i didn't even know there were 3tbs due to come out. this is the first i've seen of one, but it seems like a pretty good deal considering. mind you, i'm still struggling to fit fill my 320gb. LOL
i thought that it was 4TB HDDs that were coming out this quarter…. it seems as if that 3TB might be 2 1.5TBs? considering it is an external HDD and at that price point kinda cheap
No, all the major manufacturers have 3TB drives available. And its a true 3TB drive, not 2x1.5. Seagate was first a few months back, WD came out with these maybe October?
However the Seagate 3TB EXTERNAL seems to be having cooling problems (it gets really hot inside its case). The WD external doesn't appear to have this problem.
EDIT: On the deal: Considering Seagate 2TB internal drives are $99 right now, paying $50 for the enclosure seems a little bit steep.
Ah didn't realise that they came out that early. Thanks for the heads up.
Yea for $50 you can get a really good case for it. I prefer the x craft case or a vantec case which looks really classy.
Does this require external power? Doesn't seem to say on the add.
yes it does
For 149 why not buy a 2tb and stick it in an enclosure :/
Some people may not know how to do it. I certainly don't lol. Probably could if I research it though.
if you know how to use a screw driver and also how to insert a plug, then you could probably skip the research.
hey cool the 3tb hdds are out now and not that expensive either considering the 2tb were the price when they were released (IIRC)
