    How about HFC NBN?

    • +3

Yes you use it as a router with the nbn supplied modem.

    • +4

The Archer D9 can be set up as a regular wireless router by using Wireless Router Mode.
In Wireless Router Mode, it will work with NBN HFC, FTTP, Fixed Wireless and Sky Muster satellite.

      • Thank you

        • +2

I'm on NBN HFC and am actually running my D9 on DSL Modem Router Mode. There was some funkiness, can't recall what exactly, when I initially tried Wireless Router Mode. Something to keep in mind if you do get it.

      • +1

This is all correct! Works a treat!

  • +6

They have jacked up the price for this. It was $99 few days ago, now it’s $109 before discount.

  • +5

Geez these are half price now. I paid from memory $200 in 2015.

    • I think I paid nearer $250 back in 2014 for this but got wifi adapter for free

      • So a fifty discount each year… :P

  • +1

    got charged $97.01AUD :(

  • +1

Yeah, don't be fooled by "nbn ready" written on the box.

Going to sell mine and get something for nbn soon. Recommendations?

    • Recommendations?

      for NBN ?

      Try this…

      • But do they buy enough CVC??

    • Why do you say that? I have the D7 and am using it with the NBN

      • +1

It needs an nbn modem. The d9 can only function as a router. I don't want two devices, the last time i tried that (d link 2890 or something, i accidentally thought it was a modem router when i bought it) i couldn't make it work

        • I am guessing you are on FTTN? If so, then yes, you are right but if you are FTTP then i thought it'd work as the D9 has an EWAN port for connecting to an FTTP NTD.

    • +2

Using it with HFC (as wireless router) - running beautifully

CNt wall mount and the antennae are flimsy and can’t be replaced - very annoying.

    • +1

I know, right! I have to replace my antenna on my modem at least 6 times a year. It’s just annoying these are so flimsy, cause when we are using this modem as a football in the back yard, the antenna are the first thing to break.

And mine are on pretty standard SMA connectors. So it’s easy to remove and replace them. And once the modem is set up in place, the antenna are pretty much left alone. As for flimsy, these antenna are nearly solid plastic, so I don’t know what D9 modem you received.

      • Thanks for the reply mate, appreciate the input.

The problem i have with it is that it has to sit on a cabinet (at least in our house) since it is too large and bulky to go inside a drawer, and cant be wall mounted. This resulted in one of my kids accidentally knocking it over which cracked one of the antennae. I emailed the manufacturer to buy a replacement but didnt hear back. I assumed they would only fit this model but i think you are saying i should be able to buy generic ones…?

        Thanks again :)

  • I'm on FTTN and have a basic modem but would like to bridge it to something with better wireless coverage. Is there any difference between this and the Archer C9? Is the D9 identical except includes the modem too? Would I be better off purchasing a wireless access point instead?

    • +2

Is the D9 identical except includes the modem

      Correct

      • Thanks. I was confused as the C9 is going for $169 from Wireless1 and has less functionality…

    • You can change the D9 to be a wireless router only.

  • My W8960N still going strong

Let me guess, your microwaved food is also giving you cancer?

      • I don't own a microwave. You can see many studies on microwaved foods.

It’s a conspiracy… WiFi was invented by the NSA so they can listen to your thoughts while you sleep! The CIA harness the collective power of people’s minds over WiFi while they sleep to mine for Bitcoins.

Sheesh. Microwaves? Ironic twist, cheep typed this from their Google/Apple mobile phone while using WiFi.

Ps. I use wifi sometimes. Wouldn't dream of having my home infested with it.

@cheepwun: what device did you write this comment on?

        • @Symbiotic:
          Amnesia?
Didnt know you can write with this router.

        • +1

@Symbiotic: shhhhhh. That’s beside the point. You’re supposed to ignore that part when conspiracy theorists post online…

        • @cheepwun: There is no amnesia here; you’ve just never answered this straightforward question. What device are you using to browse ozbargain, and write comments with?

        • +2

@pegaxs: Never answers the question. Never addresses the people who bother to pick apart the shoddy websites that they spam this site with on a daily basis. Just cherry picks critical comments and replies with a meme.

        • @cheepwun:

So are you going to answer the question? Or just avoid it? Again.

What device did you write your comment on?

Is it a device with wifi? A device with Bluetooth? A device with NFC? A device with a camera? A device with Facebook, whatsapp or Facebook messenger installed? A device with any Google apps installed? A device with a screen (I’ve read a comment of yours RE radiation from displays)?

If the answer to any of those is yes, then even you must recognise the hypocrisy.

        • Nah, I’m betting cheep has a carrier pidgeon that they send out to someone else and gets that person to post cheep’s comments for them.

NSA can’t read a carrier pigeons mind with wifi. Or can they? I’ll wait for the crispy meme and vague YouTube link to find out…

          But, but…. the wifi’s…

Ive answered your identical question multiple times.Amnesia. Broken record.Amnesia.

