Heading price shows up as $70, but read what it says further down in the $70 banner and in the fine print.

"Merry Giftmas: $70 Mobile Broadband plan offer: Sign up to a new $70 My Mobile Broadband Plan with a selected Tablet or $70 My Mobile Broadband 12M SIM Only Plan and receive a 25% discount off the monthly access fee for 24 months. Available Online Only. Offer ends 3/1/18."

Not sure where OP got the expires in 24hours from though?

      • +2

While it may be a sick deal, i can see Optus fcking it up and not applying a discount lol

        • Screenshot everything for followup in case they fsck it up.

Dupe? Not in title but mentioned in description.

    • If it's not mentioned in the title, then it is not considered to be a dupe.

      • Fair enough.

Needs to be advertised more clearly imo anyway, bloody good deal.

  • Can we get 200 gift card form Harvey Norman as well like iPhone 8?

    • Terms say has to be my plan plus, this is my mobile broadband plus.

    • That deal expired I think !

    • This deal is online only and you can not get it from HN.

  • so is there are deal for the 10.5" ?
if so can i add this for free to my $30 15gb plan and share the data free?

    • You can share with any mobile or tablet plans, I even able to share with old $5 plan ! The prod 10.5 is also available but nearly $100 a month for the 256gb version

      • +1

i got it on the 10.5 256gb ipad, its 79.5 which the ipad is 58.9 or so really getting this 100gb for $21 a month!

        • For an extra $10 per month you can get the pro 12.9" 256gb

        • @youness935:

12.9 is way too big. I’m using this to read on the go.

  • +1

This would be perfect for my mother.

Can she use the iPad as a wireless hotspot?

    • +1

      Yes. Absolutely

  • +2

How do you know the deal finishes on 13th?

    Cheers!

    • +1

There was a 24hrs countdown clock when I was going through the deal! Not there anymore…. I think the deal finish’s on 3//Jan/18. Same as the 140gb data only plan. I’ll update the posit. Thanks

  • +1

    It says Out Of Stock.
    Edit: for Gold version only.

    • All 3 colours are showing as Available for me.

  • +2

WOW!!!! thi sis basically 100GB for $21! awsome!! its good for the 10.5" too!
    "

    • $74.50/month for iPad Pro (10.5")

      • yep just ordering it the 256gb is 79.5 basically 100gb for $21 and i really wanted an ipad pro 10.5, so its great.

  • Assuming they don’t offer this with the ipad mini?

  • DOes this stack with multi policy?

  • This appears to be only applicable to the older iPad model (non-Pro model), which is why they are clearing them out with this deal?

    • You can also get the discount on the $70 plan. For the Pro version.

      • I'm looking at the pro version and it's $80 per month ($70 plan + $10 device) for 100gb. It's not showing any discounts like the older version?

        • Did you see the yellow highlights regarding the deal $70 is now $52,5 ! try stepping through the process to buy and you’ll see the discounted priice

        • @Sevenofnine: Thanks, I've seen what you mean now. There's still a $22/month device charge so it's $52.50 + $22 per month. Whereas the old model is just $52.50 per month in total.

  • +4

Thinking of dropping my fixed broadband for this. I get 50GB a month for $50.

For an extra $2.50 a month I'd get double the downloads and be able to take my internet anywhere and get an iPad.

    • +4

And Optus Sports is included for free as well. And Netflix isn't included in data as well.

      (Yes I replied to myself)

      • Netflix is SD only. Not an issue for most, but worth noting

    • +1

Why are you paying so much for 50gb fixed broadband?

      • +2

Because he's 'ant on the net'

      • Good question. Have NBN with belong - cheapest plan was $50. Is enough for our needs. Can't really get any better unless you pay for more.

        • Amaysim unlimited nbn is $50 per month..

