Wow, those prices are errr… Expensive?

    25% off RRP Everything Online

still more expensive than other retailers for items i checked…

  • I have no idea what’s good or not good price with musical instruments, kept seeing the add so posted it as someone may find something cheap online or more likely in store with up to 70% off, like any sale every item isn’t going to be a bargain but there may be 1 or 2 good finds in there.. leave it To those with more knowledge to discuss, neg or whatever

Prices are absolutely pathetic. Move along folks. Nothing to see here.

Great prices for AMEB books. They usually don’t go below 10% off.

  • Windsor Queensland doorbuster
    KRK 12s 12 " Powered Studio Subwoofer $389

nice price for that at least!

    • Wish I lived up there, as that is a BONKERS price. Never seen that under $650 before…

EDIT: Adelaide store also has it for the same price. Oh dear…

      • +1

I am only saved because i have the 10 inch one already, still tempted though :)

      • Adelaide is closed. :+(

        • Seen it on the news. 7 said ABH stopped paying rent on the building. Pretty hectic. That being said though, was always a downright stupid place to have a store to buy bulky things from. Middle of a CBD, no parking, not even a 10 minute loading zone for customers.

How can you expect to take on eCommerce without parking? Haha.

Is there a problem with the website. Absolutely everything I saw has two prices, the RRP and the Online Price, both of which are the same! Absolutely nothing seems to be on sale. How to find a discount?

    • Use Code: EOY25 at Checkout to see discounted price or click on your closest store for in-store 'Door Buster' sale items Bourke St List

    • It’s 25% off RRP likely all prices have been changed to RRP, so whatever price you see take 25% off that

    • At least for synths, the usual price at Store DJ or similar is 25% off RRP.

Don't forget to compare with https://www.storedj.com.au or similar.

I checked prices for the Epiphone SG G-400 PRO, $579 @ Allans (Bourke St) vs $599 @ Gallin's…meh

  • Very tempted to file a complaint with the ACCC.

Businesses using statements such as 'savings' or 'discounts' when comparing a sale price to the RRP of goods and services may convey to potential customers that they are getting a good deal because the sale price is less than the RRP. If the product has never been previously sold at the RRP, or the RRP does not reflect a current market price, then this type of comparison may, depending on the circumstances, misrepresent the savings that may be achieved. https://www.accc.gov.au/publications/advertising-selling/adv…

I wouldn't spend my money at this shithole if they paid me. I used to buy all my guitar books, strings and picks at their bourke st store (17 years ago) until 1 day I was in there with my 2 female friends and was testing out an acoustic, the staff member told me to put it down and go hold my "jam session" elsewhere. When I told him I was testing it out as I needed an acoustic, he told me "don't make me stop doing my job and knock you out" I was 17 and he was clearly trying to impress 2 15-year-old females…. I haven't purchased from this shitshack since. Plus the fact that since the merger, they picked up Billy Hyde's range with Allan's prices…

It's ridiculous to pay 25% off recommended retail for a new guitar. The street prices for new guitars is generally at least 30% off, and you can do much better than that if you try.

I have 18 guitars in my collection - some bought secondhand, both locally and on Ebay overseas, most bought new from local and from overseas stores in Canada, Japan and the USA.

With the new ones, the most I paid was 55% off retail, and the best was 80%.

Coincidentally, the best price I paid was in the Billy Hyde closing down sale 5 or 6 years ago - a Squier Classic Vibe 50s Tele for 80% off retail, including hard case!

would love to see a photo of your collection!

    • How I miss that Surry Hills store…

Got plenty of cymbals and drum bags when it closed.

Spent many an hour there instead of being in lectures…

  • hey guys, I've just began playing guitar. I'm looking to get the epiphone les paul standard ($299 from Alexandria store). Would you guys agree? I'm not sure about amps but my friends have suggested buying a second hand amp off gum tree ( trying to budget <$200 for amp)

any advice? thank you in advance

What type of music do you like? That will determine the type of (beginner) guitar you should get.

This one is a nice electric guitar for an intermediate player. It's got great sound if you know how to play it, but the combination of the action, thick neck and heavy weight of it, will make it that little bit harder to pick up and play.

As a beginner, a thinner neck and lighter guitar would help you learn easier. The Les Paul Special II, Squier Stratocaster, or Squier Telecaster are all good cheap beginner electrics, that will help you learn quicker.

      Best of luck.

I like pink floyd, led zeppelin, foo fighters, red hot chili peppers. I've been practicing on an acoustic guitar but a lot of songs I like use electric.

Squier stratocaster was one I was eyeing as well. Looking to spend $300 max just for guitar. Will hunt more for prices. thanks!

        • +1

          You’re mixing things up.

Fender make a Squier. They also make a Stratocaster. They both share the same body shape. Slightly different headstock though.

The Squier is $300ish. The Strat $1000ish.

The Strat is far better guitar. But if you’re starting off the Squier is more than capable. I have a Squier and a 10w Fender amp and they are a great pair. For my casual noodling it’s perfect.

If you’re in Sydney near Parramatta, my suggestion is head to Guitar Factory. I’ve dealt with them plenty of times for guitars and drums and found them to be very good.

          Hope this helps.

          @sillywalks:

Yeah I was eyeing guitar factory and logans pianos. I'll probably go for the Squier since I probably won't recognise the difference at my level. Thinking of getting a used Amp off gumtree too. Thanks :)

        • @saddybedangdang:

I got my Squier and amp off gumtree.

          Happy hunting!

    • Is that new? I'd get it $299 is a great price, don't they normally sell for $850 new and retail for $1,099.

      • +1

i'm not in australia at the moment so my brother went to buy it for me. they were out of stock and it turns out that those retailing for 299 are damaged stock. seems pretty shifty to advertise a product as a sale without informing of damage until you are in the store. like a bait and switch tactic

  • Be very sure of what you buy here, no refunds at all for a change of mind even if you haven't received the goods yet. I know they don't legally need to offer that but so many stores do these days and it's just good customer service, It's lost me forever as a customer.

Also the free delivery only applies to online orders, anything bought in store can't be delivered and prices in store and online are very different.
