    No way these are authentic.

      • +2

Sure he can. He is just saying his opinion, what's wrong with that?

  • +4

Strange. I added the $10 optical frames to the cart and it appears as fidget spinners.

    • same with me

  • +2

Listed RRP $39 but lookup Ray ban web site lists 158 USD
    https://www.ray-ban.com/usa/mobile/eyeglasses/RX5114%20UNISE…

    • Maybe the fidget spinners were RRP $39?

  • +3

The fakers have had so many years of perfecting their craft with Raybans - it's one of those items like perfume, SD cards and Loius Vuitton purses that are so often faked, that you really need to buy from a proper major store, with a respectable reputation -even then there can be problems. Target was selling fake goods last year.
Anyway, without knowing the provenance, random much-cheaper-than-normal Raybans from a store on the internet are almost always fake.

    • Does it matter if they're fake if you can't tell the difference? (and for a much cheaper price)

      • hahaha ohhh no not a bit, of course not…
What's a brand? Whats intellectual property? What's product safety? Whats product integrity? What's false pretences? What's dishonest trading
        So yeah, it matters

        • +5

          For glasses frames?

And I'm coming at this as a consumer, not a producer.

When you pay premium for Rayban frames, you're just paying for the branding. It's not like they're made of super plastic.

        • +1

          @tetra:

i don't mind fakes if they disclosed them as fakes

selling fakes without disclosing them as fakes are as disappointing as fake boobs or 2"

        • @tetra:
Just buy ones without a brand on them then. It really is that simple. Don't be a scumbag thief.

        • -2

          @tetra:
Come on tetra, think about it a little more - it's not just branding.
You are are paying for the design - it is intellectual property and the sum of all of the research, history and design output of the Rayban company. It has real worth.
You are buying the quality assurance that the frames are made from safe materials - did you know for example, that many cheap unregulated plastics contain dangerous quantities of heavy metals that can poison you? Many fake sunglasses don't even have UV protection. Macular degeneration is no joke.
You are paying for the name-prestige. That is definitely part of it. That brand has had years of cumulative expensive marketing making it what it is in your mind.
They are some of the reasons you believe Raybans to be a reputable brand that is worth wearing.

        • @King Tightarse: A lot of counterfeit items are made in the same factories in China; sure there's less quality control and whatnot, but saying they'll poison you is just scaremongering.

And with the branding stuff, you buy name brand milk instead of coles/woolworths brand don't you? Even though it's the same and cheaper.

        • @tetra:
Alright mate, couple of things that directly affect you if you buy fake sunglasses
          http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/asia/china/8944028…
          https://www.saiglobal.com/pdftemp/previews/osh/as/as1000/100…
Many plastics made in China contain heavy metals. Heavy metals are neurotoxins and can easing be absorbed by the skin.
The second one is Australian standards for sunglasses - there are a variety of requirements for safety. One of the most important is UV protection. Why is that important? Well, especially with fake sunglasses, they cause shade that makes the pupil open up, letting more damaging UV light in than if you were not wearing them at all. They actually accelerate the damage.
What does UV light do? This:
          http://visionsource.com/blog/how-does-uv-light-affect-eyesig…

Those things are just the direct personal risks from wearing fakes - the moral side of it. Well you either understand or you do not…

        • @King Tightarse:
Your article is from 2011, doesn't cite any report, and doesn't mention plastic once. What it does mention is paint.
Do you realise the majority of the plastic products you own are made in china?

I do agree with your UV protection point, which is why I was specifically talking about frames.

        • @tetra:
I have taken this as far as I care to and made all the points needed. If you want to dig deeper and read more regarding toxic plastics and paints from China there is a wealth of information out there. Both plastics and paints are often coloured with heavy metals BTW, not just paints and plastic frames are often coated and/or painted.
The only reason to wear fakes after all the reasons offered is to pose to others hoping that they think you spent the money on the real deal - despite all the negatives.
          If that's you, pose away!

        • @King Tightarse: What you've done is make wild claims and fail to back them up, trying to pass off a nearly decade old irrelevant news article as evidence - even though "there is a wealth of information out there".

And in classic loser fashion you close off with a sardonic insult.