  • +1

Thanks OP! Great deal! Purchased it today and it worked out at $52.50 at check out and the only colours available were black and silver :)

  • +1

Holy moly. I just did a speedtest on my mobile. I get 27.2 mbps on optus 4g vs 2.1mbps on my adsl. This is very tempting particularly given unmetred netflix.

    • +1

Keep in mind unmetered netflix is limited to a low-ish resoloution

      • And I think I read somewhere the unmetered Netflix is only unmetered from your mobile device, not when you tether… (I'm not sure how exactly how they distinguish a tethered Netflix session vs. a mobile app but just beware!)

  • Just wandering, does this qualify for TRS refund scheme?

  • +1

Can optus put a cap when you reach past 100GB? Hate to constantly worry about going over and paying excess fees.

    • +1

Yeah at $10 per 100gb - and then only capped at 150gb there is a risk of $500 penalty charge. Particularly risky because your device will count metred / unmetred content. So you aint really sure of your usage. Watching usage sucks.

    • +1

You get 50% and 80% data usage warnings

  • How good is the speed on the Optus 4G network? Will these cheap deals lead to them oversubscribing their network and causing slower speeds?

    • I have 4G optus and it shows download speed of 30mbps. This is 4G plus so i am not sure if it will be better than that

  • +1

Approximately how much would I be able to sell the ipad for? I already have one from work on Telstra, I'm just interested in the 100GB.

if anyone has their ipad from this offer, unopened that they want to sell for $480.00 id be keen to buy (without the data). Prefer ACT or Sydney to pay and collect. PM Me. and yes i do know this sold for cheaper at Myers earlier this month https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/345633. thanks

      • The Myer deal was for a WiFi only model. This one has cellular and retails for $799.

  • +1

Not familiar with Apple products - would look to flip the iPad to make the internet cheaper. Does anyone know off the top of their heads whether worth paying a premium flto get and sell one of the higher models?

    • +3

I'm thinking you would get at least $500 for the ipad, making the plan 32c/GB. Otherwise go for the sim only 140gb plan which comes to 37.5c/gb and no hassle of selling an ipad or worry about running out of data.

  • I am using the $70/100g month to month plan at the moment, it is a no brainer to sign one. paying less per month and got an extra ipad to give away for xmas.

Also, I am using the data sim on a old 3g optus modem, the speed is still faster than a adsl2. 100 g is plenty for my family.

    • +1

You can share data on multiple devices too

    • +1

I just bit he bullet. Cancelled my ADSL and signed up. We will make do with 100g until NBN arrives.

  • Are the ipads locked to optus sim cards only?

    • nope… these are sold on plan.

  • If you replaced your fixed internet connection with this setup, I assume you could use the iPad as a hotspot, then mirror to Chromecast or Apple TV using your phone?

    • +1

      Chromecast no, Apple TV yes.

Chromecast takes the link from the device and plays media by itself, Apple TV just mirrors the phone/device.

  • Cool, 115GB for $$110 a month… that's still pretty good without the bonus iPad Pro.

  • +1

Can it be combined with 10% student discount code?

    • Nope I tried. Coupon not recognised

  • Has anyone tried upgrading their existing $40 iPad deal to this $52.5 option? Would be awesome if it was possible.

    • +1

I tried online last night but was only showing $70 through plan upgrade, going to try chat today with them to see if they'll do it

  • im not an apple person but do they have vpns for use on ipad.

    • Yes, you can use a few, privatevpn, open vpn etc.

  • argh, I want to chat to Optus Sales but still not working! was hoping they could do 52.50 on the Galaxy Tab S3 also

    • I was hoping for the same deal but after chatting to their sales team online they won't do it

      • Yeah they can't do it. Pretty piss poor! it's the same bloody plan on a different tablet. I was happy to pay the $13/month on tablet

  • I'm already using optus 4G for my home internet ($70/100GB month to month) so this is a no brainer. 4G was temporary until NBN was due to arrive in a few months, but it's been pushed back another year so there's no harm signing up for 24months

I'm ready to jump in but Optus website is giving me nothing but spinning circles. they're a bloody basket case!.

