Star Wars Battlefront 2 (XB1/PS4) - $45 @ JB Hi-Fi

38

Moderators: Please modify if this is not a deal.

Just went in to JB Hi-Fi Melbourne Central and noticed that EA's Star Wars Battlefront 2 is now down to $45. No special signs, just plain white stickers. Definitely was $79 just a few days ago. I assume this is either them matching Amazon's price ($44.95), a (dirty) scheduled reduction to coincide with the imminent release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, or… puts tin foil hat on EA's attempt to shovel all units out of the door before gambling regulators block the sale of the game.

Saw this in Sydney strand arcade store today too. Full display, nobody gave it a second look.

I bought myself a copy as I've been hankering to play the single-player campaign. Plus, I quite enjoyed the 2015 version. Should I bust it open and enjoy the Star Wars goodness, or should I return the pay-2-win, Star Wars-themed gambling simulator that it is?

    • +5

Well, if you have a sense of pride and accomplishment for unlocking different heroes then by all means keep it… If not then return it like the others have stated.

    • +8

Not worth it for single player. It about a 5-7 hour campaign. Say No to EA's tyranny

    • +5

Return and buy a used copy in a couple of months.
      DO NOT SUPPORT EA!

Haha, another Battlefront 2 Post. Oh man, here come the pitchforks…

    $39 at amazon

I don't see any bargains listed.
    Cheaper at amazon.

Don't buy this game. Let stand up to EA with our wallets.

General gaming community is a protesting against EA's money grabbing aspect, for this reason the game has dropped so much in its first month.

Not my words but a pretty good summery.

"Basically they've keyed the progression for the classes to micro-transactions and lootboxes. The system implements power-up cards for classes, more cards you have - higher level your class is. Essentially this means that game becomes pretty much pay-to-win, since the power-up cards come from the loot boxes."

Here we go again with the comments… :)

It’s not worth posting deals about SW BF II, maybe unless it’s under $25. Then it may be worth it. There’s just so much micro transactions and it’s hard to unlock stuff without hours of gameplay.

  • Geez there must be a fine line between battlefront 2 & almost all the AAA games in terms of micro transactions & loot systems.

Pretty much every sports title is filled with a gambling card system. There is not outcry from them.

Shadow of War had these shitty systems in place. There was a small outcry but it came and went.

Need for Speed just introduced micro transaction/loot system tied to progression (Get ready for that in your upcoming racers car fans)

What I'm trying to say is its great we are taking a stand on BF2. However this shit is happening everywhere. Can we be passionate and vocal about gaming in general & not just because its Star Wars.

    • Yep and im not buying NFS either despite buying every game since need for speed underground.

    • I get what you are coming from. Just my 2c here but Star Wars is what resonates to a lot of people. I do not own or plan to own the games you mentioned. Last NFS game I played was Underground

  • DAAAYUUUUM. When did this come out? It's dropping faster than expected.

Might get it when its in the bargin bin. Never was a fan of starwars but I've barely got any other games to play.

    also amazon sells it cheaper

  • $1 for me or no deal EA!

  • Dear god, what have I done!?

    • +2

Don’t worry about it! It’s a great price on a newly released game but unfortunately EA have screwed themselves over with the in game currency/micro-transactions and have made people very angry, that’s where the negs are coming from..

      • I gathered that there was a lot of negativity and anger over EA's decision on the in-game economy design based on the numerous headlines on technology and gaming websites since the game's release. Still debating on breaking the shrink wrap on the game.

DICE is still patching the game and making changes. After removing the paid microtransactions, they also reduced the amount of credits per game by a significant factor, increasing the amount of hours you have to play in order to earn unlocks. So pissed off fans became even more pissed off and they resorted to 'farming' the system.

One or two weeks ago players all started attaching rubber bands to their game controllers and joining the game, and then going AFK. By pulling the joysticks in opposite directions they have their characters spinning on the spot in the server, but they actually won't get kicked so long as the player remains in motion.

At the end of the match they get credits for 'participating' in the game even though the player did not actually play the game or contribute anything to the fight. This infuriated a lot of players who are trying to enjoy the game but can't because their squadmates are essentially idle and sitting ducks.

As of yesterday DICE has tried to remedy the issue by increasing credit gain rate and you can earn daily loot boxes just by logging in now.

As to whether you should support EA and not return the game, well, that's your choice.

Dropping some more guys… $39 at Target. Pretty sure it was $49 earlier this week. This game must be (and hopefully) doing very poorly.
