[PlayStation Plus] [PS4] [VR] Dirt Rally + VR Bundle for $26.48 @ AU PSN Store (PlayStation Plus Subscription Required)

350

This has been on my watch list since the deals on PS VR started coming up. A truly amazing deal for those who are brave (Racing in VR can be unpleasant for some) enough to cope with driving a rally car in VR mode.

This requires PS Plus membership for purchase and download size is around 45GB.

If you are not after the VR bundle then the Dirt Rally stand alone is available for $21.23 (exclusive to PS Plus subscribers)

Description for VR bundle:
If you’re a PlayStation®Plus member, you can download this item for the reduced price displayed and it’s yours to keep forever. Not a member yet? Subscribe to PlayStation®Plus for loads of PlayStation® extras!

DiRT Rally is the most authentic and thrilling rally game ever made, road-tested over 80 million miles by the DiRT community. It perfectly captures that white knuckle feeling of racing on the edge as you hurtle along dangerous roads at breakneck speed, knowing that one crash could irreparably harm your stage time.
Every stage tests you differently, as you race on the edge of control across snow, ice, tarmac and dirt and tackle a variety of weather types. As the car suffers attrition and stages string together, your dedicated rally team tries to keep you competitive and each rally becomes a marathon-like test of concentration and skill.
DiRT Rally also includes officially licensed World Rallycross content, allowing you to experience the breathless, high-speed thrills of some of the world’s fastest off-road cars as you trade paint with other drivers at some of the series’ best-loved circuits, in both singleplayer and high-intensity multiplayer races.

EDIT: I have looked up on some reviews and it seems it has some anti nausea controls and handles crashes better than Drive Club

  • Is this the full Dirt Rally game?
for example, GT Sport is only VR in a shitty time trial mode (no career / multiplayer)

    • +1

I think its is also heard in a youtube review that the full game can be played in VR.

    • The PC VR one is the full game, not sure about this but I'd assume so.

    • Yep full game can be played in VR

  • +1

I got this recently on pc through the humble deal posted. Oh my God is it hard. This is like the dark souls of racing games. I haven't played it since my first attempt. I really need to find the time for a few hours to sit down and really understand it!

    • I found the game quite hard on ps4 haven't played it for months.

    • This would have been an instant buy for me if it wasn’t the dark souls of racing games like you say. Sadly I don’t have enough hours in the day to practice the same run over and over.

    • Yeah it gives you a new-found respect for rally drivers. I'm not particularly great at it, but my tip for anyone starting would be to choose the Opel Kadett (1970's class) to practice in. It's slow enough, but isn't a dog to drive like the front wheel drive cars of the 1960's.

    • It requires very high levels of concentration and obviously a wheel and pedals is the way to play it.

I haven't finished it yet … supposedly it's easier in vr thanks to depth perception and being able to look places other than where you're aiming the car such as corner apex.

I'll check it out. Keen on cheap VR content. Will watch some reviews

On a side note if anyone hasn't tried it yet you need to get Rec Room. Super fun and free!

    • +2

Yes, everyone get onto rec room. Probably the most fun multiplayer VR game. I play with the htc vive and it's great to have psvr join the family

      • I was fooling around in the main rec room for about 1hr last night with a bunch of peps. Also tried charades last night, many laughs had until wife told me to shut up at 11pm as I was yelling answers at the TV:p

        • Yeah me too. Had to keep it down (Wife and kids sleeping) but that main Rec room was hilarious.
My brother and I also tried the dungeon room mode which was really cool.

    • I loved VR worlds (came with the bundle) even though it was just a taster. Also Alumette is a pretty good VR film and of course its free too.

  • I must be getting old, I don't even know what a PlayStation Plus is.

    • +1

It's a subscription service you need in order to play online. And it gives you discounts on the PSN store. And you get free games every month.

    • +2

It's the playstation subscription, like xbox live. You can spot deals on subscriptions every now and then. I don't play much online but I still think it's worth it if you get it at a decent price. I recently got it for $40 for 12 months, and every month you get a few free games. Sometimes really good games too, sometimes not that great. It gives you access to extra special deals as well, kind of like what OP posted, but better usually.

      • Ok cheers…… That makes more sense then …. I thought it was a seperate piece of hardware!

  • Appears to be VR for the whole game as per here: http://www.psnation.com/2017/02/24/review-dirt-rally-playsta…

  • Is anyone else getting a never ending loop of Enter card number —> get security code —> verify cvc number —> get security code etc?

I've tried 2 different credit cards.

    • Might just have to try another browser, or directly use the PS4. I find the website and login system to be a bit flakey sometimes.

      • Yeah will try that… Bloody annoying though.

Looks like they haven't charged me at least.

  • In VR it's not the best looking thing but man it is fun. It's just good looking enough that you'll find yourself falling off cliffs 'cause you're too busy taking in the view. Also, it's really tough.

  • Nice find OP; I wonder whether it is one of the 12 daily Christmas deals they've lined up and they just advertise one each day. That said, neither TLOU, U4 or H:ZD are discounted, and at least one of them would surely be a daily-deal.

Thanks OP, I was a bit hesitant but thought it was too much of a bargain to pass up and having played 2 stages in career this morning I have to say this game is pretty awesome. I am really loving driving games in VR… much more easy to judge the road and up until this point I've never liked playing racing games in the in-car view but VR is definitely changing my stance on that. I was hoping I had spent up for Christmas but a G29 driving wheel is now starting to feel quite tempting…