        • @tetra:
You know tetra, I have gone to a bit of effort to offer you solid reasons as to why fake sunglasses are a bad idea - if you can't understand the value in intellectual property (apparently you can't) or reject the offered Australian Standards requirements for sunglasses, that's OK, but ultimately the only loser is the tragic FOB poncing around trying to convince the world that his $10 fake Raybans are real. No one falls for it and the lack of quality and authenticity follows him around like a bad smell.
It does, however, give us all a good laugh as he proudly struts past - because that's what happens to poseurs who wear fake name-brand goods, tetra, people laugh. Forget the IP theft and the possibility of hazardous products, people laugh right at you.

        • @King Tightarse:

Haha did you just bring race into this?

And I'm sure people are able to tell if things a knockoffs at a glance.

You really are a stupid stupid person.

        • @tetra:
Don't forget to get yourself some $5 fake Cologne to go with your $10 fake Raybans.
Wear heaps to really impress everyone

        • @King Tightarse:

many years of perfecting their craft

You yourself admit it is hard to differentiate between real and fakes in your original comment.

You continuously change your focus and avoid any counters.

Ultimately you reduced yourself to making derogatory allusions to race for some god forsaken reason.

You're so short-sighted that you go against what you say within 5 comments.

You're so conceited that you spout BS and unashamedly link an irrelevant 7 year old news article as proof.
And when called out change your argument in your reply.

You are a hypocrite, a fool, and have left hints of your prejudice.

        • @tetra:
Aww gee don't get all hurt feelings on us tetra, it's unbecoming in a dignified cool guy sporting their fine $10 fake Raybans, smothered in fake cologne.
Why pay full price for a real product ever, right? So…. you wanna really impress, and we all know you do? Gotta finish the set and get yourself a fake Rolex.
Who's gonna know hey? And won't you look like the cool, cool dude; Raybans, Rolex and that sweet, sweet smell.
Ignore the snickering as you past by, tetra, it's probably about something else…

        • @King Tightarse:

Man you are really bad at insults, you're the only one mentioning cologne this whole time. Now a rolex. Snickering? Are you projecting?

          Please keep replying.

It's an enjoyable start to a near year winning an easy argument against a tool.

(notice how you once again ignore all my points and just use weak insults)

I have taken this as far as I care to and made all the points needed

Whats it like when your word means nothing? Liberating?

        • @tetra:
You want to walk around dressed in phony knock offs? That's great, please do!
I have every confidence in the world laughing hard at the clown dressed in fake goods and I deeply enjoy your emphatically supporting the concept. You will be wearing fakes for years to come, bewildered to any difference.
People will look through your imitation Raybans, deeply into your eyes and slowing smile, then chuckle as clueless reject passes by.
You will get used to it.

        • @King Tightarse:

Whoa man, where did my fake cologne and rolex go?

        • @tetra:
Now a first rate imitation-goods poseur like yourself, needs be highly mindful of their projected image and would have a canny eye on their effect towards the opposite sex.
So you have the fake Raybans, check, you are slathered in cheap fake Cologne, check, and remembering to flash your $20 Rolex (well the good side that the gold didn't flake off yet) check, but something's missing - how will those girls you haven't yet met (strangely you haven't) know you are a real player? A boss? A man of the world? A recently arrived nouveau 007?
It's simple, you need to wear the shirt that tells the story! That's right killer, a pink Playboy bunny logo shirt. Playboy! That way the ladies know a real player is coming and act accordingly.
Its you, tetra! Its fake goods man fully decked out!
Women will stare! Well, actually everyone will stare, and and point and laugh at the clown -but that doesn't worry fake-goods-man! You have fake goods and you will defend them wherever necessary! It's a perfect match! Tetra and cheap phony imitations of brand name goods. Wear them out with pride, tetra, they completely suit you .
Go tetra! You are a man on fire!

        • @King Tightarse:

tfw you're so mad you post a short story and taunt someone to reply but block them.

What's it like being this much of a coward?

It's hilarious that to any outside observer you're the mad one.

btw, you've assumed my gender/sexual preference and ethinicity. Tells people a lot about you.
Nor did I buy from this deal or own any actually 'designer' fashion. Fake or otherwise,
I just see a bigger waste to spend $200 on something that you'll hardly wear than $50. I thought we're all here to save money.

