[VIC] Free Pallets at Bunnings Warehouse Frankston VIC

420

Bunnings Frankston has a pile of pallets they are giving away for free. Perfect for patching up a fence, you could even save the nails if you're careful.

Edit 18/12/17
Looks like this could be an ongoing deal. They have added a heap more pallets to the pile.

will they give you a free hire trailer and ute to take them home?

    • +2

No they offer free home delivery, just ask the service desk at trade counter

  • +1

Pallets are great for keeping stuff off the floor in the shed. I was able to get some with masonite and cut them in half so they didn't stick out too far.

  • +30

    Real free or Frankston free?

    • +3

The 'Free Pallets' sign is a subtle hint.

    • Not a great way to spill my morning tea

  • +1

Sweet, now I can build my house.

    What's the normal price? 😂

    • They always free, anything outside in car park or outside their dock is usually free

      • -2

This post wouldn't make the deal guidelines, it's normally free, and from many other places too. Freebies are not deals, I don't get what people see here.
Your scavenging their rubbish for free. It's like me posting free used sofas suitable for a dog bed, in your neighbourhood during local council rubbish collection.

        • +3

Saves people having to walk around trying to find one.
Pallets are very useful for some people

        • +3

          Post that deal, will upvote

        • +2

Probably why it was listed as a "freebie" and not a "deal"

  • +16

please be careful using pallets guys..
they will have nasty residue still on/in them from import fumigation…
good for garden shed base etc but just be carefull with any other projects you may want to do as ive seen online peopple making cubby houses etc and not good..
reason treated pine was stopped being used for outdoor cubby/swings etc and its bad stuff leaching out and when handled/touched is not good for your health…

    • +1

You beat me to it, and you were more articulate than I could have been! I know people who burn treated pine in their room heaters!!

      • +5

wtf, seriously? They're unlikely to do that for very long…

      • +2

Green flames are nice and warm

    • Not healthy for pet hutches either.

  • +1

Each to his own. Enjoy those pallets someone.

  • +1

See the (crate) pallet on the right with the side walls.

I have a larger version of that one, it stays in my garage.

It has been very handy to have the way it is.

    I turn it upside down.

It makes a great saw horse. Using a jigsaw, enough clearance for the blade.

    Other times

I place a piece of plywood (about 2cm wide) on it, it makes a great raised work table.
When I was refurbishing the wooden house casement windows (from an older era) was indispensable.

Just note too if you leave pallet wood (unpainted) outside in the weather, it will rot after a few years (even the hard wood ones).
Termites and other bugs, or just water damage.

    • +1

Are you the Transforma Ladder guy?

      • +1

No, the vacuum cleaner holding up the car person.

      • These pallets make everything that much simple!

  • +2

Can't tell if legit deal or Bunnings employee wants OZB to clean up their warehouse for them…

  • Most Bunnings and Officeworks stores have free pine pallets. Just ask if there is no obvious pile.

  • +1

i woulda been happy for people to take our old stockpile i just payed 1k to dispose of from our warehouse…
if you really want pallets go to any industrial area nearby and im sure they will be more than willing to give you as many as you need…

  • Do they have arsenic on them?

    • +1

like 99% of everything in shops/warehouses here it has originated from overseas.
all wood has to have mandatory fumigation and why some prefer to use plastic pallets if what you import escapes the fumigation process as it costs $$ to fumigate.
the pesticides used will be in/on wood still to some degree so best to avoid handling as much as you can.
as for arsenic i have no idea…
prob google what AQIS uses but im sure it wont be good for human contact.

  • I knocked a few together to make bins for compost.
    Worked ok.

  • +2

lol save the nails? thats just too stingy

    • +2

With some ear wax you can rejoin the nails and use in a Nail Gun.

Lol. Not only do bunnings kill of local competition. Now they get people to clean up their rubbish for free.

    • +4

Seems like a sensible thing to do when people are constantly looking for them for projects. Better than going into landfill.

      • +1

What Frankston bunnings needs to do is to contact pallet recyclers to come and collect the pallets.

        https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/177498/54823/bunnings.…
The image shows that the pallets are all over the place in the car park. It's not difficult to imagine that someone could get injured after they trip over one of the pallets. That's a lawsuit waiting to happen.

Frankston Bunnings management should really get those pallets disposed off in professional manner.

        • +2

Pallet recyclers will only collect standard size chep or heavy duty ones.
Any euro or unusual sizes or poorer grade ones will be harder to get rid of and usually cost $ unless someone takes them like they want here .
And cheps etc are actually worth money so lots will pay you for them.
This is from experiance not just a guy typing on a keyboard with nfi what im saying.
Some tips will take clean wood for free but it depends what they classify as clean and you still have to transport it.
Bunnings were a bad pallet hog holding too many pallets too long and why they lost chep contract and now you shouldnt be seeing many if any blue cheps there…
recyclings awesome but just be careful is what i said earlier..

        • @roosterman: Yeah, Cheps are worth around $30 each which is why every time you unload a truck with Cheps you have to replace them. Same goes for the red Moores. The worst are the long pallets from the UK which don't fit in standard racking…

        • +1

They won't take softwood pine junk, there are thousands trashed daily we have to pay to have them taken.

If lucky you can convince people to take the cancer wood away for silly DIY projects.

  • +2

Anyone in Traralgon region who wants free pallets should pick them up at the back of The Doc Shop, or BJ Bearings.

  • Are there any blue ones?

    • Nope, and never will be. Companies rent the red and blue ones from Chep and Loscam, and have to keep a tally on them. They don't own them, so they can't give them away.

  • Anyone want free pallets around Thomastown VIC area please let me know. You can have fortnightly pick up about 50 each time.

    • ditto in Cheltenham.. we are a not for profit and have to pay for them to be removed.. which hurts!

      • Why not take a leaf out of Bunnings book and offer them for free?

        • the printing business next door has hundreds outside and they don't seem to go..

  • They should do live demos of some of their own videos. Able to flog more sales of the tools and stuff.

They do sometimes. Keep an eye out for their upcoming DIY workshops. They usually have a flyer in store, or you can check online. My store made pallet xmas trees just recently.
If there is anything you want to see done in a DIY class, fill out a feedback form at the front of the store and it may well happen.

Hope my wife likes her Xmas present

  • You all need to go on line and see How pallets are treated. The Harmful pesticieds were outlawed years ago and most are now heat treated. Do your own research and you will see it is true
