Vostok 14,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner (4.1kw, Reverse Cycle) $379 + Shipping @ Kogan (Normally $449)

120

Beat the heat this summer with Kogan's discounted pricing on a bunch of Air Conditioners - this one seems to hit a sweet spot in terms of spec and price - I'm finding that people are selling these on Gumtree for more than their current brand new price, although second hand!

Of course make sure you sign in to your Qantas Frequent Flyer account to benefit form bonus 1 point per $1 (making it 2 points per $) here: https://onlinemall.qantaspoints.com/info/81336/16485/kogan-c… - Should net you 758 points if you click through properly.

This will also stack with $50 worth of eVouchers that some people have been flogging off under this targeted deal offered in classifieds (they are selling for $8 so should save you a further $42) https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/348073

Shipping to Sydney was $35 so the vouchers more than cover the shipping cost for a total of ~$364 shipped if you manage to score vouchers as well (after buying them off someone). I suppose shipping rates will also differ across AU.

Ends 17th Dec 11:59pm

EDIT: From comments below this appears to be a rebadged Rinnai although includes heating: https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/rinnai-c41kw-cooling-only-por…

Appears to be able to cover rooms up to 35 square meters (although mixed information shows 28sq metres in one place and 35sqm in another)

  • 4-in-1 with heating, cooling, dehumidifying and fan functions
  • Low noise
  • 120° wide-angle air flow
  • Highly efficient GMCC compressor
  • Ideal for rooms up to 28sqm
  • Heating range: 16 – 32°C
  • Window kit included
  • Remote control

Order this if you want to wait 2 months for your product

    • This morning it said "Order within 3 hours if you want to have it dispatched by Tuesday 19th Dec". Did you order an air con from them ?

      • +3

Not the air con - i ordered something 2 weeks ago from Kogan with a dispatch from warehouse of 1-3 days….contacted them friday because it still hasn't been dispatched from warehouse (11 days after it was meant to) and I'm starting to get anxious as Xmas is so close.

I read some reviews and people are pretty angry with the blatent false advertising of the dispatch dates.

I have same experience in the past. Only good thing about Kogan is Kogan mobile because they send code via email.:):)

        • @katrodiyar:

Except the last 3 times I always had to call them as I never received the code. And the last time I even had incoming call restriction. Had to call them to fix it.

  • How does this compare with Olimpia Splendid Piu16 or issimo16?

people are selling these on Gumtree for more than their current brand new price, although second hand!

People always inflate the price on Gumtree to make up for lowballers.

Advertised price doesn't mean it gets sold for that.

    • That's true. I rang around hoping they would drop more but the lowest I could get was $350 at that price there's no point buying second hand. But then again maybe someone could get a better deal in another city etc

    • That's what gumtree is known for, especially cars

    • I put my 6 week old xbox one S (with Destiny 2 game) up for sale for $220. I got over a dozen offers within hours. One guy offered $100 (wtf!). I sent him a message with a counter offer - $250. Strangely, I never heard back. lol
      I sold it for $220. :D

      • I would have given you $110.

        • I would have given you just the game.
          ;)

          @starionx:

Had one idiot recently send me an offer for my graphite travel fly rod worth over $1,000.

Listed it for $600 and put NO OFFERS and the retard sent me an offer for $150 "can pick up now and pay cash".

So I went through all his ads and did the same thing, sent him an offer of $150 for the car he was selling for $10K.

And I could have picked the car up today and paid cash.

          LOL
Good work Scab. A true Ozbargainer.

Ah, now I know who wanted to buy my car for $150…

I'd love to grab this, but $66 shipping for me to gold coast just kills any motivation I have to grab it, somewhat kicking myself for missing the free shipping the other day.

    • Tried the eVoucher from https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/348073 ?

    • Aldi had one for $299.

It was a couple of weeks ago but some stores may still have stock.

      • +1

        Still plenty of stock around.

There is a 2 kW and a 4 kW model.

    • was just thinking that….looks exactly the same

      • Now the good guys says "cooling only" so it must be still be a Rinnai variant that does both heating and cooling

        • good guys must have changed it now because i bought the rinnai with heating and cooling last year from them which is exactly the same as this kogan one lol

        • @totororo: what are your thoughts on the Rinnai that you bought which you believe bis the same model as the Kogan one here?

    • Have added this in the post for everyone to compare - cheers !

  • What do you think about the 18,000 btu one? https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/vostok-18000-btu-portable-air-c…

    • +3

      It is cooler!

  • The reviews on the Kogan page look extremely dodgey.

  • How does the actually work for cooling? Surely if it's reverse cycle it has to reject the heat somewhere?

    • Yes with a window kit.

    • It sucks the air from the room to cool to compressor and the exchangers, and exhausts out via a tube that mounts on window/door. It's fundamentally flawed where it will continually place the room in negative air pressure…so you'll have constant hot air coming in from the doors or the windows.

I'm thinking about putting the unit in a box so I can somehow DIY an intake pipe that sucks from the outside. So no air is lost in the room it's trying to cool.

      • @ krisspy,
In the USA they have several dual hose portable air-con units to choose from as well as single hose ones.
The dual hose models are supposed to cool the room down much quicker and more efficiently.
One hose extracts hot air and one hose draws in fresh air.

Bought one. Thanks OP. Let's see how it goes.

    • Yeah waiting for mine hopefully to arrive before Xmas

  • Is Vostok a good brand?
    I’ve nevdr heard of them….

    I’m thinking of getting this
    https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/vostok-10000-btu-portable-air-c…

Can upgrade to 5 year warranty, not sure if it’s worth it..

10000 BTU is really low cooling capacity.

I found that even when I got a Polocool 19000 BTU unit a while back if you have a large room no dice… It will help only if you face it directly at you.

Now that I'm in a smaller place I went for the 14000 BTU unit.

      • Google says 10000btu is for a 400sqft room but mine is about 1/4 of that… I think I measured 140ish sqft forgot how many sqm that was

I checked that after I purchased the until so its a bit of overkill I think but good for other rooms if required.