But please, go on if that's your wish. You've been clinging to the same insult for 5 comments now.

          I await your rehashed reply.

        • @tetra:
Counterfeit goods man! Defender of the fake, the phony and imitation!
Welcome back - so very glad to see you! Your long sorry absence made it look like you had slinked off with hurt feelings and nothing left to say. I am so very glad you were motivated to return!

"I just see a bigger waste to spend $200 on something that you'll hardly wear than $50. I thought we're all here to save money."

Still defending counterfeit, the fake, and the phoney version of branded goods are we? The goods that are perfect match for the sorry cheap heart of tetra. Fake goods! The goods that make the most sense to tetra. Still a babe in the woods immune to any reasons for the authentic, quality, actual true versions!

          IP theft - immune!
          Inferior quality - Immune!
          Possible hazardous materials - immune!
The derision and laughter of others - double immune!

After a while it became apparent that you were also immune to any reason, so I am happy to reduce it to a concept even a the simplest human can understand - the laughter and scorn of others. You have had that feeling before, you know it well!
You can understand that, can't you tetra? Other people laughing at your cheap appearance? All of those cumulative cheap compromises here and there making a whole that is just funny to others. The KMart jeans (they are still denim, still jeans right?) those vinyl shoes (leather is so expensive and vinyl is waterproof!), that acrylic jumper (wool is unnecessarily pricey), and…those counterfeit Raybans! They provide all the coolness you can handle at a price you can afford. (No one can tell right?)
Tetra and the laughter of others, as familiar as an old pair of jeans!
I am happy to take the piss out of you indefinitely so keep defending counterfeit goods, fake goods man! The goods that truly suit your character, my gender non-specific, sexuality undefined and ethnicity unknown friend!

        • @King Tightarse:

Ahh once again you manage speak so much yet say so little.

If there is any laughter it is at you and your limited ability to create original thought, as you repeat yourself over and over and over again like a little parrot.

But no more treats for you. You've run your course and your continuous repetition provides less entertainment than reality television. I was hoping you would be able to come up with something new, but miracles only happen so often.

I'm finished with you, one whos feigned morals are so high and mighty that you would defend multi billion dollar conglomerates yet by happenstance ignore the literal slaves they use - ah it would turn out your morals are as empty as you.

We won't be crossing paths again as I go on to hide you're inane comments.

-note how your antagonism stemmed from me thoroughly taking apart your 'evidence' for your conspiratorial beliefs, of which you still have not sufficiently provided in your plethora of useless comments. While you're age might not be that of a child your mind surely is.

        • @tetra:
Had enough of being laughed at have you? Fair enough tut tut.
That's what you get when you try to defend the ludicrous position: "it doesn't matter if they're fake if you can't tell the difference" People laugh at you.
I have had a good laugh as you squirmed and flailed around, so thank you very much for that! Tell us all how the fake Raybans are "all made in the same factory in China anyway" again - that one was classic
I certainly won't be hiding your comments!
I relish the opportunity to belly laugh at your ideas in another thread!
          Best!

      • +1

The whole point of buying genuine is for starters you are getting what you paid for. In this case the raybans will have filtering and other goodies while the fakes will of course not have any of these protections or benefits. Of course if you dont care for the care that genuine raybans are giving you thats fine. If you want fake glasses just so you can pretend you have raybans then why bother, life is too short for that nonsense.

  • +2

Well it's quite easy to tell it's fake, and I'm not an expert by any means nor do I work for ray-ban, but take these for example They don't have the rayban logo on the lenses (red flag #1). And they are meant to be polarised at that RRP of $275, and i highly doubt these are polarised or else they would be advertised as such.

  • Funny. The frame is the same one as I wear (Had to take my glasses out and check them). I bought them from NIB eye care centre and with lens and frame it cost around 150-200$ (After Insurance)

  • Ray Ban Grey Green Tempered Aviator Sunglasses 55mm - SOLD OUT

  • fake.

  • -1

Not fake, look at the pricing of the sellers other raybans. This is clearly a pricing error. It shows as a fidget spinner in cart.

  • Han.. Didn't know Ray-Ban made fidget spinners.. no wonder they are $10 each… :)

  • I ordered two Ray Ban Frames and received delivery today and found two fidget spinners instead of Ray Ban Optical Frames.
