Pre-Paid Mobile Deal Options

Seeing as Telstra have removed ability to spend credit in the play store from all pre-paid offers, what would be a good option now?

I live in the Riverina, NSW, if that helps when it comes to checking network coverage. I'm not sure where to go to check this myself, so maybe redirecting me there would also help.

The Kogan pre-paid offers seem great, are they reputable when it comes to mobile?

Thanks in advance.

  • Aldi?

Use most of the Telstra network, and deals are around

    • Oh I didn't know that, that's awesome. The Kogan deal for $254/12 months unlimited calls and text and 11gb every 30 days is so good. Just don't know about vodaphone so I'm a bit unsure.

Aldi deal at the moment is https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/342181

If you use little then a $5 SIM and 20GB/365 for $95.

Im on my 2nd year with kogan & haven't had any problems.

You could get do a 30 day plan to make sure the coverage is suitable then buy a 365 day recharge on the last day of the promo (Dec 31).

      • My fave is also the Kogan $5 (30d). Have had one $5 Aldi sitting on the shelf for ages w/ no set use before date, LOW value but on the upshot not likely to unilaterally cancelled by some unscrupulous telco beforehand. Yep, [$21.166]/11gb reocurring when certain

I’ll be going amaysim $10 for 28 days unlimited calls text and 1gb data

Though Woolworths mobile isn’t bad if you want telstra wholesale.

    • I'm also going to switch to amaysim. Picked up a starter kit tonight for $2 from Coles. See https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/346582

If the Optus network sucks, I'll just port to a mvo that uses the Telstra network after my month with amaysim

it is essential you test each network for coverage before a large commitment.
grab a kogan/vodafone/lebara sim for cheap and check reception for a month - if you get good vodafone coverage then there are annual deals to be had as you suggest.
try a cheap optus/amaysim sim for optus coverage.
compare to what you are familiar with telstra's coverage and go from there.
note that telstra resellers (Aldi, etc) use the telstra wholesale network, which is missing a small bit of the full telstra network.
also check Lycamobile (telstra wholesale) offer on groupon (3 months, 6GB, for $30)

  • I'm favoring the Coles (optus) prepaid at the moment. $20 for 6GB data (first two months only then its 3GB) + 35 days is the big kicker for me.
