Is This Really The Location of GearBest's Office?

Was perusing the Term's & Conditions on GearBest's web site and at the very bottom of the page noticed an address, which they state is their billing address-

Company Name: ZAMBITIOUS. S.L
Address: LEFT DOOR, 2ND FLOOR, BLOCK C, SAN BENITO STREET 1, 03013 ALICANTE/ALACANT, ALICANTE, Spain

Google map-
https://www.google.com.au/maps/place/Calle+San+Benito,+1,+03…

Is this a real address 'LEFT DOOR' wtf?…..is this where the site is being run from or is it just the registered address of the company/ accountant's office?
I had assumed GearBest was a Chinese company operating out of some modern office/ warehouse setup, but maybe they are just a middle-man running a fancy website.
Also, I had wondered a little bit why the site and ticket replies have very good English.

Anyone know someone in Alicante who'd be willing to checkout the address to see if it's legit?
And any legal buffs or reps who could shed light on GearBest's "finer" details

    This just blew my mind.

Don't they have different distribution office/warehouses over Europe and USA for cheaper faster postage.
Wish they had one in Oz.

Most people really have no idea the scale of how large and widespread our favourite Chinese websites are. Gearbest are in the Nanshan district of Shenzhen in one of the many towers their parent company owns ;)

Now if you really want to see their office…. a Gkb employee filmed a tour (in Spanish)

    • What does Gkb stand for?

      • Refers to GeekBuying ;p

        • Ah of course haha lol for some reason I was thinking of geekbench lol from that recent Geekbench 4 Pro android deal :)

    • Interesting video! But what's with all the open umbrellas lying on the floor?

      • Towards the end you'll see that it's wet outside. Left open to dry.

That explains why I couldn't find them on my recent trip to Spain. I went in the right door (well incorrect door to be precise)

    street view my friend.
There is a left door, middle door and right door. Choose one.

    • ….except the "left door" referred to is on the 2nd floor….

Interesting how many companies are part of the group

Well over 50 websites. Gearbest's parent company is a subsidiary of a multibillion dollar clothing empire.

Hi, thanks for the link- didn't thing of doing that myself!
There was more than 170 companies linked to that address (ran out of Google search pages; I wonder if this is some sort of intermediary that funnels funds to offshore tax havens.
Seems very odd that so many companies are using the address of a shabby back street in Spain

See reply above from clear, they're all subsidiaries

that explains why the reviews for all their products are "muy bueno"

  • I thought GearBest owned a skyscraper near the Zapals Tower in the Beijing CBD.

  • I'm still always blown away by Google Maps. Imagine 20 years ago telling someone you could view a street anywhere in the world.

    • Especially if you want to see how it was 9 years ago, as many of the Australian street views show. Even that one in Alicante is two and a half years old. At least now you can send in your own street view photo. I'm amazed how quickly things change.

  • Yes, its all about the website and back end these days. You can run an empire from your garage and a mobile phone!

Here is the google street view https://goo.gl/DC73Zo

  • I'm actually in Alicante right now. It's a 27 minute walk I can check it out for you if you really want

        That is truly terrible haha

    • Hey Doc, if you can spare the time I would definitely be interested to see what's up there on floor no. 2.
From Google maps when you look up at the 2nd floor windows, they look like crappy apartments and not even offices.

I'm check out our tomorrow, it's a holiday today, although it's Saturday it might be open

  • A lot of corporations have weird "main office" locations. Usually for tax reasons and also because they simply don't want unwelcome people and their mailbombs interacting with their real headquarters.
The main corporate office can be a single secretary in a leased cubicle, the board and subsidiary executives will never go there.

Merged from Is This Really The GearBest Office in Alicante

So the question was asked if his was really the gearbest office. I am currently in Alicante so I went to check it out, bear in mind it was 5:30 on a Saturday afternoon when I did so it was dead but, basically it is an apartment. There was no signage the garage doors look like there were for other businesses.

I took a photo of both doors (yes including the left one), who knows what is going on. It could be used a tax haven thing but I thought there are better countries out there for tax dodging…

Perhaps it's home to their spanish site, igogo.es?

    • Thanks for putting in the hard yards and taking/ uploading the photo's drmarhall, it's much appreciated.
I definitely think this address needs more research and investigation.

  • happy to help, I'm heading off to mexico but will be back in 3 months, if you want to know more let me know and i can sus it out.
I'll put on a deerstalker hat and smoke from a pipe (I'll as my partner if she's alright for me to call her watson)

  • OP, looks like you were looking at the UK site as it doesn't appear on the normal site. Here are the details of Zambitious:

    https://www.infoempresa.com/en-in/es/company/zambitious-sl

Looks from the name of the director that it's just a registration address, maybe to have a presence in the EU for various legal reasons.

    • BTW left (Spanish abb. izq) and right (Spanish abb. drcha) are common suffixes in some European buildings where two flats have the same floor and are distinguished by direction. Here we would give them unique numbers.

      • Thanks GP for explaining the izq and drcha abbreviations and that it's the usual way to distinguish flats in Europe….the address doesn't sound as crazy now!
It would still be fascinating to find out if the apartment is actually occupied and if so, why are so many companies registered there and are they paying the apartment owner/ landlord to use the address.

        • Probably a real person but a proxy director to let companies have an EU presence. Wonder if he lives in fear of being questioned if one of the companies he "directs" goes belly up.
