through appliances online and they were great.

    • appliance on line no issue with them, excellent customer service..

  • I bought one in December 2017 and still have not got aircon or my refund, contacted my bank ,they still chasing, contacted ACCC, contacted ASIC as they registered with ASIC as adriasel pty ltd, contacted fair trading now, once hear form fair trading ,next step is the police.

I think you guys should do same, go to ASIC,ACCC,Fair trading and police..they have to be stopped.the sooner you do all these the less people get effected.

ACCC said contact fair trading, ASIC told me they do not deal with distributes ,I have told them this is fraud and they registered with ASIC, so if we have more people complaining ,better effect.i do not understand something like this they should put stop to it and freeze their account in ANZ,,how does this work!!!ANZ telling me takes 6 to 8 weeks to follow up,,by then Adria sel ripped of a lot of people.

and I am surprised how ASIC can register someone like this.

anyways do above as soon as possible..

    cheers
