Google Home Mini ($55) and Daydream View ($119) Discounted on Australian Google Store

600

Google has discounted both the Google Home Mini and Google Daydream View gen 2 headset.

Google Home Mini is $55 ($24 off their $79 RRP), while Daydream View gen 2 is $119 ($30 off the normal $149 RRP). The Google Home Mini is still $2 more than it is at Good Guys, Officeworks, Harvey Norman and JB HIif who are all selling it for $53 currently, but you can purchase the exclusive Coral (red) coloured Google Home Mini that only sells on the Google Store.

Daydream View is on-sale from now until the 9th of December, while the discount on the Google Home Mini runs until the December 31, 2018 at 11:59pm PT according to the Terms and Conditions - but we're (Ausdroid) pretty sure that must be a typo (and we've asked Google), so it will possibly change shortly.

We are still getting ripped off by google considering they sell it for $29 in the US. >:-/

      • +1

eh yes kinda $30USD + tax is like $45

    • +2

It's actually worth $30, judging by the recent Woolworths deal.

    Worth mentioning Free Delivery.

I forget who they use for shipping, but they use couriers so it should be fast.

    • Pretty sure they use Toll.

  • Is there a difference between the mini and a old android phone connected to a decent Bluetooth speaker?

    • +1

Mini has better microphones/voice recognition, less lag, and is overall a more elegant solution

      • Unless you have a fan on

    • +4

mini does things if you yell at it.

"Ok google play the latest video from <youtube celebrity> on chromecast" &
"Ok google pause video" (and "ok google unpause video").

Thats literally the best use I have gotten from it so far (I don't play much music at all).
If anyone can add any other useful things they can do, please do so (please dont mention weather, or it can tell the time - we know).

      • +1

Control your smart home (lights etc.), alarm (ie "wake me up at 7am weekdays), timer, cooking assistant, trivia machine (gimmick), and music player - but I wouldn't recommend the mini for a big room if using it for primarily that.

Also if you buy more than one, you can do multi-room audio which is ridiculous and fun.

Also translation tool if that's your thing.

Any question you type into google and get an answer in that weird google box, can be asked to your google home, and it'll read it out.

Google Maps too! "when should I leave to get to X by Y time?" or "how far away is X by Train". Both of those will send the directions to your linked phone as well.

      • Hey google, tell me about my day

Gives you weather forecast, time it will take you to get to work, then plays the news headlines (which you preselect in the settings for which provider you want)

      • Here is the 'beta' program (equiv) for google home/mini:
        https://support.google.com/googlehome/answer/6343937?hl=en

      • Hey google set timer 1 hr - a reminder for cooking/washing machine etc

Works well as a Home Assistant speaker

      • "Hey Google where's my phone?"

For the times the phone has fallen down behind the couch / left somewhere in the house / under the dog, it will ring it for you.

    • I use it as my alarm clock haha!

"hey google, set alarm everymorning at 5am"
      "hey google, stop alarm"

Forces me out of bed haha

        "Okay Google, shut up"

        It works!

I'm waiting for Chromecast audio to go down in price. Really wished the mini had audio out.

    • I got mine for $46 from Good Guys in an eBay 20% off sale. Works well.

  • So what do you guys use it for?

    How is it for cooking?

  • +3

I love using the broadcast feature from my phone to my mini. I can scare the girlfriend when I'm at work.

    • Nice, last time I tried that it said I had to be on the same wifi network.
      Cheers!

  • Well that's a bummer, i just bought it from the google store a few days ago…

  • Assume you can't pay with Google Play cards which are 20% off at Coles at the moment?

  • If we buy US version, can we use it here?

  • Does anyone know how to set up multiple users for google home? I'm not sure if the feature is avaialble in Australia yet?