Now that the people asking for peer-reviewed studies have shut up after being spoonfed, it's just plain ol' apathy left ( as it was in the beginning)..

        • +1

@cheepwun: No crackpot boring youtube lecture or crispy forced meme? I’m disappointed. :(

        • -1

          @pegaxs:
Crackpot = someone who links to science I don't agree with.

New in next year's Oxford English Dictionary.

Boring = apathy at record highs. Entertain me instead. I want to be entertained and wish to be argumentative for the sake of it. It's better than being bored. Apathy will remain untouched. 99.999% of the population. I'm part of that.

Disappointed = looking in the mirror

        • +2

          @cheepwun:
Crackpot: Someone who believes blindly in something and feels the need to tell everyone, no matter if they are right or not. The type to cite only sources that feed their delusional ideals, yet still partakes of the situation as they see fit. ie: Internet is bad and WiFi is bad! But they use both the Internet AND WiFi to research/post their garbage.

Boring: The act of sitting on the internet and just finding crazy crackpot ideas to flood forums with cause you have nothing else to do with your time.

The problem is that with all the noise going on, no one will take you seriously. It's not about apathy, it's about "factual" information in an easy to digest way that doesn’t come across as totally one sided and hysterical. You're in a room full of meat eaters and you're trying to convince them to go vegan. (Not to mention that you're eating a hamburger while you do this…)

Oh, that and the fact that you are known to the community as a troll. :) Until you shake that image, you will never be taken seriously. It's not apathy, it's "oh jeez, not this garbage again…"

Just some of your neg post threads over 20. I struggled to find positive votes. I believe that you have an important message, but the way you put it across is all wrong. On your first page of your comments feed, you have over 205 negative votes and 2 positive.

Oh gee, I really needed my negative posts pointed out individually like that… by someone who has nothing better to do. Anyway, well done. Fan club membership is cheap.

Someone who thrives on being argumentative and making insults with their time. And offers their unsolicited 'advice' about being taken 'seriously'. LOL.

As we all know, majority rules. Popularity rules. Negative votes mean unpopular. Unpopular means no good. And no decent mass acceptance means crackpot.

In a post above, you made some silly statements about your wireless beliefs along with the usual insults. Anything else to add?

I may have missed something due to not being an obvious man of science like yourself, and frankly intellectually lost. I long for those copious trademark insults and more advice about being taken seriously by the masses. As if I care about converting them.

          Zzzz.

        • +3

          @cheepwun:

You got it all wrong. I said "I believe you have some valid points…" but you come off as arrogant. You get neg voted because you post stupid memes/comments with no facts, just conjecture, speculation and you treat "non-believers" with contempt.

I am not a man of science, I am a man of fact. If confronted with overwhelming evidence, I will review my standing on the subject and change course. What I wont do is alter my current trajectory based on some pseudo-science biased agenda suited articles. And I most certainly wont change my view if the person presenting it has a history of trolling and treating the non-believers as second rate cattle all because they don’t blindly accept the biased garbage that is presented in some incomprehensible meme or droll youtube video…

Anyway, I do like tracking you (I'm a bit of a cheepwun fan!). Your tinfoil hat views coupled with your really bad memes is like watching a train crash in slow motion. Don’t change a thing, but don’t expect people to listen to you if you continue to insult them…

PS: negative votes mean a number of things. Yes, unpopular is one. But it's also because your opinion is wrong, unfounded, incorrect, lacking details, insulting, hypocritical, unwarranted, unhelpful and a myriad of other reasons. Pick one.

Anyway, I've said all I am going to say. You're just replying for the sake of trolling because you're bored. If you want to make further conversation with me, best to take it to private message.

@cheepwun: I think it’s you that has amnesia. “What device do you use?” You’ve never answered that question. Oh I’m sorry you once wrote “a cheepwun”. I’m happy to be proven wrong, but we both know you’ve never answered the question properly. Instead of writing “amnesia” again or replying with a meme perhaps you could just answer the very simple question:

What device are you browsing ozbargain with and writing comments with?

I suspect you don’t want to answer the question because you know you’ll come across as a hypocrite. For starters… it must have a screen…

@Symbiotic: plot twist… Cheepwun is plugged in "Matrix" style… :D

  • What's this like as a router for HFC? Comparable to a Netgear D7000 in terms of wireless performance?

    • +1

I think it’s great. Running it with HFC in a busy house (~12 or more devices at times). Although our Microwave can still affect it even on 5Ghz.

Nighthawk will give u more options if u move and change connection type (VDSL)

  • Hm, can this be bridged with an Archer D7 for the D7 to act as a wireless extender?

    • I don't know what you mean by 'bridged', but if you want to deploy a 2nd router as a wireless Access Point (and switch), then yes you can do that with the D7 (or any other modem/router).

Refer to the tutorial 'Wan Bypass mode, running 2 Routers'…