    • +1

Do you get good enough speeds to stream HD video?

      • +1

yep. Speed and reliability have been OK in the 4 months I've had it. My only complaint is with the general incompetence of Optus: website and app are regularly down. Incorrectly charged paper bill fee. Nuisance usage warnings (system thinks I'm on different plan so I receive warning and extra charge msgs every 1GB over 7GB).

  • Ordered mine on Saturday and am still waiting for it to be processed today. They assure me it will be out by the end of the week. Anyone else experiencing delays in dispatch?

  • Questions about data sharing. Can I;

*Sign up to this and get a low data mobile plan and use some of the day from this plan?

*Sign up to this plan and use it in a USB router for cheaper/ faster home internet?

    • +1

Yes, you can share this with your other mobile plans .- not prepaid.
Have not tried to use a mobile data device, this is a data sim… so should be ok. Remember the streaming of those data free contents only applied to the device with the sim in it.

  • +1

    Isn't this a dupe? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/348315

Anyway… $32.50 x 24 = $780. You might be flat out selling it at that price. I listed mine on Gumtree for $580 initially. As the ad saved and listed, the site picked up I was selling an ipad - and it displayed adverts for the same ipad from Kogan and Officeworks. One of their prices was the same as my listing - and the other was about $10 more. Who's going to purchase mine, when these ads from stores are staring them in the face. Thanks very much Gumtree!

Also, in spite of me searching completed auctions before listing mine (to see what they sold for over several months)… Right after listing mine a few other people listed theirs. One was $520, another couple were $530, and an opened but unused one was $540.

Due to all of the above, I dropped my price to $540. Then I listed on facebook too. Over a few days I got TWO inquires. Neither was from Gumtree.

Yes, you can sell it for more on ebay. But you'll have to pay a huge chunk in fees too. After subtracting fees, I would have received about the same amount. And using ebay meant risking someone scamming me, by claiming it was faulty and sending back an empty box (so they could prove to paypal with an Oz Post receipt that they 'posted' it). That way they get to keep the ipad AND their money. At least with Gumtree they see the box is sealed in person and you get cash. So if you plan to sell on ebay (why risk the scammers)… Then wait for their next no insertion and final-value-fee days.

Note: I was pretty confident I could have sold it for $570 if I'd waited. But I wanted it to sell it quickly instead of eating into the warranty.

Selling at $540 brings the plan cost down to: $52.50 x 24 = $1260 - $540 = $720 / 24 = $30 per month. But if you think you can get more, by all means go for it. Just thought people would like to know my experience.

    • I lined up a buyer at $600 before committing, partly so I could offer them a choice of colour and improve chances of selling. Fingers crossed they actually go through with it.

  • Oh, and the ipad is cellular AND wifi. Not just 4G.

  • What wifi modem do people recommend using for home use? I have bought an E5573 for portability but would this be safe to have plugged into power permanently?

    • Yes I’m using it with power connected 24x7 no problems. I had bought it for $19 from a previous OzB deal :)

    • I have similar, the E5876. It's plugged into a laptop USB port all the time except when I go out. Funny how we will worry about that, but then have external hard drives plugged in 24/7, and computers, TVs, microwaves, fridges, water heaters…

  • The fine print with Optus states that the deal is only applicable with new services. I have my mobile plan with them - does anyone know if they will still honour it?

    • +1

Its still a new service. You are and existing customer woth a new service.

      • +1

        Awesome - thanks!
I just finished speaking with them because the contract amount stated $70 per month but they said that at billing the 25% discount will be applied.

  • Thanks for the post Great Deal.

Does anyone know of the Cancellation fee ?
Is it a matter of just paying out the remaining $52.50 per month for the months remaining ?
OR do you have to pay off a certain amount for the device as well ?
