Good to know that it is cheaper there but personally I would pay the difference for Google Store support + advanced RMAs.

      • +3

I've been following the Pixel 2 discussion thread on Whirlpool and their seems to be a lot of praise towards JB and their service regarding replacements etc, but of course your experience may vary from store to store.

        • +2

Ah fair enough, I only had the 6P as a point of comparison and Google Store was best by far in that respect looking at anecdotes online (I was upgraded to a Pixel XL, unlike many others who bought from retailers and were referred to the manufacturer for repairs).

I have also RMA'd a Nexus 5 with no issues either but don't have anything to compare that with.

        • @eecan: Bought Pixel XL OG from Google Store, and you get no different service. Support is through the phone chat/call app anyway.

        • @eecan:

I'm currently waiting for my Google Pixel XL to be RMA'd via google store. Very unhappy with the delay. Was advised 5-10 day turnaround, I am now 18 days down the track with "specialist team working on solution" as stock is an issue. ACCC complaint will be incoming if no resolution by end of week.

      • Buying the pixel from JB, you still get Google 24/7 support.

        • Did they change the policy?

For the Nexus 6P there were multiple comments on this page about users waiting for their phones to be assessed.

          http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=2644980&p…

        • @eecan: I can only tell you from the 1st gen pixel onwards, google 24/7 support is available for pixels bought from Telstra, JB hi-fi and of course, google store .

        • Edit: Nevermind, I have no idea what Google 24/7 Support is.

    • Thanks for posting :) must have been like 30 mins after I posted they changed their prices!

Does anyone know who has a much superior RMA policy with regards to GoogleStoreAU vs JB Hi-Fi ?

When my Nexus5 died at 17 months, GoogleStoreAU shipped me a refurb within 3 days. When it arrived, I then sent the defective one back to GoogleStoreAU with free of charge postage.

When my Nexus6P died at 23 months, GoogleStoreAU gave me a full refund (as Nexus6P was no longer being manufactured) within 2 weeks.

GoogleStoreAU never gave me the run around.

What is your flagship phone RMA experience with JB Hi-Fi ?
Did they give you the run around?
    Was it hit and miss?
Did they ask you to deal with the manufacturer directly?
Has your JB Hi-Fi's RMA experience better than my GoogleStoreAU experience?

    • Why don't you call up your local store and find out their policy? I think a lot of the time, some of the things highly depend on who you talk to and each individuals circumstance.

From what I've read, JB will replace a faulty device on the spot as long as they have stock.

      • +6

Within the first three months. After that, JB need to send it off for assessment first.

    • +1

Can confirm this, I had two nexus 5's with the a similar issue and then Google Offered me a refund after 2 1/2 years of phone use.

I'm glad to see downward motion to pricing on this phone.
However my Note 4 is starting to stumble so I hope discounting continues.

Does anyone think the price will drop after the new year when they remove the Mini Google Home from the deal?

    • I'm glad to see downward motion to pricing on this phone.

I'm surprised anyone's considering it given the reviews of this device.

      • +3

No phone is perfect, but with any purchase I do my own research, so I know what I'll be getting.

Coincidentally after the talk about the blue tint, I put my screen at an acute angle and could see on a white screen showing a blue hue.

        • Compared to Note 8 though the Pixel XL 2 is a very tough sell. The Pixel 2 on the other hand is quite a nice phone.

      • +8

The reviews were very positive overall, and it's still a strong recommend from most reputable sources. The screen issues were overblown to say the least, restricted to the XL model, and have been (at least partially) addressed by Google via updates.

It's still one of the best cameras on any phone, has guaranteed updates etc from Google for ~3 years, and pure Android is much better than any skin by any manufacturer.

I'd buy one, if I could justify the high price.

        • -1

Look at xda and reddit subs, there are far more issues than most phones. The ones that don't have the blue tint have grainyness.

You also get a free pair of AIAIA earphones bundled with the Pixel & Google Home Mini.

    • Is this via google or jb hifi? I can't see it on either sites.

      • Sorry, I meant to reply to someone's comment, not post my own.

        It's via JB's bundle.

        • Is there someone on the site that says this? I'm looking at their individual pages and I can only see the google mini chalk version bundled.

        • +1

          @charzy:

It's not included in the description online, but I can confirm that all stores offer them as part of the Pixel bundles.

        • @Lorindor:
Awesome. might pop into my local JB at lunch

        • @Lorindor:

Can confirm I got these too. If only I waited another week to purchase!

It seems incredible to me that phones can cost up to $1500 nowadays! Would these phones be heaps better than say those Xiaomi large phones with 6GB ram? I'm no expert but those are about $3-400 from memory?

    • +1

6GB RAM in a smartphone is just overkill, some may call it future-proofing but I don't see it becoming the norm for at least another few years.

At the end of the day you get what you pay for, Xiaomi's devices are great bang for buck if you're willing to forgo features like band 28, NFC etc.

      • +1

Going from Pixel XL 128gb to Note 8, I can tell you unequivocally that 6gb should be the standard for android flagship phones. The Pixel has to constantly reload apps giving the feel that the phone is slow.

  • This or Iphone X?

    • +2

Do you prefer apples or oranges?

    • It really depends on what you want. To make it simply, do you want an iPhone or an iPhone running Android? If you want iPhone, you better go with X, it has less Quality Control issues (read up on Pixel 2 XL issues), however from what i experiences in Optus shop and from friend's X, I find the full gestures control is really annoying sometimes. You should go to Optus or JB and play around with it first to see how you like. I also dislike face unlock, but people say they got used to it over the time. If you want iPhone with Android, you need to consider you want less QC issues or small bazzels. Pixel 2 has large bazzels, but it has a lot less QC issues. Pixel 2 XL has small bazzels but it has a lot more QC issues. Australia warranty will protect you from QC issues mostly, but for the price of 1400, I expect a phone with minimum QC issues.

      • @yangall i think you meant bezels, searching bazzels got me inappropriate results lol

        • +1

No wonder it gave me that spelling error underline, sorry haha, noted

  • Does anyone know if this will be available at Harvey Norman anytime? I want to get the Pixel 2 but was hoping to use my Amex credit at HN

    • Didn't think HN stocked pixels.

    • JB and Telstra are the exclusive retailers.

  • +1

Has anyone actually purchased a Pixel, and genuinely am happy?

    • +1

Wife has the 128 Pixel (non XL). Very happy with the camera and stock android feel.

    • I pre-ordered the Pixel 2 from JB and got it on release day. I am extremely happy with my purchase. The phone is marvellous, and the customer service experience at JB was splendid. I would recommend them both.

    • Yes pixel 1 owner here from a Nexus 5.
Happy with stock android, camera, gauraenteed updates and unlimited photo uploads.
