Not quite the lowest ever. In fact not quite anywhere near the lowest ever: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/339761

    …nevertheless a good price!

    • +12

Only 4 stores had them and was pick-up only so doesn't really count imo.

        • +10

It 100% doesn't count. So much so, it didn't even meet OzBargain's guide for posting a deal.

        • -6

@BradH13: That’s why the mods left it on is it? Like I said.

        • @BradH13:

It's a good speaker, at a great price.
And damn Officeworks wouldn't honour their price-match policy when I walked in.

        • @Kangal: Not sure why you tagged me in this. Haha. I have two sets in my house. Great for the TV if your TV has variable audio out like mine (so you can still use remote). Not so great with music if you value accuracy, but alas; $90.

        • @Kangal: that's cos they price beat lol.

        • @BradH13: How does the multiple audio work? can you play two audio sources at the same time, or is there a button to switch it between

        • +1

@Philthy Phill: Both the 3.5mm jack and the RCA jacks are active at the same time.

        • @BradH13:

          I don't know either, Hahaha.
I think I was replying to someone else about that EB deal some weeks back.

Only $201.95 on Amazon AU ;)

They must be sourcing from hardly normal

  • I've got a super old logitech z5500 which absolutely booms (bass wise). Last week, it stopped working

Would the z623 deliver much less bass?

    • Can't directly compare your old z5500, but I have this set, and it has a bass control pot.

I have it set at about 50% and it sounds fairly well balanced to me.

    • Equivalent would be z906

    • +1

Well, as the other poster said - the Z906 is the modern equivalent, but both are pretty much on par for bass.

If you need surround go for the Z906, if you don't these are a great option for the price.

    • +1

My z5500 did the exact same thing last week!

      • Shit i have an even older paid of Z5500……pray for me!

        • +1

Have a set of Z5500 from over 10 years ago; Still going strong! ;D

        • +1

          @DreadEmperor:

Same, been in use 8 hours a day for over 10 years.

      • Well, I'm only using the woofer / controller module from the z5500. I'm using 2 random creative satellite speakers for the rest of the sound.

Worked for years, then yesterday one satellite speaker is extremely soft, and the other just bursts out static.

        Any ideas?

        • +1

Sounds like loose wires shorting on the speakers (including the connecting wires).

    • I have both, the 5500 is louder and has more bass, but the bass on the 623 is much tighter and not as boomy.

    • Tried replacing the fuse in the Sub?

      • This. I have had to replace mine many times over the years. My unit especially doesn't like being moved or nudged when power is connected (ie when vacuuming floors).

        • What was the issue that caused you to replace the fuse?

        • @ycon: The fuse can just randomly blow. The system wont power on and looks to be dead until you replace it.

        • @narz: hmm probably not that- the system runs fine, it's just the satellite speakers which are suddenly almost all static and super faint… I tried all outputs, inputs and a new aux

  • +1

    Does it have Bluetooth?

    • +1

No, but it would probably work with that one that comes up on here for a few dollars.

      • +1

Horrible sound quality though, so I would only recommend that adapter if you are deaf.

        • They're not horrible, especially for the price.

        • Never used one so dunno how sound quality is.

        • Would recommend a Chromecast Audio for slightly better sound quality

    • +1

I've got a Logitech and TP-Link adapter for my 2x Z333 and they both work flawlessly with our Android smartphones. Sound quality is great playing Extreme quality Spotify.
From memory the RRP was $30 and $35, though I'm sure you can get them for a lot less.

Logitech Bluetooth adapter also on sale at JB:

I've been using a Z63 for over a year and a half, and can vouch for the awesome sound quality and power for a 2.1.

  • I googled reviews for it and my first hit was from 2010. I'm a bit of technological slowpoke, are Logitech products refreshed annually or is this the 2010 model still?

    • yes its the same one, in my experience the older logitechs sound better than the modern stuff

    • They haven't replaced the model. It's still the current. Speakers don't really go obsolete. Haha. My unit FROM 2010 still works as it did the day I bought it.

  • +2

I wonder why they don't sell the Z625 in Australia? That one has optical input.

  • Best bang-for-buck 2.1 speakers on the market. Always the first thing I recommend to friends/family.

    • we have 2 in our household …. one in my study and my son has one. it’s one of the nicer 2.1systems as the speakers are nice and large so better midrange and sound more special.

not many options in 2.1 for $100 that have decent size drivers.

  • +2

Can this be plugged into a TV? Sorry for the noob question

    • yes, it’s a powered speaker set up so has built in amp in the sub woofer, and it’s stereo like most TVs.
sound much better than a sound bar though not as inconspicuous.

      • +2

Not necessarily, it depends on your TV. A lot of old TVs don't have audio output, and many newer TVs only have digital audio output which these speakers do not support.

FWIW, this would not work with any of the TVs in my house.

        • +4

Pretty sure you can just plug it into the headphone jack… Unless your tv also doesn't have a headphone jack.

        • @s4sep:

You can, that's how I have mine hooked up.

And you can use the TV remote to control volume

        • @s4sep: Surprisingly, headphone jack doesn't seem like a standard on TV's anymore…

        • @s4sep: This is precisely what I've done as well, and it works great.

  • Anyone have a Wicked Wednesday 5% coupon code they won't use? Please pm me. Want to buy these speakers.

    • +2

      Please check PM

      • Thanks for the code Twister. This will make a nice Xmas present.

  • I got these for $94 and I love them!

  • Excellent speaker system. I use one set up on PC and the other as my TV sound system. Incredibly well balanced sound and deep bass! For this price, a bargain!

  • Hi, need your help fellow Ozbargainers. Does anyone have a Wicked Wednesday 5% coupon code they won't use? Please pm me. Want to buy these speakers.

  • I got these for $90.00 from Dicky Smith a few years back. Not bad for the price. I wasn't 100% happy to gave them to the gf and got some Klipsch ProMedias for myself.

  • +1

I don't need these but still want to buy them….

I know good speakers can last a lifetime, but I just noticed these have been around since 2010. Are they still making these or are we buying 8 year old stock?

    • Still making them. All that's changed over the 7 years is they've replaced the logo with their new one on newer units. Haha.

  • Damn just got Logitech Z337 at BigW for $40 https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/345185
    Must not rationalise… a second set…

    • +1

Same here dammit! ……..though it is nice to have bluetooth built in

      • Agreed. I was surprised to see this doesn't. Ah well $50 saved

  • How would these compare to your average soundbar for a lounge TV? I don't need the full cinema experience, just looking at an improvement over the crappy inbuilt TV speakers.

    • +1

This would be a massive improvement over the inbuilt TV speakers (think about it - this unit is THX certified).

It will also outperform the "average soundbar" on pretty much every scenario conceivable. Especially at this price, I'm not aware of a soundbar that could come close to matching the output quality. It's a bargain at this price, mate.

      • +1

Thanks for the feedback. After reading up, what kind of kills it for me is the fact it has no optical input, and my TV has no 3.5mm output. So without something like a receiver, I can't directly connect this to my TV.

        • +1

It has RCA/3.5, so you could get an optical to RCA adapter or optical to 3.5.

        • @Scab: Thanks for the reply. Adapting from electrical to optical actually isn't cheap enough to make this a deal for me. Unfortunate, because this is a great price.

      • think about it - this unit is THX certified

You don't know what that is do you.

        • It's all about the decibels!

        • Have you anything productive to add here other than posting a condescending, useless one-liner? I suppose not, but I'll answer your question.

I do know what THX certification is. I also own an Altec Lansing MX5021 (no longer in production), which as well is THX certified and will blow anything else on its price point out of water.

    • +1

Much better sound than a soundbar, especially for the price.

Only drawback for me is that they obviously won't turn off power with the TV, I don't like leaving them on all the time so I use a radio-controlled remote mains switch.

It's a bit of a pain as I have to turn them on and off as well as the TV, but apart from that they're great.

  • -1

anyone can PM me a 5% code? <3

  • Would this be a good option for the recent Bauhn 55" 4K TV? I read here the inbuilt speakers were crap but golly gosh was that an understatement

  • +2

Ordered. My bank balance is taking a pounding these past few weeks :(

  • +2

Just got from OW price matched for $84.50
    Nice sound.

  • I just got one. Can anyone please tell me which is the best way to connect it with the PS4? Should I use an optical converter or I can connect it with the TV and use the HDMI output from the TV itself? Will the sound be different? Many thanks :)

  • +1

I'll share my experience with these speakers. I got them from a Bing Lee deal for around this price delivered, approx 2 years ago.

Sound is great and lots of bass for the size. Was very impressed initially.

After only a little while I noticed a lot of crackling when turning the unit on/off. Also when changing the volume. Then, over time the on/off button stopped working. I'd need to press it multiple times to get the unit on, until it just ceased working completely one day.

Apparently this is a widespread issue, due to a poorly designed contact point behind the switch. It clogs up with dust. If you google search the issue with this model you will see plenty of people with the same problem.

You can fix it temporarily by blowing behind the buttons/dials or taking it apart and blasting it with air when it gets bad. I was so frustrated I eventually rewired the power to a new switch. Now something else has gone in the unit, causing a constant buzzing noise. So these are going in the trash after 2 years.

    • That sucks, but I've been using mine for 2 years and have never turned it off. I'm I the only one that never turn off my speakers?

      • I was going to respond with the SAME content. So no, it's not just you who never turns it off. :-)

It's plugged in every day, all day, and I will turn off power to it from the power outlet board when I need to (like I'm going out for the weekend or such).

    • One of my sets is 7 years old now, and I haven't had any crackling, or buttons stop working, although I never turn them off. They're powered on 24/7 for that whole 7 years.

The other is 3 years old without issue.

I honestly don't think they're worth turning off, causing the switch to stress. The power use would be minimal without signal being fed through them.

    • I've had the exact same issue. I bought mine close to when these were released many many years ago. I took it apart and fixed it… But I forgot what I did. Fixed it years ago. But it still works now. I snapped the logo off when i did it though. It was quite annoying.

Logitech wouldn't help me because I was just passed warranty at the time.

Anyway, because of that experience and how wide spread the issue is (seen online) i personally wouldn't buy another one of these. Maybe at under $40, i would. Maybe. I would rather save the money and get a z906.

Hopefully these newly manufactured ones have fixed this problem.

Just bought 2 plus 2 Logitech Bluetooth Adapters all with a 5% off Wicked Wednesday code. :)

  • People rave about these speakers. I bought a set at $100. I was disappointed.

Overall my older 5.1 X-530, X-540 sets are louder for mids and highs, though the 623 has got bass. It also buzzes more than the 5.1s.

Can't fault the price. But wouldn't buy them again.

  • Does anyone have a spare Wicked Wednesday 5% code I could use?

  • Got one with a n extra Bluetooth adapter from JB for metalcore/pop punk music.
    Z623 has:
-thunderous bass (for bass drum, but bass guitar is a little drowned out)
    -prominent treble (for vocals)
    -quieter mid (for electric guitar).

  • Got one with a separate Bluetooth adapter from JB for metalcore/pop punk music.
    Z623 has:
-thunderous bass (for bass drum, but bass guitar is a little drowned out)
    -prominent treble (for vocals)
    -quieter mid (for electric guitar).
